    Abstract: The invention relates to a helmet with retractable visors for fast day/night reconfiguration. For that, the helmet (1) is designed at the articulations of the visors to allow the use of articulations that can be disassembled without tools. The day visor (15) is thus made modular and removable and is mounted on the helmet by a translational movement in a direction (F) allowing the upper part (16) to engage in a saggital guide rail of the helmet and allowing rotation axes of the helmet to engage in the articulation part of the lateral arms (8) of the visor, locking being effected by hand using a pivoting lever (8). For night missions, the day visor is removed and replaced with a night module mounted on the helmet using the same type of articulation. The invention applies in particular to helmets for aircraft pilots, allowing unprepared ejection.

    Abstract: In a protective helmet comprising a rigid shell having a lower periphery and a suspension system, which may have two crossed straps mounted within the rigid shell, at spaced intervals around a lower periphery of the rigid shell, an array of inflatable pads is carried by the suspension system, within the rigid shell, above the lower periphery. The inflatable pads are joined by and between two fabric sheets. If the suspension system has two crossed straps, as preferred, some of the inflatable pads are disposed directly below the crossed straps, between a central region of the rigid shell and the lower periphery, while another of the inflatable pads is disposed in the central region. The crossed straps may extend through slits in the fabric sheets. The respective pads are inflated with a suitable gas, such as air, with a suitable liquid, such as water, with a suitable foam, or with a suitable gel.

    Abstract: A helmet restraint and head and neck support system is provided for a driver of a racecar which restrains the forward, downward and lateral movement of the driver's head when subjected to large deceleration or other impact forces. The system includes a helmet for receiving the driver's head and a racing suit adapted to be worn by the body of the driver having left, right and rear straps for easily connecting and disconnecting the helmet to the racing suit. The rear strap is anatomically positioned in parallel with the driver's spine, and includes straps encircling both the arms and the legs of the driver. The protective helmet restraint and head and neck support system restrains the movement of a helmeted driver upon impact, stabilizes the posture of the head and neck of the operator during high speed maneuvers, and yet is simple and economical to fabricate and use.

The helmet restraint device reduces potentially injurious forces to the occupant's head and neck during high-deceleration of the vehicle, particularly a frontal collision. The helmet restraint device includes a high strength, lightweight rod disposed behind and below the occupant's neck, just beneath the shoulder harness, and a strap that attaches between the occupant's helmet and the rod. The strap is connected to the helmet via attachments in the helmet and a cable assembly so as to allow the occupant's head to move freely from side to side.

    Abstract: A mechanism includes two units for securing a transparent eye protector to a helmet having a recess at either side. Each unit comprises a bracket formed at one end of a frame of the eye protector. The bracket includes, at a free end thereof, an inner raised, round surface, radial first ridges on the raised, round surface, an outer recessed, round surface, and a central hole through the round surfaces. Separate snapping members include two lower, resilient latched pieces inserted into each recess for releasably securing to the helmet, radial second ridges at an upper, outer surface, and a central hole through the upper, outer surface. Bolts are driven through the central holes for fastening the snapping members and the brackets together. Pivoting of the ridges of the bracket about the ridges of the snapping member is done by pulling the eye protector up or down about the helmet.

The liner has a rear segment connected to a cap segment, with cut-out slots which allow the liner to apply pressure to the wearer's neck. A chin strap is slidable on two stiff side straps which have curved segments allowing the chin strap to move with the user's jaw. A protective face guard assembly 34 engages with the liner and has openings covered by resilient sheets which permit a marksman feel a rifle stock through the face guard.

Thus, reducing the amount of expensive fibers normally used. The invented fabric is manufacturede in a method in which the placement of the fabric in preselected locations is computer controlled.

The inner cushion and outer shell are peripherally shaped with concave outer edges between locations where straps are attached to the inner cushion and outer shell. Because of the novel peripheral shapes and the protruding swirls the outer shell can be made exceptionally light and strong with little impairment of hearing.
