  • Patent number: 8139486
Abstract: Described are a method and system for generating an asynchronous data frame. A character received from an asynchronous device is buffered. Each additional character from the asynchronous device is buffered if the additional character is received before the expiration of a predetermined interval measured from a time when a last buffered character was received. The one or more buffered characters are assembled as a data frame after the expiration of the predetermined interval if no additional character is received from the asynchronous device before the expiration of the predetermined interval. An encapsulated TCP packet that includes the data frame is generated for transmission across a TCP/IP network to a remote device.

  • Patent number: 8135003
Abstract: A scheduling algorithm is disclosed that allows mobile units, participating in an ongoing communications session, to temporary perform channel-demanding communications operations without ending the session and that is useful in the case of no free radio channels. The algorithm is based on selecting a radio channel for transmitting a radio block based on information of a previous radio channel, no which a previous radio block has been transmitted. The radio block and the previous radio block are based on common information. A mobile unit participating in the communications session selects whether to perform any channel-demanding communications operations on the selected radio channel. By limiting any such other channel-demanding operations to only the selected radio channel, the probability of loss of useful data for the mobile unit during the communications session is minimized.

  • Patent number: 8134929
Abstract: In a communication system subject to variations in channel quality, transmit power control is used to reduce the variations in received signal quality. If the channel quality degrades to such an extent that a high transmit power would be required to ensure good received signal quality, the transmit power is decreased and is not increased until the channel quality recovers sufficiently to enable an acceptable transmit power level to be used. While the power is at the decreased level, transmission of a data block may continue, or may be suspended, with the data block being truncated if the whole block has not been transmitted by the end of the time period available for transmission of the data block.

  • Patent number: 8130767
Abstract: A method of aggregating network traffic flows for network traffic elements is described. The traffic elements are characterized by a plurality of characteristics having respective values, where a flow profile is formed by classifying each element into one of a plurality of flows dependent on its characteristic value. The method comprises the steps of obtaining an instantaneous flow profile and aggregating flows from the flow profile having a common value for a characteristic.

  • Patent number: 8125930
Abstract: Algorithms and data structure are described for constructing and maintaining a clock distribution tree (“CDT”) for timing loop avoidance. The CDT algorithms and data structure allows a node to make an automated and unattended path switch to the most desirable clock source in the network. In response to a network topology change, a clock root node distributes new clock paths to all nodes in the network. In particular, the root node calculates a new clock path for each affected node by building a clock source topology tree, and identifying from that tree a path to the network node from a clock source of higher or equal stratum relative to that network node. The root node then sends a network message to each node indicating the new path that the node should use. Each node receives the message and compares the new path with the existing path. If the paths are different then the node acquires the new path just received in the message. If the paths are the same then the node does nothing and discards the message.

  • Patent number: 8125917
Abstract: In a wireless network comprising access points deployed within a designated zone of coverage, the radio frequency field strength resulting from radiation from the access points is optimised as a function of location by means of control of the transmission power and/or radiation pattern of the access points in response to measurements from sensors at defined locations that measure received signal power, the received power being related to radio frequency field strength. Sensors may be deployed within the designated zone of coverage, at the edge of the zone and/or outside the zone and optimization of the transmission parameters of the access points in terms of transmission power and/or radiation pattern is carried out taking into account the location of the sensors in addition to the received power at the sensors.

  • Patent number: 8121427
Abstract: A method, and apparatus, and logic encoded in one or more computer-readable tangible medium to carry out a method of determining a breakpoint position in an ordered sequence of quantized transform coefficients of a block of image data for a hybrid variable length coding the ordered sequence. The breakpoint location in the sequence is between a low-frequency region and a high-frequency region. The hybrid variable length coding method includes coding the low-frequency region using a selected low-frequency variable length coding method; coding the high-frequency region using a selected high-frequency variable length coding method; and coding the position in the sequence of the breakpoint. The breakpoint location is determining uses a relatively simple and fast method based on pre-defined cost criteria. A method is included that instead of coding the breakpoint separately, codes the breakpoint jointly with coefficient events.

  • Patent number: 8116363
Abstract: Systematic transmit IQ phase and amplitude imbalances in the transmit chain of a wireless local area network (WLAN) cause a corresponding systematic shift in the roots of a constellation diagram. Additional random phase noise in the transmit chain will cause a further Gaussian distribution of points in the constellation diagram about the systematically shifted roots. This random distribution represents a true error vector magnitude (EVM). By transmitting a known training sequence through the transmit chain, which it is known will be shifted to all of the systematically shifted roots in the constellation diagram, the Gaussian spread around those shifted roots can be analysed to determine the true EVM.

  • Patent number: 8111615
Abstract: A method and apparatus for dynamically modifying routing information in an interconnect architecture without quiescence is herein described. Each agent/node holds routing information regarding target agents/nodes in an interconnect architecture, which may include routing preferences. When a node is to be hot removed, it generates port disable messages to neighbors. The neighbors disable a port the disable message is received on and generates a completion message back to the not to be removed. The node to be removed continues to route messages until it receives a completion; at which time it disables a corresponding node. When all nodes are disabled the device may be removed. Other nodes in the interconnect architecture learn of an agent removal through use of return cycles when messages reach dead ends during attempted routing of cycles. Furthermore, hot addition of a node includes broadcasting of an enable message to enable nodes for routing to the added node.

  • Patent number: 8111721
Abstract: A multiplexing system (10) is provided which includes a plurality of encoders (12-15) which generates elementary streams, respectively, CPU (16), multiplexer (17), instruction memory (18), and a data memory (19) which stores a plurality of elementary data to be multiplexed. Each of the encoders (12-15) divides elementary data into units, and stores the data into the data memory (19). The CPU (16) generates, for each of the data units, instruction data having stated therein a storage location in the data memory (19) and stores the instruction data into the instruction memory (18). The multiplexer (17) reads the instruction data one by one from the instruction memory (18), and reads data units stated in the instruction data sequentially from the data memory (19), for generation of a multiplexed stream. Thus, the burden of processing to the controller can be lessened.

  • Patent number: 8102755
Abstract: A method for mapping a physical downlink control format indicator channel to physical resources includes the steps that 16 modulated data y(0), y(1), . . . , y(15) of a downlink control signaling indicator channel in an LTE system are divided into 4 groups in order and mapped by groups, which allows the downlink control format indicator channel to be mapped exactly to the continuous 4 resource elements recombined by resources which are divided among all system physical resources except the pilots according to such continuous 4 resource elements. By defining group mapping rules, this method can offer the maximum gain of frequency selectivity.
