  • Patent number: 11546489
Abstract: Systems and methods manage information relating to paper media to enhance the quality of printing by printers. Systems and methods efficiently maintain color management profiles for different papers and ensure that the most appropriate (e.g., optimal) color management profile is employed for color conversion on a specific paper. In particular, embodiments may employ dynamic management of data stored in paper catalogs of printing systems. As such, a paper catalog of a printer can effectively associate a paper with a color management profile that provides the best possible color reproduction on that paper.

  • Patent number: 11509795
Abstract: An auto-rotation module having a single-layer neural network on a user device can convert a document image to a monochrome image having black and white pixels and segment the monochrome image into bounding boxes, each bounding box defining a connected segment of black pixels in the monochrome image. The auto-rotation module can determine textual snippets from the bounding boxes and prepare them into input images for the single-layer neural network. The single-layer neural network is trained to process each input image, recognize a correct orientation, and output a set of results for each input image. Each result indicates a probability associated with a particular orientation. The auto-rotation module can examine the results, determine what degree of rotation is needed to achieve a correct orientation of the document image, and automatically rotate the document image by the degree of rotation needed to achieve the correct orientation of the document image.

  • Patent number: 11474767
Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for locally printing a print job generated by a remote web services platform. It may be that a local computer and an application of the remote web services platform that generates the print job lack a bidirectional communications link (like a VPN connection). A printer service on the web services platform presents itself as a printer to an application on the web services platform. The printer service receives a print job from the application and transmits it to a client-side print service. The client print service then sends the print job to a local printer.

  • Patent number: 11477349
Abstract: A laser engraving apparatus (100) is calibrated using a number of predetermined calibration images (12). The calibration images (12) are engraved on a predefined substrate surface (14, 15) of a substrate (16) by varying only a single laser parameter. Based on measured colour values of the engraved calibration images, a relationship between said colour values and a predefined laser parameter value, for example, a predefined laser power, is established. This relationship is then used to generate a map for mapping a grayscale value of an input image to a grayscale value of an output image, which is then engraved on the substrate (16) while varying the same laser parameter that was varied during the calibration.

  • Patent number: 11453223
Abstract: A method for closed-loop color control in printing machines using a computer includes initially coating a printing substrate with opaque white to set up closed-loop color control in the course of a print job, subsequently applying process colors and, in the process, color measurement strips onto the opaque white, recording the opaque white and the color measurement strips using a measuring device, and, based on data recorded by the measuring device, performing closed-loop color control for process colors and opaque white using the computer. The measuring device is an inline measuring device and is initially calibrated at a fixed position of the printing substrate, then the application of opaque white is adjusted and, when a deviation stays below a maximum deviation, closed-loop control of both the opaque white and the process colors is done using the computer by taking measurements in the color control strip.
