  • Patent number: 8098665
Abstract: Methods for automating membership discovery in a distributed computer network are presented. A particular method includes establishing a Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) tunnel and Targeted Label Distribution Protocol (LDP) signaling channel between a first Provider Edge (PE) device and a plurality of PE devices. A first Virtual Private LAN Service (VPLS) site is added to a Multi-Tenant Unit (MTU) device associated with the first PE device. A first LDP Label Mapping Message is sent to the first PE device from the MTU device. The first LDP Label Mapping Message is broadcast to the plurality of PE devices from the first PE device. A second LDP Label Mapping Message is sent to the MTU device from the first PE device to establish a virtual circuit label switch path between the MTU device and the first PE device. A second VPLS site is added to the MTU device without sending an associated LDP Label Mapping Message to the first PE device.

  • Patent number: 8077610
Abstract: An embodiment of the present invention reduces certain memory bandwidth requirements when sending a multicast message from a network device such as a router, bridge or switch. Separate output buffers are provided for different groups of egress ports, and incoming messages are written to some or all of the output buffers. A processing determination is made as to which egress ports will forward the message. Buffers associated with non-forwarding ports are released and the message is queued at the forwarding egress ports. When the message is forwarded, data is read from the output buffers associated with the forwarding egress ports.

  • Patent number: 8064477
Abstract: The present invention relates to a multi-channel provision system for a wired network. The multi-channel provision system of the present invention includes a tap-off unit (330) for dividing a frequency band, assigned to a wired network for network communication, and providing resultant frequency bands to respective subscriber units belonging thereto. An optical network device (100) is disposed at a node where one or more sectors, divided according to a number of subscriber units that enable network access through the wired network, branch off. The optical network device (100) provides a frequency band for network access to each sector so that a same frequency band is assigned to each sector, thus generating a multi-channel for the frequency band, and reusing the frequency band, assigned to the wired network, a number of times corresponding to the number of the sectors through generation of the multi-channel.

  • Patent number: 8064432
Abstract: A Path Generator connects to a communication network and uses genetic algorithms to assign flows to paths. Genotypes encode flow to path assignments for working and protection paths. Genotype fitness functions are computed as a weighted sum of constraint fitness functions. Each constraint fitness function evaluates the degrees to which the genotype is a satisfactory solution. The system can be used for network modeling. It can also receive requests for on-demand assignment of flows and on-demand rerouting of flows.

  • Patent number: 8064451
Abstract: A method for using network address translation in switches and routers to define a virtual host as the source of a multicast channel within a single-source multicast model and to translate packet addresses from different multicast sources so that the packets appear to be originating from the virtual host. Address-translated packets are thus forwarded through a single-source multicast channel and received by the subscribing host(s)/clients as though the packets came from a single “virtual” source. This methodology can be used to map two or more sources simultaneously onto the same multicast channel. Such a mapping is useful, for example, to present multiple views of a sporting event video broadcast, provide advertisement insertion capability, or to support transparent fail-over to a backup video source in a critical multicast application. Subscribing client hosts in the multicast reception group simply subscribe to the single virtual host as the source of a multicast channel.

  • Patent number: 8059638
Abstract: A method and apparatus for link aggregation in a data communications network. A dual-layer link aggregation is formed, including two peer nodes, each connected to at least a third node. The dual-layer link aggregation is formed of a peer link aggregation of ports for communicating with a peer node, distant link aggregation of ports for communicating with a third node, and an outer-layer link aggregation of the ports included in the peer link aggregation and the distant link aggregation. The third node may implement an inter-node link aggregation aggregating links to each of the peer nodes. Packets may be received and forwarded by the peer nodes in such a manner as to each link aggregation to be active simultaneously.

  • Patent number: 8054750
Abstract: Particular embodiments provide a virtual responder that can be contacted by any number of senders. When a sender wants to perform a measurement test with a real responder, the sender sends a control message to a virtual responder. The virtual responder is configured to determine a real responder based on real responder selection metrics. The virtual responder may poll the real responders at certain times to receive the real responder selection metrics. The virtual responder then selects a real responder from a plurality of real responders based on the real responder's selection metrics. The virtual responder then sends contact information for the selected real responder to the sender device. This allows the sender device to contact the selected real responder to perform the measurement test with a real responder.

  • Patent number: 8054797
Abstract: A technique for improving the efficiency of downloading transmission data is disclosed. An information downloading apparatus downloads differing sets of information to predetermined groups to which a mobile terminal may belong. This apparatus includes a channel selecting unit for selecting from plural information channels an information channel for transmitting transmission data and a transmitting unit for transmitting transmission data using the selected information channel. The channel selecting unit selects an information channel so that sets of transmission data with differing destination addresses may be transmitted through differing information channels. The transmitting unit transmits to each group, through a control channel, information pertaining to whether a set of transmission data exists, the information channel to be used if the set of transmission data exists, and the data length of the set of transmission data. The control channel includes time slots that are associated with the groups.

  • Patent number: RE45794
Abstract: A crosstalk cancellation system and method is disclosed for use in a multi-channel communication system. Crosstalk which couples between channels is cancelled through use of an in-line FFE filter and in-line delay. A cross-connect system associated with each channel includes a cross-connect delay and cross-connect filter. The cross-connect system generates a cancellation signal for each of the channels, which is routed into a junction. The junction subtracts the cancellation signal from the received signal, which has also been delayed and filtered, to remove unwanted cross-talk. During training, cancellation magnitude is monitored at various delay offsets to determine which offset and corresponding filter coefficients, for each delay, maximizes cancellation. The filters are set with filter coefficients that maximize cancellation. The cross-connect delay with the maximum offset is set to zero and its calculated offset amount is established as the in-line delay offset.
