  • Patent number: 7734313
Abstract: A first mobile station (102) can be wirelessly linked to a second mobile station (104). A physical location of the second mobile station with respect to a physical location of the first mobile station can be determined. A first player (112) using the first mobile station can be presented an icon (402) representing a second player using the second mobile station. The icon can be presented from a perspective of an eye level view. At least one targeting icon (410) can be presented to the first player to facilitate targeting of the second player. A physical stimuli can be generated from the first mobile station and/or the second mobile station in response to a simulated weapon activation on the first mobile station. The physical stimuli can be a narrowly focused ultrasound beam (302) modulated to generate an audible sound when a propagation of the ultrasound beam is disrupted by a physical object.

  • Patent number: 7532609
Abstract: An RF power fairness method (26) receives a request for supplemental channel resources (160). If sufficient supplemental channel resources (time slots and data rates) are not available, the original request is modified (166). If there is multiple call activity on the supplemental channel, RF power is calculated for each of the simultaneous calls on the shared channel (202, 208). If successful time slots and data rates are found, a grant message is returned from the time slot manager (26) to the base station (164, 170, 180). If insufficient time slots and data rate power are determined, a deny request message is transmitted to the base station (184).

  • Patent number: 7463886
Abstract: A wireless communications device detects a change in its residual energy status, and transmits the residual energy status across a wireless communications network to a remote device that coordinates communications in the wireless communications network. For example, the remote device may be a piconet coordinator (PNC) in an IEEE 802.15.3 network, or a master device in a Bluetooth network. A wireless communications device that coordinates communications in a wireless communications network (the coordinator) transmits one or more first handover commands to one or more remote devices upon the occurrence of a triggering event. Based on responses to these first commands, the coordinator selects a remote device for coordinating future communications in the wireless communications network.

  • Patent number: 7440726
Abstract: The name of a broadcasting station, transmitting broadcast signals being received by a user, is to be informed extremely readily to the user. A radio receiver (2) transmits frequency data corresponding to the frequency of FM broadcast signals being received, and territory data corresponding to the territory where the radio receiver is used, to an information providing server (3) over the Internet (5). The information providing server (3) specifies the broadcasting station, transmitting the broadcast signals being received by the radio receiver (2), based on the frequency data and the territory data transmitted, and sends a letter/character string data and a call signal corresponding to the broadcasting station specified. The radio receiver (2) demonstrates the name of the radio station on a display based on the letter/character string data displayed.

  • Patent number: 7430407
Abstract: A circuit for providing enhanced directivity in the form of a narrowed receive beam and a relatively small antenna with performance comparable to a much larger antenna at similar frequencies. Received signals are converted to digital values and stored in a manner which enables subsequent processing directed to improving the resolution of the received signals and to reduce the associated noise corresponding to the received data samples. The Signal-to-Noise ratio of the received data signals is improved as a result of processing techniques made possible by the configuration of the antenna and the digitally stored nature of the received data.

  • Patent number: 7428415
Abstract: A method of managing the session information of an AT in a CDMA2000 1xEV-DO system. In the 1xEV-DO system, a service system, having an SC/MM, is connected to a PDSN, a plurality of ANs are connected to the service system, and a plurality of ATs are capable of wireless communication with the ANs. In the session information managing method, an AN transmits to the SC/MM a session retrieve request message, upon receipt of a connection request message from the AT. The SC/MM then searches for session information of the AT and transmits to the AN a session retrieve response message including the session information. Upon receipt of the session retrieve response message, the AN transmits a connection response message to the AT.

  • Patent number: 7415243
Abstract: A system, method and computer program product are disclosed for receiving data from a satellite radio network in accordance with an embodiment of the present invention. In accordance with an embodiment of the present invention, a datagram broadcast via a satellite radio network is received utilizing a receiver. The datagram includes broadcast identifier information that identifies a segment of receivers in the satellite radio network to which the datagram is directed. Utilizing the broadcast identifier information, a determination is made as to whether the recipient receiver is a member of the identified segment of receivers to which the datagram is directed. If the recipient receiver is determined to be a member of the identified segment of receivers to which the datagram is directed, then the datagram is processed.

  • Patent number: 7415285
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for predicting channel power fading in a wireless communications system. This prediction method estimates the channel power fading via oversampling of the received and transmitted powers. The prediction method is then combined with several proposed structures for closed loop power control. The resulting structures result in improved performance in wireless communications systems.

  • Patent number: 7412212
Abstract: A method and system for communication over a wireless network has a plurality of communication channels formed between a plurality of transmitters and at least one receiver and is especially beneficial in a multiuser environment having a plurality of receivers. A characteristic is determined for each channel and then a set of weighting factors is selected to be applied to the transmitters based on the channels characteristics. The weighting factors are selected for optimizing the signal power at a receiver and a quality indication is determined for each channel based on the selected weighting factors. The indication is used to prioritize the allocation of the channels.

  • Patent number: 7383066
Abstract: A mobile communication terminal includes at least one function key which demonstrates improved resistance to vibration. This is achieved by positioning a spacer between the function key and an associated switch, which in the case of a mobile terminal may be a tact switch. The spacer may be made from an elastic material which compresses when inserted between the switch and function key. Alternatively, the spacer may be made from a rigid material. Also, the spacer may extend from one or more layers of a keypad and may be made to bend into proper orientation adjacent a side button on the terminal. By eliminating the clearance gap between the function key and switch, undesirable noise is prevented and improved stability to vibration is demonstrated. Also, a better feel to as user is achieved as a result of the reduction or elimination of this clearance gap.

  • Patent number: 7295859
Abstract: A system for mobile communications includes a protocol module and a radio component. The radio component includes a socket for electrically connecting to the protocol module and the protocol module is replaceable. The protocol module operates to provide functionality to the system according to at least one communications technology. The communications technologies can include any of CDMA, TDMA, GSM, or others. The protocol module can be replaced, for example, a protocol module for CDMA communications can be used where CDMA communications are possible and a separate protocol module for GSM communications can be used where GSM communications are possible. Because the protocol module is replaceable, any communications protocols and technologies, current and future, are viable for operations of the radio component, merely by replaced with an appropriate protocol module for the particular communications protocols and technologies at the location.
