  • Patent number: 5216708
Abstract: A calling signal controller in which a calling signal generator having a necessary and minimum output capacity is used to the most efficiently possible extent. The controller includes a phase number memory specifying the total number of phases of calling signals used to selectively call a plurality of telephone sets, a ringing count memory loaded with a ring count for each of the phases, and a ringing control memory of which addresses are associated with the phase numbers and the ringing counts, thereby controlling the calling signals.

  • Patent number: 5214687
Abstract: A method determines the transmission quality of a signal transmitted by a base station and received by a mobile station in a cellular digital radio telephone network. The mobile station determines the phase error of detected bits a the input of the channel decoder, calculates the average and variance of the phase error. The average and variance are used to calculate the S/N ratio. The S/N ratio information is transmitted to a base station which converts the S/N ratio to a value defining the BER estimate of the received signal.

  • Patent number: 5214691
Abstract: A virtual private line key telephone system is provided. The system includes a console including a plurality of line keys each associated with a party that can be reached via a switched trunk line. A look-up table means associates the line keys with the telephone numbers of the associated parties. A communication path is established from the console to one of the trunk lines. Signals are sent to the central office via the selected trunk line corresponding to the telephone number in the look-up table means associated with a line key that is actuated to place a calls. The telephone number of incoming calls are determined and compared with telephone numbers in the look-up table. Thereafter the line keys which are associated with the incoming calls are determined. The incoming call is coupled to the console when a line key associated with the incoming caller is actuated.

  • Patent number: 5210380
Abstract: Disclosed herein are position determining apparatus and conductor structures or grids therefor. The conductor structure for each axis includes a number of conductors which are run in a serpentine-type path each with uniform repeat increment. The repeat increment, which is the spacing or span between one run and the next of the same serpentine-type conductor, are uniform for each conductor (but may change from conductor to conductor) and is constrained by a maximum repeat increment, or a minimum repeat increment. In the preferred embodiments, there is at least a constraint on the maximum repeat increment to provide noise immunity. The conductors are arranged for each axis of the grid in a pattern such that signals obtained for that axis may be processed to provide binary numbers in a Gray-type code each unique to a small region of the active area in which the coil center is located.

  • Patent number: 5210789
Abstract: Disclosed is a technique for presenting information to a telephone operator to enhance the efficient completion of telephone calls. Numerous data bases are generated to make available information concerning any type of telephone call with which the operator might be requested to assist or complete. The operator workstation is program controlled to access the various data bases and present information particular to that type of telephone call being serviced. Interaction between the operator and the workstation based on visual menus allows the operator to initiate access to the data bases for other or more detailed information which is displayed on menus and overlay menus.

  • Patent number: 5208849
Abstract: A method of and an apparatus for private telephone automatic locating and answering. By installing at a receiver's location, an apparatus for automatic telephone locating and answering, the receiver not only can talk to the caller using a telephone set provided by the apparatus, but the apparatus can also automatically dial up a paging center to locate the receiver. Then the receiver may dial up his own automatic locating apparatus, to hold conversation.

  • Patent number: 5208846
Abstract: A subscriber loop tester for testing local loops of telephone switching networks has a partitioned "U" interface and an internal bus architecture for converting various transceiver circuit output data formats to a common data format. The "U" interface has a high impedance transformer meeting bandwidth and line matching requirements for different line codes and protocols for ISDN telecommunication systems. The transformer is selectively coupled to option cards each containing circuitry having AC and DC terminations matching specific line codes and protocols for ISDN telecommunications systems and other types of telecommunications systems. The option cards further contain programmable attenuators for producing a proper nominal signal level as a function of the specific line code and protocol and providing variable insertion loss. A high speed bus is selectively coupled to the option cards for coupling the formatted transceiver circuit output data between the cards and a digital bus translator.

  • Patent number: 5202917
Abstract: A person to whom a telephone call is directed is called at an extension either by voice only or by voice during each silent period of an audible ringing signal. A plurality of telephone sets are provided where each telephone set includes a receiver for receiving a telephone call and a called person signal representative of a called person to whom the telephone call is directed. A telephone call and the corresponding called person signal can be transferred to another telephone set by placing the caller on hold and accessing a base unit which transmits the call and the corresponding called person signal to the appropriate portable unit. Each unit in the system includes a voice signal amplifier and an audible ringing signal generating circuit to output the ringing and voice calls through a speaker.

  • Patent number: 4459436
Abstract: A mechanized system distributing the access, test and communication functions to the point of testing, typically the centralized switching facility serving the telephone loops and equipment to be tested. Computer (200) stores information about each subscriber loop in the geographical area served by a system. Front-end computers (220,221) interact with computer (200) to retrieve pertinent data regarding loops to be tested. Each switching facility in an area includes a loop testing system (e.g. 160) that implements the required functions. The communication functions residing in front-end computers (220,221) and loop testing systems (160,161) are coupled via a data communication network (140) in a manner that allows any front-end computer to communicate with any loop testing system. Users of the system control access and test from consoles having the capability of establishing independent communication paths over the national dial network for interactive tests on loops accessed through standard test trunks.

  • Patent number: 4075470
Abstract: A portable electric lamp generally designed to connect to the electrical supply system in an automobile. The portable electric lamp as a base and a pair of feet pivotally secured to the base at spaced locations thereon and about parallel axes. A U-shaped bracket having a pair of upstanding and parallel legs and a bight portion is pivotally secured to the base for movement about a first pivot axis. A lamp holding casing is received between the upstanding legs of the bracket and is pivotally connected to each of the legs of the bracket to support the lamp holding casing for moving about a second pivot axis perpendicular to the first pivot axis. The lamp holding casing includes structure for releasably holding at least one lamp or sealed beam bulb therein. An electrical cord having an electrical probe thereon is provided for connecting the lamp to a source of electrical energy.
