  • Patent number: 8747415
Abstract: A device for performing fetotomy on a dead fetus or repositioning of a live fetus has a primary attachment in the form of a looped brace that is provided around a fetal limb within the birth canal of the mother animal and engages the armpit or groin of the fetus. An extension bar connects the brace to a tensioning device. A secondary attachment such as a cable or chain is attached at the foot of the fetal limb and connected to the tensioning device. The tensioning device is operated to provide tension between the brace and the secondary attachment, thereby placing the fetal limb in traction. Sufficient traction causes removal of the entire limb without exposing sharp bone edges. Variations of the device may be used for a fetal repositioning procedure.

  • Patent number: 8702787
Abstract: An endoluminal prosthesis is provided that includes a tubular graft and an expandable annular support structure. The annular support structure is coupled to the tubular graft so that the graft and support structure, in combination, provide columnar support while maintaining prosthesis flexibility. The prosthesis has sufficient strength and durability to withstand loads applied during deployment and sufficient flexibility to permit implant in a sealing arrangement within a tortuous body lumen. An embodiment according to the invention provides a plurality of annular structures with staggered, longitudinally overlapping apices of undulating structures. One embodiment relates to tubular grafts for endoluminal placement within a body lumen, including blood vessels, and for the treatment of abdominal and other aneurysms.

  • Patent number: 8663307
Abstract: An endoluminal prosthesis is provided that includes a tubular graft and an expandable annular support structure for use in a body lumen through which body fluids flow. The annular support structure is coupled to the tubular graft where it is to be sealingly engaged with the inner wall of a body lumen so that the graft and support structure, in combination, provide an improved seal. An embodiment according to the invention provides an annular structure with longitudinally staggered apices providing multiple levels of contact with the inner body lumen wall to provide a seal at multiple levels along the length of the prosthesis. One embodiment relates to tubular grafts for endoluminal placement within blood vessels for the treatment of abdominal and other aneurysms.

  • Patent number: 8657876
Abstract: Apparatus and methodology for inserting an intraocular lens (IOL) into an eye. The apparatus includes a cartridge for holding an IOL and a handpiece with a body member for receiving the cartridge, an injector rod that is receivable by the body member, and a drive mechanism that longitudinally oscillates the injector rod in the body member when a rotational force is applied about a longitudinal axis in a single direction. In other words, a constant rotation in a single direction of the drive mechanism causes the injector rod to move distally and proximally in discrete increments, with the distal increments being larger than the proximal increments. Accordingly, the injector rod urges an IOL out of the handpiece in a two-steps-forward, one-step-back manner, thereby minimizing or eliminating the chance of the injector rod engaging with the IOL.

  • Patent number: 8647348
Abstract: A circumcision clamp for aiding the removal of the foreskin of an adult, human, male penis. A top clamp and a bottom clamp for circumcision each has: 1) a curved interior brace, placed between the foreskin and the penis shaft; and 2) a curved exterior brace, which aligns over the interior brace and compresses the foreskin against the interior brace. The curved interior brace preferably has a greater depth than the exterior brace, which greater depth forms a distal overhang or shelf for protecting the penis shaft during operation. By simultaneously employing a top clamp and a bottom clamp during circumcision, an entire band or collar of foreskin along the desired path of incision and suturing can be securely held in place and clamped, thus helping the operator or surgeon trim and suture the foreskin quickly and precisely.

  • Patent number: 8632557
Abstract: The invention provides a rotational atherectomy system, device and method having, in various embodiments, a flexible, elongated, rotatable drive shaft with at least one eccentric abrading head attached thereto, wherein the abrading head comprises at least one groove thereon. The eccentric grooved abrading comprises a tissue removing surface—typically an abrasive surface and/or at least one groove. Preferably the eccentric enlarged abrading head has a center of mass spaced radially from the rotational axis of the drive shaft, facilitating the ability of the device to open the stenotic lesion to a diameter substantially larger than the outer diameter of the enlarged abrading head when operated at high speeds. The groove(s) provide improved efficacy in the abrasion of non-calcified and/or soft tissue as well as provide a means for breaking the hydraulic wedge between the abrading head and the stenotic tissue.
