The official data may be sent to an official database. When a public health issue arises, such as an occurrence of mad cow disease, the government may use an identifier for a diseased animal or a location identifier to request a trace report from the data trustee. The data trustee may then use the official data to provide a report showing, for example, which animals have comingled with the diseased animal. Based on this report, other sick or potentially sick animals can be treated, quarantined, or slaughtered.

    Abstract: A system and method is shown for processing animals, such as calves, from birth to slaughter by utilizing hot-fed rations during the feeding process. The system and method reduces or eliminates the need to use hormones and simultaneously reduces or eliminates the need to sterilize the meat products. Each calf or animal is weaned at a weaning station, fed at a feeding station, slaughtered at a slaughter station to provide a carcass that is substantially the same size as other carcasses for the same breed of animal processed in the system. The consistent carcass size enables manufacture of consistent carcasses which, in turn, facilitates providing substantially the same size meat cuts. This feature enables use of a standard-size packaging, such as a case-ready package, which may be shipped for display and purchase at a store.

A flap, which has a tapered contour corresponding to the through-way, is disposed within the through-way and is capable of a locked position and an unlocked position. When in the locked position, the flap denies access to the through-way. When unlocked, the flap grants an animal access to the through-way. The flap is locked and unlocked by way of a locking mechanism that shifts the flap longitudinally between the less tapered and most tapered portions of the through-way. The locking mechanism shifts the flap in response to the receiver.

    Abstract: In poultry slaughterhouses, birds arrive in batches. Birds are delivered in holders (2), are unloaded and are connected to carriers (14). The birds are then introduced into the slaughterhouse and slaughtered, after which further processing take place. The supply is variable over the course of time. However, the slaughtering is a continuous process. The present invention evens out the supply variability, so that a uniform stream of birds which is well matched to the continuous process in the slaughterhouse is obtained. A conveyor device (8, 9) having a controllable speed is positioned between the point at which the birds are unloaded from the holders and the point at which the birds are connected to a carrier. The speed of this conveyor device is controlled in such a manner that the number of birds which leaves the conveyor device is substantially uniform. It is also possible to control the speed of unloading.

Alternatively, both shearing and sliding forces are applied. In one embodiment the shell is placed parallel to the angle of taper of the tip for opening. When the plunger comes down it exerts by frictional shearing force on the shell which causes the halves to slide off each other and open providing access to the inside.
