Abstract: A network assembly and associated method for assigning an identification code to an electronic file includes a reference repository, an indexing unit linked with the reference repository, and an editing unit linked with the reference repository and the indexing unit. The reference repository receives the electronic file from a communications network, such as the Internet, and stores characteristic information associated with the electronic file. The indexing unit assigns and stores an identification code with respect to the characteristic information. The editing unit inserts the identification code to the electronic file in a format suitable for the electronic file. The network assembly further includes a review unit linked with the editing unit for reviewing the inserted identification code before dispatching the electronic file from the network assembly.

Abstract: A storage control apparatus comprises a first storage area and a second storage area. Data in the first storage area is stored according to a first data format, and a host computer can exchange data with it using data access commands of the first data format. Data in the second storage area is stored according to a second data format different from the first data format, and a host computer can exchange data with it using data access commands of the second data format. The storage control apparatus further comprises a data recording format conversion unit that is configured to convert and store data that is stored in the first storage area to the second storage area.

Abstract: A method of storing data including the steps of providing a first index of first location identifiers, a second index of second location identifiers and a dictionary data base of data items, wherein the first location identifiers are adapted to identify the location of second location identifiers in the second index and the second location identifiers are adapted to identify the location of data items in the dictionary data base, receiving data and separating the data into a plurality of data items and storing the data items in a main data base, whereby at least one of the data items is stored in the main data base as at least one first location identifier, which identifies at least one second location identifier, which identifies the or each data item in the dictionary data base.

Abstract: In a conventional client/server type image database for centralized management of image data, upon transmission of image as a search result from a server to a client, since it takes time for the client to display the image due to a network band, the image search cannot be always performed efficiently. Accordingly, in a client process, a feature amount is extracted from a search image, and the extracted feature amount is transmitted to a server process. Then, the result of search by the server process based on the feature amount and a GUID specifying the image database are received from the server process, and image data which is not cached in the client, is requested from the server process based on the search result and the GUID.

Abstract: A method for updating a master product attribute catalog database for consumer response modeling is provided. Data is received from at least one source of product data. A data integrity check is preformed on the received data. A reconciliation is performed between the received data and the master product attribute catalog. The reconciled received data is placed in a master product attribute catalog.

Abstract: A digital transmission method includes detecting a parameter of the transmission conditions, selecting a distribution of elementary coding step redundancies from a plurality of distributions of elementary coding step redundancies for which the global efficiency is equal to a target efficiency, performing a coding procedure including elementary coding steps with corresponding puncturing steps, and an interleaving step between the elementary coding steps, each of the elementary coding steps adding a redundancy by utilizing the distribution of elementary coding step redundancies, to a useful information to generate a coded information with a redundancy for a transmission, and performing a decoding procedure including elementary decoding steps, deinterleaving and depuncturing steps, and puncturing and interleaving steps corresponding to the elementary decoding steps to obtain an estimation of the useful information item.

Abstract: A system and computer implementable method for updating content on servers coupled to a network. The method includes updating an origin server with a version of files used to provide content, retrieving data that indicates an action to be performed on one or more cache servers in conjunction with updating the origin server, and performing the action to update entries in the one or more cache servers. Each entry in each cache server is associated with a subset of the content on the origin server and may include an expiration field and/or a time to live field. An example of a subset of content to which a cache entry may be associated is a Web page. Cache servers are not required to poll origin servers to determine whether new content is available. Cache servers may be pre-populated using push or pull techniques.

Abstract: A system for providing remote service to medical diagnostic systems is described that includes a field service unit connectable to an automated service facility via a network link. The field service unit is configured to compose service requests based upon a series or menu of predefined service modules or functions. The service request includes identification of a diagnostic system or facility of interest. The request is communicated to the automated service facility which verifies the request and executes the requested function. Data may be gathered from the diagnostic system or institution as well as from service databases. Results of the service operation are automatically transmitted to the requesting service unit.

Abstract: A method and an apparatus for managing a vast amount of file in a portable device. The file management apparatus of the portable device includes a disk engine which reads attribute information of a file recorded in a recording medium, an input unit which inputs a command for editing the stored attribute information, a controller which controls the portable device to record/reproduce the file corresponding to the read attribute information, and a display unit which displays the attribute information to allow an user to edit the attribute information. The attribute of the file recorded in the recording medium can be edited by an editing command, and each file is processed in accordance with the attribute information. Accordingly, the user can easily manage the vast amount of information.

The information is to be extracted by evaluating at least one mathematical function which operates on one or more selected calculation variables. Abstract: Aspects for allowing long term, update and edit control in a database system are described. The aspects include providing library control functions in a database system, and utilizing the library control functions via structured query language statements to ensure data integrity of opaque data types in the database system. Provision of the library control functions further includes providing a checkout function and creating a set of update and delete triggers in correspondence with the checkout function.

Abstract: An information retrieval system allows a user to navigate through a plurality of informational items for a desired informational item, and upon selection of an informational item, presents other informational items related to the selected informational item. The information retrieval system in accordance with the principles of the present invention maintains a database that defines a relational association between a plurality of informational items in the system. The relational association is based on historical navigational behavior of users of the information retrieval system, and includes a relationship type, which is based on the characteristic similarities between the informational items, and relationship strength, which is based on the historical frequency of any related informational items being selected by a user within the same information retrieval session.

Abstract: The present invention relates to phonetic self-improving search engines. The search engine may include a phonetic database having a plurality of phonetic equivalent formulas stored therein, each of the phonetic equivalent formulas being associated with at least one respective pronounceable unit. After an initial query in a primary database fails to produce a positive result, an error memory database may be queried with a search string to obtain a positive result based on records of previously failed searches which ultimately found a positive result. If no record is found, the search string may be parsed into at least one pronounceable unit. Phonetically equivalent formulas may be applied to the at least one pronounceable unit to create at least one phonetic search string which is re-queried into the error memory database and the primary database. Successful positive results may be stored with the search string in the error memory database.

Abstract: A method and system for optimizing response time for data query rankings and retrieval is provided. In response to a received search query that contains one or more terms, an information retrieval system identifies a candidate set of documents that match any of the terms. Terms are assigned a term weight making them more or less relevant in relation to other terms. A ranking logic defines score bins from a total score range based on possible matched term weights. A relationship is established that classifies a document into a score bin based on a sum of term weights from matched terms. Documents that match more term weights have higher total relevance scores than documents that match less term weights. The most relevant documents are retrievable without having to retrieve the entire set of candidate documents and without having to compute total relevance scores for all the candidate documents.

The transacted variable is associated with a specific transaction such that actions on the underlying object of the transacted variable do not affect the contents of the transacted variable unless the actions are carried out in the context of the specific transaction associated with the transacted variable. Furthermore, the transacted variable allows for actions to be taken in the context of its specific associated transaction irrespective of an active transaction.

Abstract: Techniques to manage a file are described. An apparatus may comprise a file system interface for a client to receive a request for a file having a file name. The client may generate a unique identifier for the file name in response to the request using a stream cone messaging system, with the unique identifier to represent the file name and comprising a fewer number of bits than the file name. An interconnect system connected to the client may communicate the unique identifier and file name to the server. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

Abstract: A system is provided to support dynamically changeable virtual mapping schemes in a data processing system. The present invention separates processing of data unit requirements from the selection of which storage subsystems to use for storage by using a storage methodologies inventory. A stored data management subsystem contains one or more hosts. A plurality of data storage elements is functionally coupled to the one or more hosts. The plurality of data storage elements is organized using a plurality of layers of mapping tables. The plurality of layers of mapping tables provides unique identification of location of the data such that individual data entries in a mapping table is variable and self-defining with respect to the amount of data managed.

Abstract: Systems, methods and computer program products for storing data from multiple clients in a database include a Multi-thread Shared Memory message Queue Buffer (MSMQB) that includes multiple First-In First-Out (FIFO) queues, a respective one of which is associated with a respective one of the clients. The MSMQB is configured to store sequential bursts of data records that are received from the clients in the associated FIFO queues. A Semi-Merge Sort Module (SMSM) is configured to sort the sequential bursts in the FIFO queues based on the primary key of at least one selected record but not every record, to produce a semi-sorted record stream for serially stored in the database.
