Patent number: 4177859Abstract: An air condenser for condensing vapors where freezing or solidification of the condensate is likely to occur. Finned tube bundles are used, which are arranged so as to form a primary condensation zone and a secondary condensation zone. The tube bundles are placed at a slope and are struck by an air stream coming from below. The innermost tubes are directly struck by the cooling airstream and make up the first condensation zone. The outermost tubes receive air which has been preheated since it has flowed through the first condensation zone. These outermost tubes make up the second condensation zone. Thus vapors which are not condensed immediately are condensed in the second condensation zone. The apparatus is a compact, self-contained and efficient unit which is cheaper than the prior art devices both as to initial cost and upkeep cost.Type: GrantFiled: April 6, 1978Date of Patent: December 11, 1979Assignee: Snamprogetti, S.p.A.Inventors: Maurizio Gatti, Sergio Tavano, Basilio Checcacci

Patent number: 4167371Abstract: A method and apparatus for transferring heat regeneratively in a rotating heat exchanger. The heat exchanger provides for the cold gas stream to be heated alternate compression and expansion with heat addition usually during the expansion phase of the compression-expansion step from a warmer fluid. The fluid to be heated is usually a gas, while the fluid releasing heat may be either a gas or liquid. The heat element is a folded member usually in the form of bellows mounted concentric with rotor shaft, with baffles within to provide for outward and inward movement of the gas. Due to the heat addition especially during the expansion steps, the gas to be heated gains in pressure and usually this pressure gain is work free, and in magnitude is similar to the constant volume heat addition pressure gain which is well known.Type: GrantFiled: September 6, 1977Date of Patent: September 11, 1979Inventor: Michael Eskeli
