Abstract: A process for the preparation of non-conductors prior to electroless metal plating with a catalyst composition. The catalyst formulation comprises the product resulting from the admixture of an acid, a nucleophillic reactant, stannous ions, a hydrolyzable stannic compound, and precious metal ions. The stannous ions are in a molar excess relative to either the stannic compound or the precious metal ions.
Abstract: There is disclosed a method of fabricating an optical waveguiding surface layer in an optically transparent crystalline substrate, such as lithium niobate, by selectively indiffusing metal ions, such as titanium, into the crystal to effect an increase in the index of refraction of a surface portion thereof. The indiffused metal ions serve to raise both the ordinary and extraordinary refractive indices of the substrate by amounts which are of the order of one percent at the diffusion surface and which gradually decrease by one-half at depths of the order of one micrometer below the surface. By properly adjusting the relevant diffusion parameters in the method, the important surface waveguide characteristics can be independently controlled.

Abstract: In a method of manufacturing a color picture tube of the type comprising the steps of coating phosphors of three primary colors on the inner surface of the face plate of the color picture tube to form dots or stripes of the phosphors, applying an acrylic resin emulsion on the dots or stripes of the phosphors to form an acrylic resin film, vapor depositing metal onto the film to form a metallic reflecting film, subjecting the acrylic resin film to a pyrolysis for decomposing it into gases, and removing the gases, the acrylic resin emulsion comprises a plurality of emulsions respectively containing conventional acrylic resin and normal butyl methacrylate resin. The normal butyl methacrylate resin is mixed with the conventional acrylic resin at a ratio of 5 to 40% by weight.
Abstract: Blocked polyisocyanates with improved water-dispersible or water-soluble properties are prepared by reacting polyisocyanates, in which 50 to 99.8% of the isocyanate groups are blocked, optionally in a solvent-free environment with an organic polyaminosulphonate or an organic polyaminosulphonic acid in sufficient quantities to provide an end product containing from 0.1 to 10%, by weight, of sulphonate groups (SO.sub.3.sup.-). The blocked polyisocyanates have particular utility when used in combination with hydrophobic polyhydroxyl compounds as binders in aqueous coating compounds.

Abstract: A heat-sensitive recording sheet comprising a support and a recording layer containing an electron donating colorless dye and a compound represented by the following formula: ##STR1## wherein R represents an alkyl group containing 2 to 12 carbon atoms.
Abstract: Lead-coated alumina fibers which are obtained by reduction of lead oxide in a glass coating on alumina fibers are particularly useful for making strong lead matrix composites.
Abstract: An improved, water based, undercoating composition, primarily designed for undercoating of vehicles to prevent corrosion. It is a butadiene-styrene based polymer latex composition which contains from about 5% to about 20% by weight of mica as a filler and flattener which provides an effective moisture barrier and also functions to prevent premature gelling of the composition in combination with a sufficient amount of ammonium hydroxide to provide a composition pH within the range of 7.5 to 10.0 and, in addition, to provide enhancement of anti-foaming properties of the composition. The balance comprises small but effective amounts of minors such as a wetting agent, a defoaming agent, a dispersing agent, pigment, viscosity modifiers, and water. Also, disclosed is a solvent based, stryene butadiene coating.
Abstract: Disclosed is a release sheet having on at least one of its outer surfaces a dried and cured coating composition comprising a release agent, a cross-linkable thermoplastic resin, and a water dispersible organic compound containing polyoxyethylene, polyoxypropylene, or a block copolymer of polyoxyethylene and polyoxypropylene.
Abstract: An amorphous electrochromic film prepared by vacuum evaporation under relatively high pressure of 2.times.10.sup.-4 -2.times.10.sup.-3 torr. The evaporated film is porous with packing density less than 0.65 and exhibits excellent reversibility after heat treatment at 250.degree. C.-350.degree. C. whereby it is optimum for an electrochromic device sealed with a sealant of tetrafluoroethylene-ethylene copolymer having no reactivity with electrolyte, low moisture permeability, excellent chemical properties and good adhesiveness.
