  • Patent number: 5913168
Abstract: In a multicellular radio communications network, when a mobile station satisfies a criterion for automatic intercellular handover from a source cell to a target cell, the speed of movement of the mobile station with respect to the base station of the target cell is estimated on the basis of the measured levels of the signal which the mobile station has received from this base station before the handover criterion is satisfied. Depending on the layers of the cells concerned, it is then possible to take account of this speed estimate in order to decide whether or not to trigger intercellular handovers.

  • Patent number: 5893031
Abstract: A system and method for collecting fingerprint reference wave forms under controlled conditions includes a radio frequency (RF) enclosure designed to receive a cellular telephone. A control system, including a transmitter and receiver provides RF communications with a cellular phone placed in the enclosure. A processor controls operation of the transmitter and receiver. The processor sends commands to the cellular phone in the enclosure using the transmitter. The transmitted commands are selected to elicit a RF transmission from the cellular phone in response to the command. The receiver detects the response from the cellular telephone and generates a reference wave form indicative of the transmission characteristics of the transmitter of the cellular phone in the enclosure. The processor captures one or more reference waveforms that can be used to generate a fingerprint indicative of a transmission characteristic of the transmitter of the cellular telephone.

  • Patent number: 5887263
Abstract: A mobile communication system includes base stations, mobile stations, first and second channel assigning section, and a channel ratio changing section. The base stations are installed in correspondence with cells constituting a service area. Each mobile station performs communication with the base station through one channel selected from the channels classified into first and second groups. The first channel assigning section uses a channel segregation scheme of controlling the priority of a channel set in each of the base stations on the basis of carrier to interference ratios of a channel belonging to the first group, measured at both the mobile station and the base station, and selects/assigns one idle channel in the first group on the basis of the controlled priority.

  • Patent number: 5887255
Abstract: System and method for operating a wireless telephone system particularly a wireless Private Branch Exchange (PBX), as both a voice system and a pager system. The system includes a protocol for communicating both voice conversations and display data to a remote unit. Remote units, which may be pagers, personal communications units, mobile telephones, and the like, communicate with the wired portion of the system using the same protocols and signalling techniques.
