Abstract: A system has a local area network, and software to automatically evaluate a network layer address, a lower layer address, a network port identifier, and/or a domain name of an equipment interface that is to be connected to the network. The software is to determine whether one of these matches an expected value for the network. The software is to provide a credential for each equipment interface that is authorized to connect to the network and that has been authenticated by the software. The credential contains a lower layer address, a network layer address, a domain name, and a network port identifier. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.

  • Patent number: 7729378
Abstract: A transceiver device for processing a frame in a wireless local area network, where the frame is one of several frame formats, which include a high throughput frame format. The transceiver device receives a frame having a training sequence, a signal field and a data payload, and processes the training sequence to detect which signal field length of a plurality of signal field lengths was used in the received frame. With the signal field length, the device processes the signal field based upon the detected signal field length to retrieve the data payload processing information.

  • Patent number: 7719988
Abstract: Data overhead of mesh-based multicast ad hoc routing protocols are controlled by adaptively adding redundancy to the minimal data overhead multicast mesh as required by the network conditions. The computation of the minimal data overhead multicast mesh is NP-complete, and therefore an heuristic approximation algorithm inspired on epidemic algorithms is employed to increase tractability of a solution. A mobility-aware and adaptive mesh construction algorithm based on a probabilistic path selection is provided, which is able to adapt the reliability of the multicast mesh to the mobility of the network. Simulation results show that the proposed approach, when implemented into On-Demand Multicast Routing Protocol (ODMRP), is able to offer similar performance results and a lower average latency, while reducing data overhead between 25 to 50% compared to the original ODMRP.

  • Patent number: 7710899
Abstract: A technique is provided for graceful restart of a Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) router that uses a local store on the restarting router that stores prefixes on all routes or the “group best path” information on all BGP peers having a common Autonomous System (AS) number. This local store is used to run best path computations on the restarting router, rather than first awaiting receipt of route information from peers to speed the restart process. Updates are then transmitted to peers using the best path data and an end-of-Routing Information Base (RIB) message it transmitted by the restarting router to indicate that all information has now been sent by the restarting router. Thereafter the restarting router processes incoming updates from peers as received (or these peers routes are timed-out), remaining stale paths are deleted and any changed best paths, based upon the newly received updates, are then transmitted to peers.

  • Patent number: 7706254
Abstract: A method is provided for providing protection of a local area network (LAN) connection that includes providing first and second LAN cards in a multi-service platform. The first and second LAN cards each include at least one port. The first and second LAN cards are coupled to a network edge device through their respective ports to communicate LAN traffic. The method also includes designating the first LAN card as an active card and the second LAN card as an inactive card. The method further includes detecting a network failure associated with the first LAN card. The method further includes protecting LAN traffic communicated between the second LAN card and the LAN by designating the second LAN card as an active card and the first LAN card as an inactive card.

  • Patent number: 7693086
Abstract: A data transfer control device includes: an interface circuit to which data of which one data unit is K bits is input through an interface bus; and a link controller which generates a packet transmitted through a serial bus. The link controller includes: a data formatter which generates (N×I)-byte packed data containing M pieces of (K+L)-bit data obtained by adding L bits of dummy data to the K-bit data, the data formatter generating the packed data in which L and M are variably set corresponding to K; and a packet generation circuit which generates a packet in which the packed data is inserted in a data field.

  • Patent number: 7656855
Abstract: An arrangement for providing synchronization between a number of overlapping area access points within a wireless LAN utilizes a Power over Ethernet (PoE) cable connection to transmit synchronization signals from a centralized hub/switch to each of the access points connected to the cable. The synchronization signal takes the form of a direct sequence spread spectrum (DS-SS) signal that is coupled onto the twisted pair used to provide the low voltage PoE signal to various powered devices. At each access point, a filter is used to remove the synchronization signal from the PoE transport, allowing for the group of access points to share a common beacon signal and allow for frequency re-use among the access points. The DS-SS signal is preferable created by a combination of a baseband signal and a set of separate pseudo noise (PN) sequences defining a precision phase (“pilot tone”) signal, a time mark (superframe/beacon) signal, and a time-of-day (real-time clock) signal.

  • Patent number: 7602703
Abstract: A method is provided for protecting a connection between a multi-service platform (MSP) and a local area network (LAN) that includes providing first and second LAN cards in the MSP. The first and second LAN cards are each coupled to the LAN over separate links. The method also includes providing a switch fabric. The switch fabric switches traffic having a synchronous optical network format for communication over a synchronous optical network to which the MSP is coupled. The switch fabric is coupled to the first and second LAN cards. The method further includes establishing a connection between the first and second LAN cards through the switch fabric. The method further includes establishing protection for traffic communicated between the LAN and the first LAN card by aggregating the links between the first and second LAN cards and the LAN.
