  • Patent number: 7785360
Abstract: An instrument for implanting an expandable cylindrical vascular prosthesis includes an outer tube and an inner tube which can be displaced relative to one another. The inner tube is longitudinally slotted on the distal end, at least in an area thereof, and ensheathes the stent with this area which includes the longitudinal slot. In order to implant the stent, the outer tube is retracted. The stent then expands with continuous retracting movement of the outer tube and the inner tube is pressed open along the longitudinal slot. Implantation is terminated, when the outer tube is retracted along the entire length of the stent. The implantation is reversible by pushing the outer tube forward, as long as the stent has not yet fully exited the instrument. In this way, the inner tube is constricted together with the stent, and compressed to an initial position.

  • Patent number: 7780696
Abstract: An emboli capturing system captures emboli in a body lumen. A first elongate member has a proximal end and a distal end. An expandable emboli capturing device is mounted proximate the distal end of the first elongate member, and is movable between a radially expanded position and a radially contracted position. When in the expanded position, the emboli capturing device forms a basket with a proximally opening mouth. A second elongate member has a proximal and a distal end with a lumen extending therebetween. The lumen is sized to slidably receive a portion of the first elongate member. An expandable delivery device is mounted to the distal end of the second elongate member and is movable from a radially retracted position to a radially expanded position. The delivery device has a receiving end configured to receive the emboli capturing device, and retains at least the mouth of the emboli capturing device in a radially retracted position.

  • Patent number: 7766934
Abstract: An embolic protection device includes a basket defined by a section of a set of wires arranged as a plurality of struts. These struts are coupled together at their distal ends as well as to the distal end of a core wire or mandrel. Another section of the wires spirals around the core wire to define a hollow channel in which the core wire can reciprocate. Thus, pulling or pushing a proximal end of the core wire relative to the struts expands or contracts the basket. A filter bag is attached to the basket for capturing clots when the basket is in an expanded configuration.

  • Patent number: 7758624
Abstract: Disclosed is a system for delivering self-expanding stents to stenting sites within the body, which minimizes trauma to the affected tissue of the patient yet, at the same time, offers the medical practitioner a robust and simple system for stent placement. These technical effects are achieved by providing a catheter which receives the stent at its proximal end and guides it to the stenting site. The catheter serves as a guide catheter and has a tapered distal tip from which the stent emerges at the site of stenting. A stent pusher can be used which abuts the proximal end of the stent inside the guide catheter. The tapered tip can be molded and can be integral with the catheter shaft or bonded to it. The guide catheter can include a figurated portion towards its distal tip. The system has particular application to stenting the carotid artery.

  • Patent number: 7758587
Abstract: A system and method for simply and reliably determining the location and orientation of a medical device within a patient's body. A medical device, such as a catheter, has bending indicators on or imbedded in its wall, and passes through an anatomical reference of known orientation relative to a target site within the patient. Information from the tube bending indicators permits determination of the orientation of a feature, such as an orifice, at the distal end of the medical device relative to the anatomical reference. From the known orientation of the anatomical reference, and information on the location and orientation of the distal end of the medical device obtained from fluoroscopic imaging from a single direction, the physician may reliably determine the orientation of the distal feature relative to the target site, eliminating the need for imaging from multiple directions.

  • Patent number: 7744619
Abstract: A catheter assembly comprises a catheter shaft, a balloon and a pair of collars. The collars may be fixed or rotatable about a catheter shaft prior to exposure to an electric current. Where the collars are fixed to the shaft, the balloon is rotatable about the collars. When exposed to the electric current the collars expand to engage the waists of the balloon thereby sealing the balloon. Where the collars are rotatable about the shaft, the each waist of the balloon is engaged to a respective collars. When the rotatable collars are exposed to the electric current the collars expand to engage the shaft of the catheter thereby sealing the balloon.

Abstract: Surgical needle including a crimping zone for securing a suture to the needle. The needle is made of a hyper-elastic alloy which, after treatment, has two distinct states. One of the two distinct states allows the needle to be forced into a roughly elongated position when the needle is housed in an internal bore. Another of the two distinct states allows the needle to adopt a curved profile as a result of superelasticity or hyper-elasticity of the needle. The needle has a free end which has a tapered point which includes an inclined heel portion. The inclined heel portion is arranged on an inside portion of the curved profile.
