Abstract: A method of generating 3D information of a sample using an optical microscope includes: varying the distance between the sample and an objective lens of the optical microscope at pre-determined steps, capturing an image at each pre-determined step, determining a characteristic value of each pixel in each captured image, determining a first captured image that is focused on a first surface of the sample based on the characteristic value of each pixel in each captured image, and determining a measurement of an opening in the first surface of the sample based on the first captured image. The first surface of the sample and the second surface of the sample are within a field of view of each of the captured images. The first captured image includes a pattern overlay. In another example, the opening measurement is determined using a second captured image without a pattern overlay.

  • Patent number: 10158854
Abstract: A method for pyramid vector quantization indexing of audio/video signals comprises obtaining of an integer input vector representing the audio/video signal samples. A leading sign is extracted from the integer input vector. The leading sign is a sign of a terminal non-zero coefficient in the integer input vector. The terminal non-zero coefficient is one of a first non-zero coefficient and a last non-zero coefficient in the integer input vector. The integer input vector is indexed with a pyramid vector quantization enumeration scheme into an output index representing the audio/video signal samples. The pyramid vector quantization enumeration scheme is designed for neglecting the sign of the terminal non-zero coefficient. The output index and the leading sign are outputted. A corresponding method for de-indexing, an encoder, a decoder, and computer programs therefore are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 10156720
Abstract: An information display apparatus reflects light representing information off a projection target to display the information as a virtual image, and includes a projector, at least two image forming devices and a focus adjusting device. The projector projects the light representing information. The image forming devices, to which the light from the projector is projected, are on an optical path from the projector to the projection target. At least one of the image forming devices is at a distance from the projector different from that of other image forming devices. The focus adjusting device adjusts a focal length of one optical system on an optical path from the projector to each of the image forming devices such that the light from the projector is in focus at each of the image forming devices. An image of information on each of the image forming devices is reflected off the projection target.

  • Patent number: 10142550
Abstract: A method for controlling an imaging system comprising a variable focal length (VFL) lens having first and second operating resonant frequencies, a lens controller, and a camera is disclosed. The first frequency provides a larger optical power variation and large focus range, at the expense of aberration in the imaging system. The second frequency provides a smaller optical power variation and small focus range, but provides low aberration in the imaging system. The method comprises: providing an extended focus range demand to the lens controller and, in response, configuring the lens controller to operate the VFL lens at the first resonant frequency (e.g., to provide a large autofocus search range). The method further comprises: providing an accurate image demand signal to the lens controller and, in response, configuring the lens controller to operate the VFL lens at the second resonant frequency (e.g., to provide low aberration images).

  • Patent number: 10134120
Abstract: Dimensioning systems may automate or assist with determining the physical dimensions of an object without the need for a manual measurement. A dimensioning system may project a light pattern onto the object, capture an image of the reflected pattern, and observe changes in the imaged pattern to obtain a range image, which contains 3D information corresponding to the object. Then, using the range image, the dimensioning system may calculate the dimensions of the object. In some cases, a single range image does not contain 3D data sufficient for dimensioning the object. To mitigate or solve this problem, the present invention embraces capturing a plurality of range images from different perspectives, and then combining the range images (e.g., using image-stitching) to form a composite range-image, which can be used to determine the object's dimensions.

  • Patent number: 10129566
Abstract: Disclosed herein are innovations in decoding compressed video media data. The disclosed innovations facilitate decoding operations with improved computational efficiency, faster speeds, reduced power, reduced memory usage, and/or reduced latency. In one embodiment, for example, an encoded bitstream of video media data is input from an external video content provider, the encoded bitstream being encoded according to a video codec standard. A decoder is then configured to decode the encoded bitstream based at least in part on supplemental information that identifies a property of the encoded bitstream but that is supplemental to the encoded bitstream (e.g., supplemental information that is not part of the encoded bitstream or its associated media container and that is specific (or related) to the application for which the bitstream is used and/or the standard by which the bitstream is encoded and/or encrypted).
