  • Patent number: 5918868
Abstract: A fixturing device, usable with various fixturing components as a universal modular fixturing system, has a slot and a shaft, the slot and the shaft intersecting and having a common plane of symmetry, the fixturing device having a plurality of transverse bores intersecting the slot and the shaft, perpendicular to the plane of symmetry. The fixturing device is used according to one or more of three clamping techniques. The first clamping technique is back-clamping in which a workpiece having a threaded recess is clamped by a bolt from the back of the slot. The second clamping technique is relocatable clamping in which a clamp support supporting a clamp clamping a workpiece is displaceable along the shaft. The third technique is lever-arm clamping in which a lever arm, pivotally mounted on a pin located in one of the transverse bores, is rotated to clamp a workpiece.

  • Patent number: 5735514
Abstract: An indexing apparatus for indexing an article about an axis. The indexing apparatus is adapted to be removably attached to the article and is constructed to axially displace the article along the axis to a disengaged position upon the initial application of a rotary force to an indexing assembly housed within the indexing apparatus. When in the disengaged position, the article can be selectively rotated about the axis by the further application of rotary force to the indexing assembly so that the article may be positioned in a predetermined angular position. The indexing apparatus further includes locking pins for locking the article in a plurality of predetermined angular positions when the application of rotational force to the indexing assembly is discontinued.

  • Patent number: 5718422
Abstract: A workpiece indexing and clamping system for machining the workpiece. Spherical or narrow cylindrical heads of index pins extend from holes in a base plate into workpiece holes to align and index the workpiece. The pin portions in the base plate holes can be expanded to lock them to the base plate. Each pin has relief flats parallel to the pin axis. Clamps engage workpiece edges with thread-like angled grooves on a cam surface to force workpiece edges against the base plate during machining of the workpiece. A central clamp has a pin extending from the base plate into a workpiece hole. Angled grooves in a cam surface are brought into contact with the hole sides to force the workpiece toward the base plate and hold the central area in place during machining.

  • Patent number: 5711515
Abstract: A workpiece support for a vise which is used for clamping a small workpiece on the vise and which can solve the problem that the prior art workpiece support has not versatility in clamping workpieces of various different configurations. In the workpiece support, a magnet is detachably mounted in a support plate and the support plate is fixedly attracted to a jaw plate of the vise through the magnet. Therefore, by forming a step in one side of the support plate along an edge and mounting the magnet in the support plate in a reversible manner, any one surface of the workpiece support can be selected as an attraction surface and the workpiece support can be used in many various forms depending on the workpiece configurations.

  • Patent number: 5692738
Abstract: A work fixture brake includes a first block and a second block and a brake disc. The first block has a first axis of rotation passing therethrough and a first friction pad fixed thereto. The second block is axially juxtaposed the first block and is pivotably connected thereto at a second axis of rotation offset from the first axis of rotation. A second friction pad is rotatively fixed to the second block. A brake disc has a first side facing the first friction pad and an oppositely disposed second side facing the second friction pad. The brake disc is approximately centered on the first axis of rotations. Means for axially separating the first block from the second block are disposed therebetween. The means are responsive to a rotative force against the second block in a direction which would induce rotation about the first axis of rotation. The means thereby axially separates the first friction pad and the second friction pad, in turn releasing the brake disc.

Abstract: This invention relates to the construction of a pantograph jack and, in particular, to an improvement in the construction of a pantograph jack wherein the pins connecting the arms to the base and load rest of the jack are replaced with extrusions emanating from those parts. In particular, the pantograph jack of this invention has four arms, including two lower arms, and two upper arms. Each of the lower arms has a gear end to rotate with respective gear ends mounted in a base, meshing to control the rotation of one lower arm with respect to the other lower arm. Each of the upper arms has a gear end mounted in a load rest to rotate with the gear ends of both upper arms meshing to control the rotation of one upper arm with respect to the other upper arm. The improvement comprises axles extruded at positions on axes of rotation of one or more of the gear ends, and the axles providing means to mount the arms in the base or the load rest.

  • Patent number: 5689870
Abstract: A valve spring compressor tool useful for removing valve springs from an overhead valve engine of the type having a threaded rocker arm stud adjacent the valve spring and a push rod aligned with the stud and the valve spring. The valve spring compressor tool of the present invention utilizes a crank down nut that has a socket portion for connection to a wrench and a neck portion which. passes through an oblong aperture in a compressor plate, where it is removably locked in position. The crank down nut has a threaded counterbore in its neck portion which threadably engages the rocker arm stud for descending and ascending the length of the stud as the crank down nut is rotated by a socket wrench connected to the socket portion. Axial movement of the crank down nut causes the compressor plate to pivot about its connection with the push rod for compression of the valve spring.
