  • Patent number: 7479972
Abstract: In a display device performing multiple gray level display using a sub-field drive method, an operation rate of a scan driver and a data driver is reduced and power consumption in the circuits are reduced. When 28 levels of gray level display is performed with 8 bits of video data, one field is equally divided by 8 into eight sub-fields to generate a first sub-field SF0 through an eighth sub-field SF7. Each of the sub-fields SF0 through SF7 has an equal length of sub-field period to each other. And a line-sequential addressing is adopted in addressing pixels so that each line of video data is written-in collectively. Addressing operation of the pixels and light emitting operation of the pixels are performed in parallel. Each of addressing periods AP0 through AP7 in each of the sub-fields is approximately equal to the sub-field period, that is a period of one field divided by 8.

  • Patent number: 7453419
Abstract: An edge lighting system has a plurality of light sources, such as light emitting diodes (LEDs) mounted at spaced-apart intervals along a rail that is disposed adjacent to an edge of a display surface. Orifices formed in the rail in which the light sources are inserted are sized to enable each light source to move freely into contact with the edge of the display surface when urged by a force provided by a compressed elastomeric member to provide a uniform illumination as the light is internally reflected in the material comprising the display surface. The light sources extend beyond a concave (parabolic) surface on the rail that reflects light from the light sources into the edge. • Patent number: 7446776
Abstract: A system, a circuit and a method are given, to realize a display control and driver interface with graphic display memory, whereby the use of dynamic RAM rather than static RAM for this graphic display memory is new. This has the advantage, that for a given size of display memory (number of bits) the DRAM silicon area is significantly less than that of the SRAM. Said system and circuit are designed in order to be implemented with a very economic number of components, capable to be realized with modern monolithic integrated circuit technologies and implementing the given method. This display controller and driver chip can then be used for all LCD display devices including STN (Super Twisted Nematic), CSTN (Colour STN), TFT (Thin Film Transistor) LCD's and for OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) displays.

  • Patent number: 7417610
Abstract: Provided are image display apparatus and image display methods capable of suitably making correction for variation of driving conditions due to an electric resistance of matrix wiring of a display panel by downsized hardware. The apparatus and methods involve a device of calculating voltage drop amounts caused by the resistance of row wires, for input image data, and a device of calculating image data with correction for the voltage drop amounts (corrected image data). An overflow processing circuit is provided so as to prevent overflow of the image data after the correction from an input range of a modulator, and the overflow is prevented by a gain. Since a gradation converter for changing a gradation conversion characteristic by a gain is provided in the stage preceding to the configuration for making the correction for influence of the voltage drop, it becomes feasible to cancel saturation characteristics of phosphors and to display images with high quality thereby.

  • Patent number: 7417624
Abstract: Described is a zero-force key activation keyboard with individual key illumination. The keyboard includes a non-moving key for causing generation of an input signal when activated. The key has a depressed surface defining an approximately concave well with sides forming an open region sized to receive a tip of a finger. A light emitter positioned on one side of the well emits a beam of light across the open region to an opposite side of the well. A light detector is positioned on the opposite side of the well to receive the light beam and to signal activation of the key when the light beam is obstructed from being received by the light detector. Each key is illuminated from within the well. When the key is activated, its illumination color can change. Upon release, the illumination color returns immediately or gradually back to a previous color or unlighted state.
