  • Patent number: 6304259
Abstract: A computer system and method implement a number of unique user interface mechanisms to visually link information presented to a user and thereby facilitate user comprehension of the contextual relationship of such information. Information may be visually linked by displaying a connector element that extends between first and second windows displayed on a computer display. In addition, information may be visually linked by applying one or more filter criteria to information elements and displaying the results. For example, first and second filter criteria may be applied to a plurality of information elements, with at least portions of the resulting sets of filtered information elements displayed concurrently. As another example, a filter criteria may be applied to an information element, with the filtered and unfiltered representations of the information element displayed concurrently.

  • Patent number: 6037937
Abstract: The system and method consistent with the present invention provides improved graphical navigation tool for electronic devices. The graphical navigation tools may be used to navigate through documents at any direction at varying speeds. The navigation tool is preferably transparent to prevent obscuring the text of the underlying document. Accordingly, the navigational tool does not take up additional screen real estate. The GUI of the present invention may be especially useful in portable electronic devices with small displays.

  • Patent number: 6014140
Abstract: A method and system for locating and displaying the actual position of a cursor contained within a predetermined selectable segment of a compound document within a graphical user interface environment within a data-processing system wherein only a portion of the predetermined selectable segment can be displayed at one time. In response to user input, the graphical user interface dynamically moves to the relative location of a predetermined selectable segment of a compound document wherein a cursor is located. Next, if the cursor is not located within a viewable portion of the graphical user interface, the graphical user interface automatically scrolls within the predetermined selectable segment to a relative location of the cursor within the predetermined selectable segment. Thereafter, a portion of the predetermined selectable segment wherein the cursor is located is displayed within the graphical user interface.

  • Patent number: 5889520
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and article of manufacture for displaying a multi-tiered network configuration in a programming development environment supporting the development of Internet and Intranet applications. More specifically, a topological view of a multi-tier network configuration displayed in a window on a display screen connected to a computer. A visual representation is assigned to each application file in each tier to graphically represent the application file in the display window. Also, the visual representations for each tier are displayed in a designated portion of the display window.

  • Patent number: 5831618
Abstract: Hierarchically layered tables are stored in a mass memory. Each table has entries containing a symbol of a telecommunication network item, location data of the symbol to be displayed in a display unit, and an identifier specifying a lower-layer table. A pointing device is used for selecting an symbol being displayed corresponding to a symbol of an upper layer table. A relocation processor is responsive to a keyboard command for detecting a given entry of the upper layer table that contains the selected symbol, reading information from all entries of a lower layer table specified by the given entry of the upper-layer table, securing a space around the selected symbol using the location data of the read information, and storing it into that entry of the upper layer table. A display processor displays, in the second space, multiple symbols stored in the given entry of the upper layer table.

  • Patent number: 4841468
Abstract: A high-speed digital multiplier architecture is implemented in a bipolar very large scale integrated circuit technology. Operand input and product output latches are independently enabled by inverted clock signals. The multiplier can be operated in unclocked, separately clocked and single clock or master-slave modes of operation. The multiplier can be operated to concatenate, rather than multiply, the operands and thereby load the operands directly from the inputs to the output. A selectable format adjust performs a one bit left shift on the product. A low order zero bit is inserted in the shifted product, an overflow flag is set in case the product is -1.0.times.-1.0=1.0, and rounding is correct for both adjusted and unadjusted products. A zero flag is provided which is correct for both rounded and unrounded output products. A negative flag provides an unambiguous indicator of product sign in signed and mixed mode or format adjusted operation.
