  • Patent number: 8051172
Abstract: A communication system issues tokens in order to control communication received by the system. The tokens are arbitrary symbols which are stored in one or more Token Logs (TLs) for future reference. Those to whom the tokens are issued use specific tokens by including them in messages sent to the token issuer. The communication systems belonging to the potential token users record tokens which they have been issued, so that those tokens may be included in subsequent communication to the token issuers. Incoming messages without tokens are given a tokenless status and possibly rejected. Token-request tokens are automatically issued to allow other individuals to request tokens which can be used in subsequent communication. Multiple Token Logs are synchronized across multiple devices.

  • Patent number: 8037187
Abstract: The present invention provides a solution for resource sharing (e.g., inter-Cloud) within a Cloud-computing environment. One objective of the present invention is to better utilize idle public or private Cloud infrastructures and improve the availability of Cloud services by allowing different Cloud service providers to virtually combine their services and infrastructures. In the event that there is not enough capacity for a single Cloud service provider to manage its workload, the workload may be shifted to additional infrastructures within the Cloud. The result of the workload shift may reduce the unavailability of Cloud services to the Cloud end-user by allowing another Cloud service provider to temporarily handle the workload. Based on the resource sharing activities, compensation (e.g., credits/tokens) can be exchanged between the participating Cloud providers to reflect their participation in the resource exchange.

  • Patent number: 8010693
Abstract: The invention increases performance of a browser over long-latency links by smart pre-fetching of selective objects to increasing the level of concurrency in subsequent operations. A Web browser with a pre-fetch agent can speed up Internet transactions from the browser over long-latency data links. This agent can help determine the order of fetching objects in such a way that an object is ready and available locally before the resident browser requires it. The seemingly instantaneous availability of objects to a browser enables it to complete processing the object to request the next object without much wait. Without this instantaneous availability of an embedded object, a browser waits for its request and the corresponding response to traverse a long delay link.

  • Patent number: 7996502
Abstract: In one embodiment, a method includes determining to change a number of objects controlled by a particular node in a network. Each object is a resource provided by the network and has a unique object position in a coordinate space of N dimensions. Each node has a unique node position in the coordinate space of N dimensions. Each node controls operation of objects in a control set of zero or more objects which are closest to the node using an agreed definition of scalar distance between two positions. A different N+1 dimension from the N dimensions is added. The N+1 dimension has a zero value for the plurality of objects. A particular value is determined for the N+1 dimension for the particular node such that a change in a number of objects in a particular control set of the particular node is not greater than a threshold change.

  • Patent number: 7996504
Abstract: A method of updating routing tables stored at a multiplicity of Signaling End Points (SEPs) of an SS7 over IP signaling network following the introduction of a new SEP into the network. The new SEP sends a message to an existing SEP, the message identifying an IP address and SS7 address(es) of the new SEP. The existing SEP adds the IP address and SS7 address(es) of the new SEP to the routing table(s) stored at the existing SEP, and forwards the message to other SEPs identified in the routing table(s) at the existing SEP. The other SEPs add the IP address and SS7 address(es) of the new SEP to their routing tables. Each SEP that receives the message sends a response message to the new SEP containing the IP and SS7 addresses of the responding SEP, and the new SEP populates its routing table(s) using the contents of the response messages.

  • Patent number: 7984132
Abstract: Wireless communications devices, e.g., peer to peer mobile wireless terminals in and ad-hoc peer to peer communications network, support multiple modes of peer discovery operation. In different peer discovery transmit modes peer discovery information is transmitted at different rates. In different peer discovery receive modes peer discovery information is monitored at different rates. Performing peer discovery operations at a higher rate has the benefit of reducing discovery latency at the cost of utilizing more communications resources and expending more power. A communications device dynamically changes its mode in response to changing conditions and/or needs. Transitions between modes are in response to a determined change condition trigger occurrence. Various change condition triggers include, e.g., a user event, an application event, information received over the air interface, information derived from information received over the air interface and/or temporal information.
