Patent number: 4627684Abstract: Upper and lower molded polymeric housing portions are coupled together to form a closed housing. Each housing portion has an end wall, the end wall of one having openings for a power receptacle and the end wall of the other having either knock-outs to form openings for a power receptacle or knock-outs to form openings for communication connectors. A hook and groove arrangement permits the housing portions to be coupled together and moved between open and closed positions. The housing is especially useful with flat cable in an under-carpet wiring system.Type: GrantFiled: July 23, 1984Date of Patent: December 9, 1986Assignee: Harvey Hubbell IncorporatedInventor: Michael J. Patent number: 4621958Abstract: A boring block and tool holder is disclosed having an opening therein. The block is made of a thick rectangular plate having inserts set into its front corners and inclined surfaces adjacent its rear edge forming a noncircular tang part having two rearwardly facing shoulders adjacent the tang portion which is received in a slot in a boring bar. The shape of the slot is complimentary to the shape of the tang part of the block. A tapered hole through the tang aligns with a tapered hole in the boring bar and the tapered hole in the block receives a taper pin which forces the block rearward bringing the block into firm rigid relationship with the end of the bar thereby clamping the block in positive rigid relation to the bar. The block has more strength than previous blocks because the block is thicker below the cutting inserts and there is more metal below the cutting insert, yet it can use the same bar and same slot width as rectangular blocks.Type: GrantFiled: November 29, 1984Date of Patent: November 11, 1986Inventor: Harry R. Patent number: 4614399Abstract: A splicing device is disclosed wherein the conductor and steel support cable portions of an aerial drop wire are each spliced utilizing a single device which is electrically insulated and weather-resistant and has a central member and end caps separable therefrom. The ends of the steel support cable are joined together by a wire linking device integrally molded in the central body and the conductors are spliced together by button-blade terminals driven into conductor-receiving cavities within the same body becoming locked in place. The risk of environmental damage is eliminated by the end caps which protect the stripped portions of the conductors, as well as by the unitary body construction of the central member which provides a sealed environment for the splices themselves.Type: GrantFiled: July 23, 1984Date of Patent: September 30, 1986Assignee: AT&T Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Richard J. Patent number: 4613196Abstract: An improved electrical connector for terminating a low current multi-wire telephone cord of the like is comprised of a one piece dielectric housing having a cord receiving aperture with a plurality of terminal receiving slots extending between the aperture and a first or top exterior surface of the connector. The connector includes a recess operatively associated with the slots and extending from the aperture toward the exterior surface of the connector opposite the first or top exterior surface. Individual terminal blades of simplified configuration are positioned within the slots and have a wire contact portion adapted to pass through the longitudinal plane of the aperture into the recess. As the terminals are pressed into the housing for making electrical contact with the wires of the cord, they engage the wires of the cord and bend the wires out of the plane of the aperture and into the recess while simultaneously providing the requisite electrical contact.Type: GrantFiled: May 13, 1983Date of Patent: September 23, 1986Assignee: Jane G. Patent number: 4611879Abstract: A modular construction of an interface board for mounting electrical connectors comprises a plurality of interlocked modular blocks on which the connectors are mounted. Each side face of each block comprises one or more sets of locking elements which engage with a mirror-image set of locking elements on another of said blocks to prevent relative lateral motion between the blocks or structures. Motion of the blocks or structures away from each other, in a direction normal to their mated side faces, is prevented by providing a tapered mortise in each of said side faces, the adjacent mortises of adjacent interlocked blocks or structures being in mutually confronting, aligned relationship to each other so that the tenons of a double dovetail wedge can be inserted into both mortises simultaneously to hold them in fixed position.Type: GrantFiled: July 31, 1984Date of Patent: September 16, 1986Assignee: Dill Products IncorporatedInventor: Peter H. Patent number: 4597626Abstract: The subject key block arrangement eliminates the need for modifying connectors or circuit boards and functions to prevent a connector having a width greater than a predetermined size from being inserted into certain positions in the circuit pack carrier. This is accomplished by an L-shaped key block which is attached to the backplane of the carrier. The upright portion of the key block in combination with the existing card guides on the carrier present a predefined aperture into which only connectors of a matching size will fit. Connectors of greater width are blocked from being inserted into connector positions equipped with the key block. Thus, standard connectors, circuit boards and carriers can be used without modification. The key block is inexpensive to manufacture and requires only minimum labor to install in an existing carrier.Type: GrantFiled: September 27, 1984Date of Patent: July 1, 1986Inventors: Larry J. Gabbard, Henry J. Gorenz, Jr.
