  • Patent number: 9047747
Abstract: An interface protocol for patient monitoring systems includes a Dual Serial Bus (DSB) interface. The DSB interface includes a first serial protocol that is USB, Firewire, or Ethernet protocol and a second serial protocol that is a low power serial (LPS) protocol. DSB interfaces provide for communication between DSB Hosts and DSB Devices and allow for the transfer of operating and battery charging power from DSB Host to DSB Device. In addition, the DSB host contains a switched Auxiliary Voltage Supply (AVS) which can provide up to 15 W of power to DSB devices for battery charging or other high power needs. The DSB interface eliminates the need for multiple cables for different parameter sensing devices as there is only one type of connector and, accordingly, reduces the risk of damage caused by inadvertently plugging a parameter sensing device into the wrong receptacle.

  • Patent number: 8566620
Abstract: A method is provided for operating a data processing system having a memory. The memory is coupled between a first power supply voltage terminal for receiving a first variable potential and a second power supply voltage terminal for receiving a second variable potential. An initial difference between the first variable potential and the second variable potential is not less than a first voltage. The method comprises: receiving a command to transition the data processing system from a first power supply voltage to a second power supply voltage; changing the second variable potential so that a difference between the second variable potential and the first variable potential is greater than the first voltage; and after changing the second variable potential, changing the first variable potential, wherein a difference between the first variable potential and the second variable potential is not less than the first voltage.

  • Patent number: 8214378
Abstract: An ontology that is used to determine relationships between instances of objects having types. The ontology is made from a text file containing a DAML+OIL description of the ontology and includes a set of ontology objects and an accelerator that accelerates determination of the relationships. The accelerator is implemented using database tables and indexes. The ontology may be used as a data filter. A decision-centered visualization system uses the ontology to relate data items contained in event instances to task instances and to determine for a given task instance what portion of the data in the data item should be provided for display by a given task instance.

  • Patent number: 7895228
Abstract: The availability of one or more databases targeted by a federated query may be determined prior to running the federated query against the targeted databases. In response to determining one or more of the targeted databases are unavailable, a user may be notified. The user may also be presented with options for running the federated query. The options may include being notified when all of the targeted databases are available, automatically running the federated query (in the background) when all of the targeted databases are available, and modifying the query to run against currently available databases.

  • Patent number: 7877410
Abstract: A system and method for providing private inference control is presented. A query count and database including records are maintained. Each record includes attributes, wherein the attributes form inference channels. A data structure is constructed including ciphertext keys, which each relate to one attribute and record. A seed for a pseudorandom function and a secret key for non-malleable encryption are chosen. A query is specified by providing indices identifying one record and attribute by homomorphic encryption. A secure function evaluation is executed upon the inference channels, seed, secret key, query count, and the set of ciphertext keys. An output is generated including the pseudorandom function and an updated set of ciphertext keys subject to sum-consistency of the set of ciphertext keys and a non-inference enabling query. A table of entries is formed by combining each attribute for each record with an output from the pseudorandom function. The entry is provided.

  • Patent number: 7870100
Abstract: Techniques for automatically detecting similar subsets (e.g., fragments) in electronic documents such as dynamic content-based data, e.g., web pages. The techniques of the invention may perform a systematic analysis of the web pages with respect to one or more of their information sharing behavior, their personalization characteristics, and their change pattern over time. Thus, the invention may be applied to discover fragments in web pages of web sites that are most beneficial for caching the contents of the web site. The present invention also comprises techniques for publishing electronic documents with automatic fragment detection.

  • Patent number: 7756880
Abstract: A method provides content items located on a server to a client, the server being able to communicate with the client via a communication network. The method includes generating a content recommendation list comprising several content recommendation list entries in dependence on a user feedback profile, each content recommendation list entry representing a content item, and transferring the content recommendation list from the server to the client. The method also includes providing a representation of the content recommendation list entries through a client user interface, each entry being selectable and arranged such that for each entry, user feedback may be generated and corresponding user feedback information sent to the server and that upon selection of an entry at a predetermined position in the content recommendation list, a recommendation list request is transferred to the server.

  • Patent number: 7543247
Abstract: A method of mirroring Lotus Notes Domino documents to a non-Domino web server, while preserving document sections. Each request for expansion or collapsing of a section is handled at the client end when serving the mirrored copies of the original document. The number of fetches is reduced during retrieval of each state of the Lotus Notes Domino document. Each fetch resides on a mirrored document of a non-Domino web server in a form that does not require a unique html document for each fetch.

  • Patent number: 7472138
Abstract: A system and method in a data processing system for recovering data in a file system. A request to modify a data block in the file system is detected. In response to detecting the request to modify the data block, metadata describing the data block in the file system is written in a log. In response to detecting an error during the writing of the metadata, an error counter is incremented. Finally, in response to a request to recover the data in the file system, the metadata is read only if the error counter is less than or equal to a predetermined value.

  • Patent number: 7472126
Abstract: A method for updating a data record of a database to cancel a deployment of a computer workstation. A status of the deployment is changed from a starting status to a deployed status via intermediate statuses and then the deployment is canceled. From a decision tree stored in the database, a list of identifiers that identifies an ordered list of software routines is generated. An Email message is created that includes a selectable object and a hidden field. The list of identifiers is inserted into the hidden field. The email message is sent to a user. The user's selection of the selectable object is received. The list of identifiers is obtained from the hidden field and the software routines are received from the database. The software routines are executed in their order to update the status from deployed to the starting status via updates to the intermediate statuses.

  • Patent number: 7472107
Abstract: Integrating the partitioning of physical design structures with the physical design process can result in more efficient query execution. When candidate structures are evaluated for their relative benefit, one or more partitioning methods is associated with each structure so that the benefits of various partitioning methods are taken into consideration when the structures are selected for use by the database. A pool of partitioned candidate structures is formed by proposing and evaluating the benefit of candidate structures with associated partitioning on a per query basis. The selected partitioned candidates are then used to construct generalized structures with associated partitioning methods that are evaluated for their benefit over the workload. Those generalized structures are added to the pool of partitioned candidate structures. From this augmented pool of partitioned candidate structures, an optimal set of partitioned structures is enumerated for use by the database system.

  • Patent number: 7457832
Abstract: Verifying dynamically generated operations on a data store includes carrying out setup actions for access to the data store, the setup actions being based at least in part on a request for which the dynamically generated operations will be generated. The carrying out of setup actions includes permissions being set for portions of the data store to establish a restricted portion of the data store and an unrestricted portion of the data store, as well as using one or more additional techniques to check whether any unexpected changes were made to the unrestricted portion or to lock access to parts of the unrestricted portion. After the dynamically generated operations are performed, a verification is made that no unexpected work was performed by the dynamically generated operations. If unexpected work was performed then the operations are determined to be not correct for the request.

  • Patent number: 7457824
Abstract: An agent in a storage area network communicates with a management entity in the storage area network to discover a group of resources in the storage area network controlled by the management entity. In response to discovering the group of resources, the agent associates member resources (e.g., and their respective names) of the group of resources to a corresponding group identifier to which the member resources belong. The agent reports i) the corresponding group identifier and ii) the member resources of the group of resources controlled by the management entity to a management control center that assigns one of multiple agents in the storage area network to manage the group of resources based on communications with the management entity. After a step of assigning, the management control center can initiate an assigned agent to control the group of resources.
