  • Patent number: 6980541
Abstract: A wireless network is provided that uses pseudo-static time slots. These time slots remain fixed in time unless and until a network controller specifically changes them and the network controller subsequently receives confirmation of the change. Times and durations of the pseudo-static time slots are only changed in small steps as each relevant device in the network acknowledges the step. To aid in allowing full coverage even during a change of active devices, when a transmitter and receiver are moved to a new time slot, the receiver is set to listen to both the old and the new time slots until the transmitter confirms that it has made the switch.

  • Patent number: 6954440
Abstract: Time division multiplexed input signals (i.e., separated into time slots) are spread in each time slot with a destination code. This spreading is applied for destination identification as opposed to signal information modulation. Each spreading signal is associated with a particular destination for a particular time slot. These spread signals are then combined on a code division bus. Output signals for retransmission to the destinations are recovered from the bus by application of despreading codes. Each despread signal has a destination code which appears in its individual time slot. In a variant code division multiplexed signals are directed to a destination by use of time slot interchanger to achieve time division switching to route the CDMA multiplexed channels.

  • Patent number: 6947399
Abstract: A next generation wireless data system and method for handoff from a node in a network is presented. The system includes a core network (CN) and a source and a target radio network subsystem (RNS). The interface between the RNSs is enhanced to reduce unnecessary relay of messaging through the CN and thus will reduce traversing delays as well as the resources utilized in message processing. Two separate methods are proposed for handing off the data traffic to the target RNS at the CN packet processing node. These methods are a multi-cast function that concurrently sends data to the source RNS and the target RNS, and a suspend/resume function which suspends the data flow towards the source RNS and resumes the flow towards the target RNS.

  • Patent number: 6940839
Abstract: The transmit power of a CDMA downlink channel is controlled from a base station by receiving a command signal from a mobile station requesting it to decrease the transmit power of the downlink channel. In response, the base station decreases the transmit power if a hypothetically decremented value of the transmit power is higher than a nominal lower limit of its power control range, and further decreases the transmit power if the downlink channel still has a quality higher than a specified value at the mobile station even when the hypothetically decremented value is lower than the nominal lower limit. The base station sets the transmit power equal to the nominal lower limit if the hypothetically decremented value is lower than the nominal lower limit and the downlink channel still has a quality higher than the specified value at the mobile station.

  • Patent number: 6928058
Abstract: In the non-node, the apparatus neither obtains a self physical_ID nor transmits a self_ID packet. Therefore, the apparatus is not recognized as a node in a self-identification phase. However, the apparatus transmits an indent_done signal received from a child node directly to a parent node. Moreover, when the apparatus becomes a route node in a tree identification phase in the non-node mode, after normal configuration, a PHY configuration packet output section outputs a PHY configuration packet for resetting an apparatus of another node as a route node. In a normal mode, the apparatus obtains a self phsycial_ID and transmits a self_ID packet. Therefore, the apparatus is recognized as a node in the self-identification phase.

  • Patent number: 6904036
Abstract: A time division duplex using code division multiple access base station receives a plurality of data signals in a time slot. Each data signal experiences a similar channel response. The base station receives a combined signal over the shared spectrum in a time slot. The combined signal comprises the plurality of data signals. The combined signal is sampled at a multiple of a chip rate of the combined signal. The similar channel response is estimated. A channel response matrix or a channel correlation matrix is constructed based on in part the estimated channel response. A spread data vector is determined based on in part a fast fourier transform (FFT) decomposition of a circulant version of the channel response or channel correlation matrix. The spread data vector is despread to recover data from the matrix.

  • Patent number: 6898209
Abstract: A method for assembling frames of a multiframe that calculates the value of an identifier for inclusion within each of the frames before the frames are transmitted at a transmitter clock rate. The amount of distinct values that the identifier can have is less than the amount of frames within the multiframe. This identifier is extracted from the frames in a receiver, and is used for determining a position in a temporary buffer having an amount of memory locations that is smaller than the amount of frames within the multiframe. The frames are read from positions in the temporary buffer for storage into subsequent locations into a multiframe buffer memory, irrespective of the value of the identifier. The receiver clock is synchronized with the transmitter clock.

  • Patent number: 6891805
Abstract: A multi-point communications system joins a series of communications units in a series chain while providing communications between and among all of the units. Each communication unit comprises a pair of frames, preferably operating under E1/T1 protocols connected in a back-to-back arrangement through the framers' local serial busses. Communication data is placed on and extracted from a designated set of channels on the serial busses while preamble data, controlling the passage and routing of the communications data, is placed on a separate set of bus channels. One of the interconnected communications units is designated as the “parent”, and provides supervisory control over communications data, timing and flow. Designation of the parent unit may be performed on a dynamic basis to allow the communications system to dynamically adapt to changes in system size as communications units are added or dropped.
