Abstract: An improved two-way torque limiting coupling (10) of the type utilizing a single helical coil clutch (18) and an automatic slack adjuster utilizing same is provided. The coupling provides a driving connection between a first (12) and a second (14) rotatable adjacent members. The first member includes a bore (24) opening to an end (20) in which one end of coil clutch is received in interference fit to define an internal clutch interface (34) and the other member defines an annular outer periphery (26) about which the other end of the coil clutch is received in an interference fit to define an external clutch interface (36).
Abstract: A gear assembly includes a pair of driving and driven helical gears permanently in meshing engagement with each other to provide a torque transmission therebetween, and an additional plate-like gear formed at its outer periphery with helical teeth the helix angle of which is different from each helix angle of respective teeth of the helical gears and being resiliently deformable in an axial direction. The additional plate-like gear is coaxially and rotatably mounted in place on a hub portion of the driven helical gear and meshed at its two teeth with one tooth of the driving gear such that the additional plate-like gear is resiliently in contact with one end face of the driven gear at a place radially opposite to the meshed portion of the helical gears.
Abstract: A support tube, included as a part of a collapsible steering column, makes the steering column much more stable and less prone to vibration without changing or hindering the collapsing characteristics of the steering column.
Abstract: An actuating mechanism is rotatably and pivotably mounted to a rotatable adjusting mechanism of an instrument. The rotatable mechanism includes a bearing surface and a friction surface. The actuating mechanism includes a pivot and friction means. By pivoting the actuating mechanism about the pivot against the bearing surface, the friction means engages the friction surface. The actuating mechanism and adjusting mechanism are thereby locked together and can be rotated in unison. The rotatable mechanism may include a second bearing surface and a second friction surface and the actuating mechanism may include a second pivot and a second friction means. The second bearing surface and the second pivot are adjacent each other, as are the second friction surface and the second friction means. Pivoting the actuating mechanism in a second direction will engage the second pivot to the second bearing surface and the second friction means to the second friction surface.

Abstract: A device for preventing reverse gear buzzing in a manual transmission comprising a transmission casing, a forward speeds unit provided with a plurality of synchromesh mechanisms, a reverse unit provided with a selective sliding mesh mechanism of a reverse idler gear and having a reverse shift head, a shift-and-select lever shaft, an inner lever attached to the shift-and-select lever shaft, an interlocking plate loosely mounted to the shift-and-select lever shaft and holding the inner lever at both ends, said interlocking plate serving to hold immovably at the neutral position the remaining shift heads other than one of said shift heads which is selected by the select operation of the inner lever, a locking means fixed to the transmission casing and adapted to hold the interlocking plate in such a manner that the interlocking plate is permitted to axially move together with the lever shaft and to rotate relative to the lever shaft, a stopper formed on the shift head adjacent to the reverse shift head and adapt
Abstract: An automotive vehicle power-actuated seat adjuster assembly includes a screw type height adjustment apparatus employing a nut held axially but rotatable under applied torque within spaced antifriction bearings, one of which bearings is an element molded of low friction polymeric material formed with elastic thrust absorbing legs deflectable to provide up to a predetermined amount of axial preload in the screw and nut elements.

Abstract: A gear wheel assembly in a gear transmission, in which a gear wheel mounted in position on a shaft is formed at its hub portion with an axial stepped bore, which includes a first inner spline portion of large diameter and a second inner spline portion of small diameter, and the shaft is formed axially in sequence with a cylindrical portion engaged with the second inner spline portion of the gear wheel with a press fit, a first outer spline portion slidably engaged with the first inner spline portion of the gear wheel, and a second outer spline portion engaged with the first inner spline portion of the gear wheel with a press fit.
Abstract: A remote control gear shift linkage system for a manual transmission comprises a manually operable control lever, a control rod connected between the control lever and the transmission for transmitting a movement of the control lever to the transmission to effect a gear shift, and a support rod supported on a vehicle body for supporting the control lever. In order to avoid unwanted influences of a resonance of the remote control linkage, a concentrated mass member is fastened to a portion of the support rod. The concentrated mass member may take the form of a sleeve fitted over the support rod or a solid bar fitted into the bore of the hollow support rod.
