  • Patent number: 8917309
Abstract: A system, apparatus, and method for relaying video information that is part of a multi-party video communication session having multiple endpoints. The server can receive multiple video information streams from multiple endpoints and re-transmit some or all of the video information streams to the endpoints with one or more of the video information steams identified as having active status and being decoded at high resolution at the endpoints, while transmitting key frames from video information streams not having active status. Upon switching active speaker status to a new video information stream, the endpoints, already having a key frame from the switched-to video information, can switch to decoding the new video information stream having active status at high resolution without delay.

  • Patent number: 8638353
Abstract: Some embodiments provide an architecture for establishing multi-participant video conferences. This architecture has a central distributor that receives video images from two or more participants. From the received images, the central distributor generates composite images that the central distributor transmits back to the participants. Each composite image includes a set of sub images, where each sub image belongs to one participant. In some embodiments, the central distributor saves network bandwidth by removing each particular participant's image from the composite image that the central distributor sends to the particular participant. In some embodiments, images received from each participant are arranged in the composite in a non-interleaved manner. For instance, in some embodiments, the composite image includes at most one sub-image for each participant, and no two sub-images are interleaved.

  • Patent number: 8614736
Abstract: A method for presenting a reason prompt for a video call failure includes: acquiring, by a network-side entity, a value of reason for a video call failure determined by an originating switch, with which a calling terminal is communicated; determining a reason prompt corresponding to the value of the reason for the video call failure; and presenting the reason prompt to the calling terminal. An embodiment of the present disclosure further provides a device for presenting a reason prompt for a video call failure and an originating switch apparatus. Reason prompts for video call failures can be updated dynamically at the network side, thereby guaranteeing the accuracy of reason prompts for video call failures presented to a calling subscriber, and improving the experience of the subscriber. Meanwhile, the operator can update a reason prompts for a video call failure in time, and the flexibility in operation at the operator side is enhanced.

  • Patent number: 8593500
Abstract: A video conference (VC) device for communicating with VC terminals includes a VC box and a set-top box (STB). The VC box includes a VC controller module, a media stream receiver module, and a decoder module. When a session is established between one of the VC terminals and the VC box, the VC controller detects if the decoder module is available. When the decoder module is available, the media stream receiver module receives a media stream sent from the VC terminal and transmits the media stream to the decoder module, and the decoder module processes the media stream to generate corresponding video and audio signals for the session. When the decoder module is unavailable, the media stream receiver module transmits the media stream to the STB, and the STB processes the media stream to generate corresponding video and audio signals for the session.
