  • Patent number: 5492058
Abstract: Sealing device for a dampening unit of an offset printing machine having a dampening-medium applicator roller and a metering roller rolling on one another so that a duct for receiving a supply of dampening medium therein is formed by an upper wedge located between the metering roller and the applicator roller, and having a sealing support bracket mountable on a lateral part of the dampening unit pre-stressed in a direction towards an end face of the rollers, and a sealing element held by the sealing support bracket and sealingly supported radially on the metering roller and sealingly engaging the end face of the dampening-medium applicator roller. A path is defined for swivelling the sealing element into a make-ready position wherein the sealing element is removable from the sealing device, the path being left free by the sealing support bracket so that the sealing element may be turned about the metering roller.

  • Patent number: 5485781
Abstract: The apparatus for screen printing from one edge to the other of an object of a rigid material, beside the conventional components for screen printing, includes a scraper, acting on the lower face of the printing frame, for removing ink from the portion of design that exceeds the perimetric dimensions of the object to be printed. Through the apparatus it is possible to perform a method for screen printing from one edge to the other of an object made of a rigid material, which method consists of printing the design on the object, exceeding the printing on at least one of the edges of the object; spacing the printing frame from the printed object and scraping, from the lower face of the printing frame facing the object, ink which has not been deposited on the object because of the lesser dimensions of the object with respect of the design.

  • Patent number: 5484212
Abstract: A method of lubricating a bearing (58) in a printing unit (14) includes the step of directing a quantity of grease into the bearing (58), and the step of directing pressurized air into contact with the grease. The bearing (58) supports a printing cylinder (16) for rotation in the printing unit (14), and includes a plurality of rolling elements (100) between a pair of opposed bearing race surfaces (94, 88). A predetermined quantity (160) of grease is directed to flow from a hydraulic pump (114) to the space between the bearing race surfaces (94, 88). The pressurized air is directed to flow from a pneumatic pump (132) into contact with the grease to remove a first portion of the predetermined quantity (160) of grease from the space between the bearing race surfaces (94, 88). The pressurized air further spreads a second portion of the predetermined quantity (160) of grease into coatings (190) which extend over the rolling element surfaces (104) and the bearing race surfaces (94, 88).

  • Patent number: 5483884
Abstract: A sensor system (56) for measuring various parameters of a stench printer (10) includes a test fixture (58) having a plurality of sensors (64--64 and 68--68) arranged therein. The test fixture (58) is adapted for substitution with a conventional PWB (16) so as to underlie a stencil (26) of the printer to measure the forces on, and the proximity to, the stencil. The force and proximity information from the sensors (64--64 and 68--68) is coupled by an interface unit (70) to a control processor that processes the sensor information to indicate what stench printer parameters, if any, may need adjustment.

  • Patent number: 5483878
Abstract: A mimeographic printing machine includes a flexible rotary cylindrical printing drum, a lower pusher roller, an inside pusher roller, inside pusher roller controller, and printing sheet conveyor. A stencil paper is wound on the outer surface of the flexible rotary cylindrical printing drum. The lower pusher roller is provided in parallel with the flexible rotary cylindrical printing drum with a predetermined space between the lower pusher roller and the flexible rotary cylindrical printing drum and inside the flexible rotary cylindrical printing drum. The inside pusher roller controller moves the inside pusher roller between a deformation position to push the flexible tubular wall radially outwardly thereby to deform the flexible tubular wall towards the lower pusher roller in the case of printing, and a steady position to release the flexible tubular wall from the deformation in the case of non-printing. The printing sheet conveyor moves the printing sheet from the sheet supplying section through the space.

  • Patent number: 5483880
Abstract: A stamp unit includes a grip portion to be grasped by a hand, a stamp portion that is fixedly linked to the grip portion, a skirt member covering the outer peripheral side of the stamp side, and a protection cap that is freely detachably mounted on the stamp portion. The skirt member is upwardly and downwardly slidably supported. At its nonuse time, the lower end of the skirt member projects to a position lower than a print face portion of the stamp portion. However, by locating the stamp unit at a print position and pressing the grip portion, the skirt member is moved upwardly, and the print face portion of the stamp member is pressed against a print surface, whereby ink oozes out from the print face portion to perform the print operation. The stamp unit is further provided with plural engaging holes formed at the lower portion of the grip member and plural engaging pawls that are provided at the upper portion of the stamp member and elastically engaged with the respective engaging holes.

  • Patent number: 5463952
Abstract: A planographic printing plate in which a design pattern is realized in a part of the back surface of a support for the planographic printing plate without any adverse influence on a photosensitive resin layer on the front surface thereof. After an aluminum support with a thickness of 0.24 mm is cleaned by degreasing and etching, an electrolytic aqueous solution is prepared to contain the nitric acid concentration of 10 g/l and the aluminum ion concentration of 7 g/l. In an electrolytic treatment cell 5, the back surface of the aluminum support is arranged so as to be faced to an electrode. A 1 mm-thick masking plate formed of an insulating material punched to provided openings with arbitrary shapes is brought into close contact with the back surface of the aluminum support so that the back surface of the aluminum support is covered with the masking plate.
