  • Patent number: 4948063
Abstract: A film cassette is disclosed wherein a film roll whose outermost convolution comprises a film leader is coiled about a spool rotatable within the cassette shell, a pair of flexible flanges are coaxially arranged on the spool to radially confine the film leader within respective skirted peripheries of the flanges to prevent the leader from substantially contacting an interior wall of the cassette shell, and a film stripper projecting from the interior wall is received between a leading end of the film leader and the next-inward convolution of the film roll to free successive sections of the leader from the flanges by inducing the leader to flex the flanges away from one another at their skirted peripheries responsive to rotation of the spool in a film unwinding direction.

  • Patent number: 4946113
Abstract: A wire reel carrier for use in stringing barbed wire for fencing is designed for attachment to a horizontal cargo rack of an all terrain vehicle. The wire reel carrier includes a pair of spaced frame rails secured by a plurality of clamps to the cargo rack. An elongated rod dimensioned for insertion through the hollow core of a wire roll extends transversely between the frame rails. A pair of retaining plates, each secured by a frictional collar, maintain the wire roll in correct orientation on the transverse rod. A pair of safety latches secure opposite ends of the rod to respective frame rails and include a safety mechanism for releasing the rod from the frame rails upon exertion of an excess force on the rod by a wire being strung from a roll supported on the rod. This prevents the occurrence of severe accidents and possible injury to the ATV operator upon tangling of the wire.

  • Patent number: 4944466
Abstract: A dispenser for rolls of flexible sheet material wound on cores is disclosed. The dispenser holds multiple rolls and includes guide tracks for guiding the rolls through the dispenser. A holding lever pivotably connected to each side of the dispenser selectively holds the rolls in position in the dispenser and has its pivoting motion controlled by a sensing plate which contacts a lower dispensing roll to sense when the sheet material is substantially depleted. The lower dispensing roll is always held out of contact with rollers of a dispensing mechanism. A shield is located between the roll surface of the lower dispensing roll and the rollers of the dispensing mechanism.

  • Patent number: 4944143
Abstract: The invention provides a means of controlling the speed of operation of a material processing apparatus, such as a ring spinning machine in a textile mill. The purpose of the invention is to allow high speed processing, while maintaining a high quality product. In the case of ring spinning for instance, the object is to reduce the incidence of yarn breakages. The method in accordance with the invention includes controlling the speed of operation during a total time for processing a finite quantity of the material, and including the use of an automatic control apparatus preset to change the speed of the driving motor in a series of very small increments throughout a speed change time which is a predetermined percentage of the total time, between two speeds, one of which is a predetermined optimum operating speed and the other of which is a predetermined percentage of the operating speed.

  • Patent number: 4943011
Abstract: A vehicle seat belt retractor with a tension-reducing mechanism comprises a main winding spring biasing a toothed wheel in the belt-winding direction and an auxiliary winding spring biasing the reel shaft relative to the wheel. The positions of a stopper pawl biased by an over-center spring are controlled by a clutch plate associated with the wheel such that the wheel is stopped by engagement by the pawl after the belt is pulled out and done up, the slack is allowed to be taken up, and the user pulls the belt out slightly, thereby establishing the reduced-tension state. The pawl is released from the wheel to restore the winding bias of the main spring by a releasing clutch ring if more than slightly less than one revolution of the reel is required to take up slack in the belt after the reduced-tension state is attained.

  • Patent number: 4938016
Abstract: A wire strand for reinforcing elastomers such as tires and conveyor belts comprises multiple individual filaments bundled in a core and an outer layer on a common axis. Each individual filament is tangential to all adjacent surrounding filaments and all filaments have identical lay direction and length in a hexagonally close-packed cross section, which is to say that the strand filaments are of bunched configuration. In accordance with the invention, the outer layer includes filaments of differing diameters so disposed with respect to each other and with respect to the filaments of the core that the outer edges of all filaments in the outer layer, viewed cross sectionally, lie substantially on a common radius from the strand axis.

  • Patent number: 4938429
Abstract: A film cassette is disclosed wherein a pair of annular constraining flanges are coaxially spaced on a film spool. The flanges radially confine the outermost convolution of a film roll wound on the spool to prevent the film roll from clock-springing against the cassette shell and thereby hindering film movement. A pair of internal cam members are rotatable from outside of the cassette shell to open a light lock by slightly separating opposite throat portions of the shell. Another pair of internal cam members are rotated with the first pair to flex a limited section of the flanges apart an axial distance sufficient to radially free a corresponding section of the outermost convolution. Then, rotation of the film spool will cause successive sections of the flanges to be momentarily flexed apart, and each freed section of the outermost convolution will be advanced automatically to the outside of the cassette shell.

  • Patent number: 4934576
Abstract: A planetary wire-feeding mechanism has a left and right driving roll with hyperboloid profiles in a housing made up of two equal left and right cylinders, with an axis of rotation coinciding with the geometric axis of the electrode wire. The two cylinders contact one another and are joined detachably. In each of them there is shaped semi-cylindrical seats having parts with a common axis perpendicular to the geometric axis of the electrode wire and disposed in the plane of contacts between the two cylindrical parts. In the semi-cylindrical seats there are mounted two identical units, disposed in opposite directions, each unit having a base and two opposite legs, the legs of the two oppositely disposed units being interdigitated when they are mounted within the housing. Such units constitute supporting-guiding components upon which they are disposed on the right and left driving rolls.

  • Patent number: 4934133
Abstract: To improve the efficiency of a rotating air layer produced by an air injection nozzle and rotating in a substantially cylindrical space, the rotating air layer being intended to rotate a twisted fiber structure introduced through an inlet duct, there is provided a tube extension at the inlet duct. This tube extension forms a guide for the air flow injected tangentially and at an inclination by the air injection nozzle with respect to the direction of travel of the twisted fiber structure. As a result of this guide, the rotating air layer can form before it engages or contacts the twisted fiber structure. As a result there is increased the rotation of the engaged twisted fiber structure per unit length thereof, resulting in increased strength of the twisted fiber structure and the yarn ultimately produced therefrom with low air consumption.
