  • Patent number: 6639621
Abstract: A scanner unit having an optical element supported by a supporting plate. The supporting plate includes a first engagement portion, first spring portions, a second spring portion and a second engagement portion. The first engagement portion engages protrusions of supporting pins that support a reflective surface of a beam detection mirror in a predetermined position. The first spring portions urge the beam detection mirror toward the supporting pins. The second spring portion urges an upper surface of the beam detection mirror and holds the mirror between a bottom plate and the second spring portion. The second engagement portion engages a flange to prevent the supporting plate from coming off upward against an urging force from the second spring portion.

  • Patent number: 6628909
Abstract: A method for aligning an endless belt having an optimum position within an acceptable range on associate guide rollers in a machine by manually placing the belt over an outboard end of the guide rollers and sliding the belt inward over the guide rollers to a first rough position. When it is determined that the belt has reached an acceptable range of positions, the belt is steered inward using a given operational steering angle. When it is determined that the belt has reached an optimum position, the belt is driven at an operational speed and steered inward and outward to maintain the optimum position.

  • Patent number: 6618572
Abstract: An apparatus and method for taking up the slack in the web material between the supply roller and the take-up roller in the web cleaning assembly of an electrophotographic apparatus. A clutch mechanism is positioned between the drive gear on the take-up roller and the hub of the motor that drives the drive gear. A spring-biased pawl on the hub engages a tooth of an inner gear on the drive gear to provide a driving connection between the hub and the take-up gear when the motor drives the hub in a first direction but effectively releases the driving connection when the take-up gear is manually rotated while the motor is idle. This allows the take-up roller to be rotated to take up the slack in the web without having to rotate the motor.

  • Patent number: 6618568
Abstract: An image fusing unit of a liquid electrophotographic unit for fusing an image developed by a developer which is a mixture of toner particles and liquid solvent and transferred onto a sheet of paper includes a charging portion installed on a transfer path of the paper for applying electric potential in a direction in which the toner is in close contact with the paper, a drying portion for drying the image by directly contacting and heating the paper, and a fusing portion for fixing the image to the paper by heating and pressing the paper. Thus, the efficiency of heat can be improved by drying in the direct contact method. Also, by closely pressing the toner against the paper prior to drying, the disadvantage according to the contact type drying method, that is, the toner adheres to a contact member, can be solved.

  • Patent number: 6608990
Abstract: A job ordering system for an image-forming machine that transfers an image onto a sheet at essentially the same time in which an inserter places an inserted sheet into a sheet output path. The image-forming machine has image-forming equipment, a sheet output path, and an inserter. The image-forming equipment transfers an image onto a sheet and provides the sheet to the sheet output path. The inserter places an inserted sheet onto the sheet output path at essentially the same time as the image-forming equipment transfers the image onto the sheet.
