  • Patent number: 6493319
Abstract: A system and method for accessing a number of communication lines by one or more testing devices are disclosed. Each of the communications lines is coupled through the system and includes a first termination at a first telecommunications termination site and a second termination at a second telecommunications termination site. The system includes a number of line access devices, each of which is coupled to at least one of the communication lines terminating at the first telecommunications termination site and at least one of the communication lines terminating at the second telecommunications termination site. One or more monitoring busses are defined by a number of relays, one or more of which is coupled to one of the line access devices. A test device interface, which is selectively coupled to the bus, provides bi-directional connectivity between the selected communication line and a selected testing device coupled thereto.

  • Patent number: 5777992
Abstract: An encoded digital signal having frames of different lengths is decoded to obtain a wideband digital signal. The decoder converts frames having information packets, where the number of packets in a frame is related to the sampling frequency of the wideband digital signal, the bitrate of the encoded digital signal, the number of bits in the information packets, and the number of samples of the wideband digital signal whose corresponding information is the encoded digital signal in the frame. A receiver for such a signal includes a decoder for converting the frames.

  • Patent number: 5745495
Abstract: A switching system for integratedly switching voice, data, image information and the like. The switching system comprises a plurality of front-end modules each adapted to perform a switching processing in association with a subscriber line or a trunk line, and a single or a plurality of central modules for interconnecting the plurality of front-end modules in star-type fashion and switching information prevailing between the front-end modules, in unit of block accommodating the information and a header added thereto to contain connection control information and in accordance with the contents of the header. The front-end modules are connected to the central module via inter-module highways each having frames occurring at a predetermined period and time slots contained in each frame to carry blocks.

  • Patent number: 5621730
Abstract: A digital receiver apparatus and method, designed for multiple simultaneous users, digitizes a received analog RF signal and tunes to multiple desired frequencies of the received signal on a time division multiplexed basis. After filtering by a finite impulse response (FIR) filter that also operates in time division multiplexing for multiple service bands, the selected signals are digitally demodulated and signal processed, again on a time-shared basis. Different service bands are accommodated at the same time by separate FIR filters, each including a coefficient memory for its particular service band. The multiplexed frequency signal for each band is multiplied by the coefficients of its respective FIR filter memory in a common complex multiplier. The results are demultiplexed and directed to respective accumulators for decimation in accordance with the FIR coefficient characteristics.

  • Patent number: 5513183
Abstract: A mobile telephone system multiplexes plural voice traffic channels on a single carrier using a TDMA protocol. The capacity of the mobile telephone system is increased by assigning voice traffic capacity, not on a conversation basis, but on an information burst basis. In order to avoid compromising the voice transmission capacity, control signals (for the allocation and deallocation of both forward and reverse traffic channels) are sent using multiple diversity, i.e. both time and frequency. In addition, to increase the number of available control channels, a control channel comprises a sub-divided portion of an otherwise equivalent voice traffic slot. For reverse allocation requests, which are transmitted over a contention access channel, power diversity is used in addition to time and frequency diversity.

  • Patent number: 5488609
Abstract: A device (500) and method (300) provide for management of resource allocation on selected links in a connection-oriented communication network such that existing connections may share the burden of freeing up resources for accommodating new connections. The rate of a connection is dynamically adjusted, on a connection-by-connection basis, using information on the status of each link broadcast throughout the network. Links are marked based on control information in the link state, and the in-call rate adjustment is based on negotiable Quality of Service, QOS, parameters.
