  • Patent number: 4198802
Abstract: In a rotary separator, cylindrical threshing, frusto-conical separating, and centrifugal fan sections are arranged coaxially and in tandem. A fixed grate including threshing and separating portions surrounds and generally conforms to a rotor profile. A frusto-conical collector housing encloses the forward part of the separator and feeds threshed and separated grain to a grain cleaning unit, the screen elements of which, along with the collector housing, rotate concentricaly with the grate while at the same time reciprocating axially. A stationary cylindrical housing surrounds the cleaner unit and clean grain and tailings pass centrifugally from the cleaner screens to separate annular channels, to be swept around the inside of the housing by paddles moving with the cleaner elements to tangential discharge points near the top of the separator for transfer to clean grain and tailings return augers respectively.

  • Patent number: 4198804
Abstract: This invention relates to a round baler for windrowed fibrous agricultural materials in which the bales are formed by a two-part frame having a generally cylindrical baling zone therein defined by side wall members on the frame and roller members extending between the side wall members and distributed around the frame. The frame includes a conventional pickup and conveying apparatus to move the agricultural materials from the ground into the entrance of the cylindrical baling zone. A suitable drive means, adapted to be coupled to a power takeoff of a draft vehicle or mounted on the baler, rotates the roller members to form a bale of the agricultural materials which are fed to the baling zone by the pickup. The frame parts are separated through hydraulic actuators to open the baling zone and deposit the round bale therefrom.

  • Patent number: 4197916
Abstract: An improved root crop harvester having a narrow and compact processing chassis adapted to simply and easily receive header assemblies of differing capacities. The header assemblies include a transverse roll conveyor for gathering roots received from the digger wheels into a stream for discharge through a central opening in the transverse conveyor to a fore-and-aft extending roll conveyor carried by the processing chassis. The fore-and-aft roll conveyor is inclined upwardly from front to rear to increase the scrubbing and tumbling action and is also provided with a reversing roll section at its rearward end to discharge the roots to the side. The fore-and-aft conveyor is also sloped across its width at its rearward end to aid in discharging roots transversely to the roll conveyor length. The conveyors on the processing chassis are carried between the support wheels to reduce side drafts, minimize wheel slippage in wet field conditions and improve transport maneuverability.

  • Patent number: 4196570
Abstract: A mechanized harvesting machine particularly suitable for picking or harvesting vegetables such as peppers and tomatoes uses a single rotating helical guide member carried on a shaft aligned longitudinally above the row of plants to thread its way through the plants with minimal disturbance. Arcuate picking elements are attached between the helical guide and the shaft for pushing and pulling the vegetables or other crops to be harvested from the plant, as the helical guide member is rotated through the row of plants. The guide member is operated parallel to the ground and turns in a single direction, leaving the plants in a relatively undisturbed condition after they have been picked so that the plants may be used to grow a subsequent crop. The harvesting machine includes conveyor belts located on opposite sides of the helical guide member for catching the vegetables after they have been picked to convey them to a convenient storage bin on the machine.
