Abstract: Monoalkyl tin derivatives of mercaptoacetic acid esters, such as mono-n-octyltin-S,S', S"-tris(isooctyl mercaptoacetate), are useful as food-grade stabilizers for vinyl halide polymers.
Abstract: Tetrabromophthalic acid esters of pentabromobenzyl alcohol with a softening temperature of 270.degree.-280.degree. C. and a bromine content of about 75% by weight and of a tetrakis(bromomethyl)-o-xylylene glycol with a softening temperature of 220.degree.-230.degree. C. and a bromine content of about 67% by weight are good flame retardants for synthetic resins.
Abstract: Triazinylaminotriazines of the general formula ##STR1## which are used as stabilizers for polymers, are prepared by reacting a cyanuric halide with amines containing triazinyl and polyalkylpiperidylamino groups.
Abstract: Certain substituted thioglycolates and thiopropionates were found useful as secondary stabilizers for polymers, particularly polyvinyl chloride, when used in conjunction with metal octanoates, such as zinc octanoate, as the primary stabilizer. The specific thioglycolates and thiopropionates are those formed by thio adducts to the double bond of a monomer, such as the product of reacting isooctyl thioglycolate with glycidyl acrylate, to provide isooctyl S-2(glycidyloxycarbonyl)ethyl thioglycolate, as an example.
Abstract: Polycarbonates are provided with hydrolytic stability by combining the polycarbonate polymer with a carboxylic acid salt of cadmium. The cadmium salt provides improved hydrolytic stability to both polycarbonates based on diphenols and halogenated diphenols over conventional stabilizers, and does not detrimentally affect other properties such as color stability, haze, initial tensile strength and elongation.
Abstract: The title compounds are prepared by reacting alkylated 1,1'-biphenyl-2,2'-diol or alkylated 2,2'-alkylidene-bis-phenol with phosphorus trichloride in an organic solvent and then reacting the intermediate phosphorochlorodite with an alkanolamine. Said phosphites are useful as stabilizers of organic polymers and lubricating oils, especially as processing stabilizers for polyolefins, elastomers, polyesters and polycarbonates.

Abstract: An ethylene propylene diene terpolymer composition is suitable for use as an insulator in high voltage electrical connector applications, said insulator being characterized by excellent flame retardancy and resistance, low cost, excellent tensile strength, elongation and Shore "A" Hardness with good flow during molding, the insulator comprising a cured and molded product formed from a composition comprising ethylene propylene diene terpolymer, fillers, a synergistic mixture of flame retardant agents comprising at least a brominated organic flame retardant, a hydrated alumina, antimony oxide, and a flow improver.
Abstract: Oligomers of the formula ##STR1## which contain at least one piperidyl radical per repeating unit are useful as light stabilizers for polymers.
Abstract: Compounds of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R, R' and R.sup.2 are alkyl radicals having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, phenyl radicals which may be substituted by 1 or 2 alkyl groups having 1 to 8 carbon atoms, aralkyl radicals having 7 to 12 carbon atoms, or cycloalkyl radicals having 5 to 12 carbon atoms; and wherein R.sup.3 is hydrogen or an alkyl radical having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms. These compounds have utility as synergistic stabilizers with phenolic type antioxidants for the stabilization of organic materials such as natural and synthetic polymers, rubbers, lubricants and oils, etc.
Abstract: The addition of a nitrite-sorbate stabilizing system to a copolymer of a conjugated diene and a monovinyl-substituted aromatic hydrocarbon improves thermal stability and suppresses gel and fisheye formation.
Abstract: A method of molding a plastic component having first and second portions interconnected by a transition zone with a barrier material encapsulated in the plastic material of both of the portions of the component. The permeable barrier material is placed in a mold cavity to divide the cavity into first and second portions. The first portion of the cavity is filled with plastic material while the second portion of the cavity is filled with plastic material to permeate the barrier material with plastic from both portions whereby the barrier material defines the transition zone and is encapsulated in the plastic component.
