  • Patent number: 5982758
Abstract: In a code division multiple access (CDMA) spread spectrum cellular communication system in which a mobile station user communicates with another system user via at least one base station, wherein each base station transmits a common pilot signal of a different PN offset with respect to other base stations in said system, a method for merging neighbor lists to account for false indications of signal strength due to topography. The merged list, included as part of the Neighbor List Update Message, is arrived at by first measuring pilot signal strengths and phase delays received by the mobile station and reporting this information to the mobile telephone switching office. At the mobile telephone switching office, pilots whose phase delay indicates a large round trip delay time are ignored in subsequent calculations. Then a neighbor list union is generated as the union of all predetermined neighbor lists corresponding to said received pilot signals.

  • Patent number: 5982759
Abstract: A method for generating dummy frequencies to make frequency hard handover smooth in provision of a digital CDMA mobile communication service when base stations are different in frequency configuration. The coverage of each of the dummy frequencies becomes the same as that of a service frequency using basic signals of the service frequency. According to the present invention, a pilot channel signal, a sync channel signal, a paging channel signal and traffic channel signals of the service frequency are placed directly on each of the dummy frequencies. Therefore, the coverage of the dummy frequency can always become the same as that of the service frequency which is varied according to a traffic amount of the base station, so that a mobile station can perfectly perform the frequency hard handover. Further, one power combiner, one power amplifier and one power divider are provided to process all of the dummy frequencies.

  • Patent number: 5903551
Abstract: Disclosed are methods for acquiring a forward channel in a point-to-multipoint CDMA system. One method includes the steps of (a) despreading a received CDMA signal with a first pn code that is known to be present in the received CDMA signal and obtaining a first measure of received signal level; (b) despreading the received CDMA signal with a second pn code that is known not to be present in the received CDMA signal and obtaining a second measure of received signal level; and (c) synchronizing to a desired channel using a difference between the first and second signal levels. In this method the first step of despreading despreads a continuously transmitted side-channel, and the step of synchronizing synchronizes to the side-channel. Also, the step of obtaining a first measure of received signal level obtains a correlation peak, and the step of obtaining a second measure of received signal level obtains a correlation null.

  • Patent number: 5870383
Abstract: The need for manual verification of service on a desired cross-connect in a cross-connect system prior to provisioning may be eliminated by modifying the logic of the cross-connect system to take account of an internal indication characteristic of whether service is present on the cross-connect. Upon receipt of a NORMAL command, the cross-connect system only executes the command to disconnect the cross-connect when no service is present. However, upon receipt of a FORCED command, the cross-connect system executes the command to disconnect the cross-connect irrespective of the existence of any service thereon. Moreover, in response to an indication of service and denial of the NORMAL command, a FORCE command may be issued instead to effect disconnection of the cross-connection with such disconnection is desired irrespective of the existence of service thereon.

  • Patent number: 5864536
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for adapting a transmission bit rate of each individual one of a plurality of connections to an available bit rate capacity in a data multiplexer operating according to an asynchronous transfer mode includes storage in memory of a total available bit rate for all of the connections. An actual bit rate of all of the connections together is continuously ascertained. A difference between the available bit rate and the actual bit rate is continuously calculated. A number of those connections without underloading is continuously ascertained. A continuous recursive calculation of a current fair share value from the former fair share value, of a number of connections without underloading, and of a difference between the available and the actual bit rate, is performed. The fair share value is written in resource management cells, if the current fair share value is less than the value already contained in the resource management cells.
