  • Patent number: 4750868
Abstract: A pump with a continuous inflow and a pulsating outflow comprises a first chamber and a second chamber with a passage between them and made at least partly from a flexible material. There is an inlet to the first chamber and an outlet from the second chamber. The passage between the chambers has a one-way valve permitting flow only in a direction from the first to the second chamber. A second one-way valve located at the outlet permits flow only in a direction out of the second chamber. The chambers are movably supported in a pump casing having a first and a second opening. The inlet is connected to and penetrates the first opening, and the outlet is connected to and penetrates the second opening. A drive arrangement reduces the volume of the second chamber to expel the pumped medium while simultaneously enabling the walls of the first chamber to increase the volume and permit the pumped medium to flow through the inlet into the first chamber.

  • Patent number: 4746279
Abstract: The hose pump has plates forming the first pressure members and limbs which form second pressure members and which are actuated by the plates. The limbs are fastened at one end to a base plate, in such a way that second portions formed at the other ends are parallel to and near one another and the surfaces, facing one another, of the middle portions are inclined towards one another, in order to move the limbs to-and-fro by means of the projections of the plate. By means of resilient elements which on the one hand rest against webs in the frame and on the other hand against the plate, the plate is held in contact with the drive. As a result of these measures, the efficiency and the effect of the hose pump can be improved.

  • Patent number: 4738336
Abstract: A controlled replenishing lubrication system provides a desired supply of oil to a rolling element bearing by monitoring the changes in the rolling element ball retainer to shaft speed ratio. This ratio is a function of elastohydrodynamic oil film thickness between elements of the bearing. Changes in the speed ratio are monitored by a sensor and fed to a control system which commands a pump to inject oil into the bearing when the speed ratio varies from a predetermined limit. The rolling elements are moveably mounted for rotation within a retainer or cage in a bearing housing. The retainer includes a light reflective indicia. A shaft is rotatably connected to rotate the retainer and the rolling elements. The shaft also includes a light reflective indicia. The sensor is mounted on or adjacent the bearing for simultaneously emitting light toward the retainer and shaft indicia for sensing variations in reflection of the light therefrom and for generating pulses to the control system responsive to the variations.

  • Patent number: 4722652
Abstract: A vane type pump suitable for a hydraulic system comprises passages communicating with the underside of the vanes in the inlet quadrant with the surrounding of the drive shaft and passages communicating the underside of the vanes in the discharge quadrant with the discharge chamber, thereby the underside of the vanes can act as a set of additional little pumps while being ineffective at zero pressure. The undervane pressure in the inlet quadrant can be tested and adjusted at any time during the operation by a manometer and an auxiliary valve. The vane type pump in accordance with the present invention is adapted to various viscosities of fluid such as 1-38 cst, 50.degree. C., and it is possible to work at negative pressure without keeping the reservoir a certain relative height and without replacing the inner component. The pump works at a high volumetric efficiency and total efficiency all the time.

  • Patent number: 4718827
Abstract: An improvement in automotive fuel pump assemblies of the type including a tubular cylindrical housing, an electric motor in the housing and a pump in the housing driven by the armature of the motor. The pump includes a first pump body adjacent a flux ring of the motor, a second pump body between the first pump body and the end of the tubular housing, and an impeller in a cavity between the pump bodies. The improvement resides in the provision of axially extending grooves in outer cylindrical surfaces of the pump bodies which register in only a single predetermined angular positional relationship of the pump bodies and in the provision of spring clips which fit in the registered grooves to maintain the predetermined positional relationship and to unitize the pump bodies for efficient handling prior to insertion in the tubular housing.

  • Patent number: 4717317
Abstract: The reciprocating pump is provided with a sleeve between the piston and the casing. The sleeve is disposed in spaced relation to define an annular gap both with respect to the piston and with respect to the casing. The sleeve is also biased by a spring into sealing engagement with the end wall of the casing. The end of the sleeve adjacent to the spring provides a permanent connection between the gap between the casing and sleeve and the pressure medium used to drive the piston of the pump so that the same pressure prevails on the inside and outside surfaces of the sleeve.

  • Patent number: 4715789
Abstract: A valve assembly for controlling discharge of hydraulic fluid from a high pressure hydraulic fluid container to a hydraulic fluid reservoir and including a valve body having a valve bore, a fluid inlet port communicating with the valve bore on one side of a valve seat, and a fluid outlet port communicating with the valve bore on an opposite side of the valve seat. A valve spool is housed in the valve bore and includes a valve member selectively engageable with the valve seat to prevent hydraulic fluid flow through the valve bore. The valve member is selectively biased against the valve seat by a valve piston housed in a valve cylinder, the valve piston being operably connected to the valve member such that hydraulic fluid pressure in the valve cylinder biases the valve member toward the valve seat.

  • Patent number: 4712983
Abstract: A pneumatic pump has provision for being driven by a conventional electric hand drill and chuck that are un-modified so that they can be detached by loosening the chuck jaws and used for other purposes. The provision includes first and second input shafts protruding at right angles to each other and connected by a bevel gear on each. In addition to improving drive access, to provide a choice of drive ratios, the bevel gears have different diameters. The rotary output of the shaft and bevel gear arrangement drives a reciprocating piston in a cylinder that, in association with check valves and a hose connection, can inflate a pneumatic tire, at a speed and to a pressure, determined by which drive ratio is chosen. The drill can be freely swiveled about either input shaft to which attached. A gauge indicates cylinder pressure. A frame permits the assembly of drive and pump to be used to pressurize a tank for storage of compressed air.

  • Patent number: 4704071
Abstract: An apparatus and method for raising liquids from one level to a higher level by means of a centrifugal pump operating in air for minimum drag, is described. A sealed tank is half filled with liquid and the remaining space is subjected to an externally applied pressure, thereby raising the liquid in a tank exit tube to a height determined solely by the pressure in the tank. Further liquid is introduced into the tank, against the pressure therein, by means of a rotating inlet tube provided with a plurality of radially extending exit tubes which rotate about a vertical axis in the air space above the liquid in the tank. The inlet tube is rotated by means of an electric or other power source located either internally or externally of the tank.
