  • Patent number: 11746908
Abstract: An open cooling space or spiral cooling channel is formed between channel walls of a spool and an outer housing of a rotating shaft seal. The spool is sealed to the housing at the two ends thereof, does not intrude into the cooling inlet or outlet, and is axially removable and exchangeable without being distorted, thereby avoiding damage to the spool and/or contact between the spool and rotating seal elements. Due to the easy installation and removal of the spool, it can be installed as an upgrade after seal installation, and is easily cleaned and replaced. The cooling channel can be terminated by inlet and outlet rings, such that the spool does not require any rotational alignment within the seal assembly. The cooling channel can have a square or rectangular cross-section, thereby increasing thermal exchange between the cooling channel and the cooling channel spool rendering the cooling more efficient.

  • Patent number: 11732753
Abstract: A circumferential seal assembly suitable for forming a thin film between a rotatable runner and a sealing ring is presented. The assembly includes an annular seal housing, a rotatable runner, an annular seal ring, and a plurality of groove structures. Each groove structure includes a groove and an optional feed groove. The groove includes at least two adjoining steps defined by base walls arranged to decrease depthwise. Two adjoining base walls are disposed about a base shoulder. Each base shoulder locally redirects a longitudinal flow to form an outward radial flow in the direction of the annular seal ring. The base walls are bounded by and intersect a pair of side walls. A side wall includes side shoulders which narrows the groove widthwise and locally redirects the longitudinal flow to form a lateral flow in the direction of the other side wall. Outward and lateral flows separately or in combination enhance stiffness of a thin-film layer between the annular seal ring and the rotatable runner.

  • Patent number: 11698135
Abstract: A seal arrangement includes a first and a second machine part which are arranged spaced apart from one another with the formation of a sealing gap and can be moved relative to one another about a movement axis. A seal element with a base section is arranged on or in a seal holding structure of one of the two machine parts. A sealing head bears in a dynamically sealing manner by way of a sealing section against a sealing surface of the respective other machine part in order to seal a high-pressure side from a low-pressure side. The seal element on the high-pressure side has at least one flow element, wherein during relative movement of the two machine parts fluid on the high-pressure side in the area of the sealing section of flows onto the sealing head.

  • Patent number: 11608898
Abstract: A mechanical seal that employs an axially movable spring holder plate that engages a sealing element, such as an O-ring, associated with a stationary seal ring. In turn, the stationary seal ring can have a sealing face that engages with a sealing face of a rotary seal ring. The rotary seal ring can also have a sealing element, such as an O-ring, associated therewith. The O-rings are initially disposed in an unloaded position where they are not radially compressed and hence the ends do not expand circumferentially past the end faces of the holder or gland segments. The spring holder plate can be moved axially by tightening selected bolts associated therewith. When moved axially, the spring holder plate moves the stationary seal ring and the O-ring associated therewith in an axially inboard direction, thus placing the O-rings in a loaded position, where the O-rings are radially compressed.
