  • Patent number: 8580346
Abstract: Plastic restoration kits and methods for effectively restoring the light transmission and optical clarity properties to a plastic surface such as an aircraft window. The kits and methods restore plastic surfaces that have been damaged by scratching and/or UV-induced oxidation. The kits and methods employ a polishing composition and optionally a lusterizing composition, each having particles selected so as to polish and lusterize a plastic surface. After polishing and lusterizing, a UV protective composition that forms a hard UV protective coating is applied. The polishing and/or lusterizing compositions may include agglomerated abrasive particles dispersed in a liquid or gel carrier that progressively break down in size when exposed to oxygen and mechanical pressuring during polishing or lusterizing.

  • Patent number: 8568830
Abstract: The invention concerns a method for manufacturing pipes coated with a peelable protection layer, wherein the core pipe (1) is produced by extruding and calibrating, after which the surface of core pipe (1) is heated before a protecting coating layer (7a) is applied onto the core pipe (1) on passing through a coating die (7), followed by cooling the applied coating layer (7a) before the readily coated pipe (9) is drawn out of the process. The method is characterized in that the degree of adhesion between core pipe (1) and coating layer (7a) is controlled by rapid and effective heating of the surface of the core pipe (1) to a predetermined temperature and by controlling welding time and stretching of the coating layer being applied onto the core pipe (1) by maintaining a controlled vacuum level inside the coating die (7) forcing the coating layer to hit the surface of the core pipe at an angle as steep as possibly, preferably between 45 and 90 degrees, most preferably between 60 and 80 degrees.

  • Patent number: 8551573
Abstract: A method for determining spraying parameters for controlling a paint-spraying apparatus using a spraying agent is disclosed. A known spray pattern is provided which has been determined by means of known spraying parameters for the use of a first spraying agent. A provisional spray pattern is calculated using the known spraying parameters and the characteristics of a second spraying agent. The known spraying parameters are altered in order to acquire changed spraying parameters which yield a further spray pattern. The changed spraying parameters are altered to the point where the further spray pattern is similar to the known spray pattern within a similarity criterion. The changed spraying parameters corresponding to the further spray pattern are intended as spraying parameters for the second spraying agent and are provided to the paint-spraying apparatus whenever the second spraying agent is used.

  • Patent number: 8541056
Abstract: Compositions and methods for treating textile substrates to obtain superior liquid repellent properties are disclosed. Durable microscopic surface structures imparted to the fibrous substrate allow liquids to bead up and roll off of its surface. Mechanical abrasion or sanding techniques may be used to create the microscopic surface structures on the surface of a fibrous textile substrate, without substantially breaking fibers, followed by a chemical treatment using, for example, fluorocarbon-containing repellent compositions. Particles may be employed in combination with repellent compositions to achieve superior repellent properties. A property of the roughened surface fibers, the Roughness Factor, is used to characterize the microscopic surface structures on the treated textile surface. Treated textile substrates are disclosed which achieve superior water and oil repellency, even after multiple abrasion or laundering cycles.
