  • Patent number: 5581363
Abstract: A method and apparatus for recording and reproducing a video signal which enables the provision of a VTR which is reduced in noise, lowered in power consumption, and can be used at a high magnetic permeability, wherein the diameter of the rotary drum and the wrap angle of the magnetic tape on the rotary drum are left unchanged, but the rotational speed of the rotary drum is halved and the number of magnetic heads disposed at the rotary drum are doubled and recording is performed by time expansion by a factor of k of the recording data rate of the video signal. Since the rotational speed of the rotary drum is halved, the noise is reduced and the power consumed by the motor and the rest of the drive system for driving the rotation of the rotary drum is lowered. In addition, the recording data rate is lowered, so use may be made of magnetic heads with high magnetic permeability characteristics.

  • Patent number: 5557417
Abstract: Apparatus for adjusting a digital signal which is subjected to analog processing after being reproduced from a record medium includes a digital test signal source, a loop including DAC and ADC for circulating the digital test signal therethrough a predetermined number of times, a detector for detecting changes in the test signal after having been circulated through the loop, and adjustment means having adjustment values set in response to the detected changes so as to adjust predetermined characteristics of a digital video signal that subsequently may be reproduced from the record medium, thereby minimizing changes and degradations in the reproduced digital video signal that otherwise would be caused by the analog processing.

  • Patent number: 5548410
Abstract: An analog-cum-digital video recording and reproducing device which can perform recording and reproduction of HDTV digital signals as well signals as well as recording and reproduction of VHS analog signals is disclosed. The device has separate recording and reproduction processing systems for processing HDTV digital signals and VHS analog signals, digital recording and reproduction heads, and analog recording and reproduction heads, which can perform selective recording and reproduction of HDTV digital video signals and VHS analog video signals on or from a VHS tape by controlling running of the tape and rotation of the head drum to speeds appropriate to the respective signal processing system. It further allows use of an existing VHS or S-VHS tape for recording and reproduction of analog or digital video signals by providing means for interchangeable reproduction of an existing VHS tape, which allows recording of the high quality HDTV signals on a 1/2" VHS tape.
