  • Patent number: 7068150
Abstract: A system receives AC power from an Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS) on an AC power cable. The AC power cable couples a primary AC line voltage or a switched secondary AC line voltage depending on the quality of the primary AC line voltage. The UPS has a modulating circuit with a power line carrier protocol that receives a power down signal from the UPS if the primary AC line voltage indicates that the system should power down in a controlled manner or take other power down actions. The modulating circuit generates a modulated power down signal that is coupled to the AC power cable. The system has a corresponding demodulating receiving circuit with the power line carrier protocol that receives the modulated power down signal and regenerates the power down signal. The power down signal is coupled to circuitry in the system that initiates power down sequencing options.

  • Patent number: 7068169
Abstract: A radio frequency identification system comprising a radio reader circuit operable to emit a radio frequency carrier signal modulated with a subcarrier, which has a subcarrier modulation rate. The radio frequency identification tag circuit is operable to extract the subcarrier from the emitted radio frequency carrier signal and the extracted subcarrier then functions as a clock, which operates to assist in the transfer of a modulated backscattered signal to the radio frequency identification reader circuit. The radio frequency identification reader circuit decodes the modulated backscattered signal and the data encoded in the radio frequency identification tag circuit is obtained.

  • Patent number: 7068160
Abstract: An open door alert system for a vehicle causes an exterior light of the vehicle to flash if one or more vehicle doors are open. A sensor determines if the door, such as a sliding door of a van or minivan, is open. If the door is open, the exterior light flashes on and off to alert drivers of other vehicles that passengers may be entering or exiting the vehicle. Additionally, an interior vehicle light flashes concurrently with the exterior light to alert the driver that the door is open.

  • Patent number: 7034679
Abstract: A system controls security devices to enhance the security of self-checkout stations. The system includes security agent applications executing in the terminals of a plurality of self-checkout stations. The security agent software generates and transmits event messages regarding security events occurring at a station to a server. The server assigns a priority level to the event messages and sends the prioritized event messages as alert messages to a security controller. The security controller is coupled to security cameras, image data storage devices, and image data display devices and generates control messages for these devices in accordance with the alert messages received. The control messages for the security cameras operate the cameras to zoom, focus, tilt, or pan with respect to the events occurring at a station. Image data storage devices are coupled by the controller to cameras for the purpose of recording image data from the station in either a continuous or still image manner.

  • Patent number: 7034673
Abstract: Method for monitoring an electrohydraulic braking system. The volume uptake is determined by the elasticity within the wheel brake that is subjected to certain fluctuations, on the one hand, and to a much greater degree by the clearance that is present, on the other hand. To make a reliable statement relating to the air charge, an estimation of the current clearance is first made, taking three ranges into consideration. If there is a normal clearance, a top evaluation threshold is taken as a basis, which assumes the clearance lies at the upper end of the normal range. When said evaluation threshold is exceeded, an alarm is triggered. If the clearance is assumed to lie at the bottom limit of the normal range, a bottom evaluation threshold applies, however, an alarm is only triggered in this case this situation has occurred several times in succession.

  • Patent number: 7034674
Abstract: An hour meter having a display that provides a visual indication of a total time an engine has operated and a visual indication of engine operation time remaining in a predetermined service time interval. A plurality of segments on the display are selectively displayed in a first optical state or a second optical state. A display drive displays the segments in the first optical state at a beginning of a predetermined service interval. The drive changes the optical state of a first segment from the first optical state to the second optical state when a given portion of the predetermined service time interval has elapsed. The drive incrementally changes the state of a remainder of the plurality of segments from the first optical state to said second optical state as additional portions of the predetermined service time interval elapse to graphically display the amount of engine operation time remaining in the predetermined service time interval.

  • Patent number: 7015818
Abstract: A closed pneumatic sound sensor is incorporated in a driver's seat and catches a signal representative of a movement of the body of the driver, and a continuation time period within which the level of the signal does not reach a fixed level is detected. Simultaneously, a signal which is generated only when the vehicle is running is caught from the vehicle, and the two signals are compared with each other by an arithmetic operation circuit. Only when both of the signals are present and a particular tendency appears in the continuation time period of the signal representative of a movement of the body, an alarm is generated. A less expensive doze-at-the-wheel alarming apparatus which does not require cumbersome mounting and does not operate when the vehicle is not running is provided.
