  • Patent number: 7986937
Abstract: The invention instantiates a Personal VLAN bridge, using IEEE Std. 802.11 elements. The result is a bridge, referred to as a public access point, that is better suited for implementing public wireless data networks than the IEEE Std. 802.11 architecture. The invention also provides a location-update protocol for updating the forwarding tables of bridges that connect public access points together. The invention further provides a method for more controlled bridging, which is referred to as fine bridging.

  • Patent number: 7822419
Abstract: A method for providing concurrent service in a mobile communication system is disclosed in which a SCCP connection identifier SLR/DLR of a lower layer and a Service Option Connection Identifier (SOCI) on an IOS message of the higher layer to be exchanged are transmitted when a SCCP connection is established between a BSC and a MSC, thereby providing additional services to those already requested from a mobile station after the SCCP connection establishment without stopping a currently used service. According to the method, the concurrent service is provided while minimizing the conventional call processing procedures on the interface between the BSC and the MSC, thereby allowing a subscriber to use new additional service without stopping the current service or concurrently use a plurality of services such as voice and packet data services. Furthermore, a flexible confront is possible to a future development direction of the network.

  • Patent number: 7822422
Abstract: A wireless communication system is composed of a client station, and a base station adapted to communicate with the client station through a wireless medium. The client station is designed to defer a transmission of a packet to the base station for a period of time when the wireless medium is busy. The period of time is controlled in response to a communication protocol used for communications between the base station and the client station.

  • Patent number: 7764944
Abstract: A method of communication to at least one wireless unit originating an emergency call. The method includes the step of receiving one or more routing tags associated with a wireless unit originating a “9-1-1” call. A routing tag may comprise, for example, a string of numbers corresponding with Emergency Service Routing Digits (“ESRD”) and/or an Emergency Service Routing Key (“ESRK”). In addition to the routing tag, a mobile equipment identification number (“MEIN”) and/or a paging identity (“PGID”) may also be received by a database accessible by wireless network infrastructure elements, such as a mobile switching center (“MSC”), as well as the emergency call center, including the local public service answering point, for example. In response to this receiving step, at least one unique identifier (e.g., unique call back number) may be generated. This unique identifier may be a dialable number to enable the emergency call center to call back the wireless unit originating the “9-1-1” call.

  • Patent number: 7756531
Abstract: A telecommunication system and method for notifying a calling party, via a Preventive Disturbance Announcement (PDA), that a called party is in an area where the called party would prefer not to be disturbed with non-urgent calls. The calling party is then given the opportunity to either talk to the mobile called party or to leave a message or callback number. If the calling party decides to try to talk to the user, a Home Location Register (HLR) directs the call to a Visitor Location Register (VLR), and a mobile ending call is generated via a Mobile Switching Center (MSC). For non-urgent calls, the called party is given an option to refuse a voice mail page or Caller ID page of the non-urgent calls. The HLR will direct the Short Message Service (SMS) Service Center (SMS/SC) to store, in a buffer or external source, the Caller ID of non-urgent calls that were not connected to the called party while the PDA was active.

  • Patent number: 7747258
Abstract: A network sends to a user equipment (UE) an indication (e.g., a request for permission) to perform a position fix for the UE. The network also selectively sends to the UE a pre-session command for an action related to position determination. For example, the command may direct the UE to (1) clear all or a portion of location-related data at the UE prior to performing the position fix, (2) send back a position estimate for the UE, if available, or (3) apply a time offset and/or a position offset in performing the position fix. The UE sends to the network an acknowledgment (e.g., a grant of permission) to perform the position fix. The UE also performs the action indicated by the command (if any) received from the network prior to or in conjunction with performing the position fix. The network and UE perform the position fix for the UE.

  • Patent number: 7729703
Abstract: A method in a wireless communication device and an apparatus, such as a wireless communication device, for reporting a channel quality indication to non-serving cells. The device can operate on a shared channel on a serving cell. The device can send a channel quality indicator message on a medium access control layer to multiple candidate cells in an active set of cells. The device can then switch from the serving cell to a new serving cell from the multiple candidate cells based on information in the channel quality indicator message.

  • Patent number: 7725106
Abstract: Cell reselection comprises monitoring a first indicator indicative of a signaling level of the serving cell, and monitoring second indicators, each indicative of a signaling level of one of plural potential target cells. A timer associated with a potential target cell is initiated when the respective second indicator indicates that the signaling level of the potential target cell is better than the signaling level of the serving cell. Each timer has an associated expiry, and, if at least one timer has been initiated by the expiry of another initiated timer, then, after delaying for an additional period after at least the first timer has expired, a target cell is selected from the potential target cells. The target cell is selected that has a second indicator which indicates that the signaling level of the respective target cell is better than the signaling level of the serving cell.

  • Patent number: 7702283
Abstract: A method for reducing electromagnetic emissions in an electronic device having a multiple micro-controllers includes identifying the number of micro-controllers installed in the electronic device. An operating frequency range of the electronic device is determined based on the operating frequency range of each micro-controller. A frequency spacing for each micro-controller within the operating frequency range of the electronic device is then calculated, and an operating frequency is assigned to each micro-controller. The operating frequency of each micro-controller is separated from the operating frequency of each other micro-controller by at least the frequency spacing. Then, the operating frequency of each micro-controller is set at the assigned operating frequency.

  • Patent number: 7693485
Abstract: A Bluetooth master unit polls a slave unit to enable the slave to resynchronize to the master, by sending POLL packets with sufficient frequency to maintain a connection to the slave, and in the intervals between such packets, sending NULL packets with sufficient frequency to maintain synchronization of the slave. By replacing some POLL packets with NULL packets, since the slave does not have to respond to a NULL packet, it can save some power, and there is reduced interference on other piconets. The frequency of the remaining POLL packets is set according to a Link Supervision Timeout (to avoid having this timer expire and thus keep the Bluetooth Link to the slave alive) and according to the time since the master received the last packet from the slave.

  • Patent number: 7664500
Abstract: A network service control method detects whether a mobile node communicating with a corresponding node is trending to a second local area network from a first local area network and forks and transmits a user agent and a server agent to a proxy when the mobile node is trending to the second local area network. After that, the user agent registers onto the proxy according to a result obtained by the handshaking. Finally, when the mobile node moves into the second local area network, the mobile node communicates with the user agent for obtaining a connection tunnel reserved by the user agent to communicate with the corresponding node.

  • Patent number: 7630481
Abstract: A system and method provide a telecommunications extension service for a subscriber. The system allows a subscriber to identify one or more telecommunications units to serve as extensions of one of the subscriber's telecommunications units when a call is directed to the subscriber's telecommunications unit. A list of numbers associated with telecommunications units to serve as extensions is maintained by the subscriber and may be stored at a service control point. Upon receipt of a call directed to the subscriber's telecommunications unit, ringing is provided to the subscriber's telecommunications unit and the telecommunications units serving as extensions. After the call is answered by the first telecommunications unit to be answered, the remaining telecommunications units can join the in-progress call.
