Abstract: The present invention addresses the problem of excessive discoloration in hydroquinone compositions of a neutral pH. Antioxidants in the hydroquinone phase and inorganic or amino acyl cationic salts of acidic ascorbyl esters, preferably sodium metabisulfite and magnesium ascorbyl phosphate respectively, are effective in stabilizing such hydroquinone compositions, which are used in treatment of pigmentation disorders. Protected retinoid may be added to these compositions for additional skin benefit effects.

Abstract: The present invention relates to absorbent articles including non-aqueous compositions for protecting the barrier function of the skin. The compositions can be applied to the bodyfacing surfaces of absorbent articles so that the compositions come into contact with the skin. The compositions of the invention have improved stability on the bodyfacing surfaces after processing. The compositions of the invention provide several benefits including prevention and alleviation of skin irritations associated with the use of absorbent articles. The compositions can include emollients, viscosity enhancers and extracted botanical actives.

Abstract: An antiviral composition comprising: a thiosulfate salt and at least one of thiosulfate complex salt of a metal and a porous particulate carrier; said metal being at least one selected from the group consisting of silver, copper and zinc; said salts being carried on said porous particulate carrier. It is applicable to a wide range of living environment such as medical instruments and appliances, hygienic implements as well as kitchen utensils, and also demonstrates an antibacterial activity in addition to the antiviral activity. The composition releases its salts slowly to the environment and the antiviral and antibacterial activities of said composition lasts for a long period of time. A method for preparing said composition as well as an antiviral disinfection method and a virucidal disinfection fluid using said composition are also disclosed.

Abstract: Process for the manufacture of a solid cosmetic composition using plaster of Paris, in which:a pulverulent mixture (P) consisting of:1) calcium sulphate hemihydrate (CaSO.sub.4.1/2 H.sub.2 O) in powder form,2) a hydrophobic fraction (OF) comprising at least one fatty substance and/or at least one pulverulent substance treated by coating or chemical grafting so as to give it hydrophobic properties,3) a hydrophilic fraction (IF) in powder form, is prepared, the weight proportion IF/OF being between 0.08 and 7.5;an aqueous phase (AP) in liquid form is prepared;the pulverulent mixture (P) and the aqueous phase (AP) are headed in a weight proportion P/AP of between 0.2 and 2, so as to obtain a pourable mixture;the pourable mixture is run into a mould;it is left to harden by hydration of the calcium sulphate hemihydrate to calcium sulphate dihydrate (CaSO.sub.4.2H.sub.2 O), and the product is removed from the mould.

Abstract: Topically applicable sunscreen/cosmetic compositions having improved cosmetic properties and well suited for enhanced photoprotection of human skin and/or hair against the damaging effects of UV-A and UV-B irradiation, particularly solar radiation, comprise (i) a photoprotecting effective amount of 2,4,6-tris[p-((2'-ethylhexyl)oxycarbonyl)anilino]-1,3,5-triazine and (ii) the oil dioctyl malate, in an amount effective to itself substantially dissolve the total amount of triazine compound (i), in a cosmetically acceptable vehicle, diluent or carrier therefor.
