  • Patent number: 5106198
Abstract: An apparatus for treating molten material wherein a gas is present during such treatment either by being removed from the molten material or by being added thereto. The apparatus comprises a housing having a continuous spindle or a pair of spindles disposed therein. The continuous spindle is externally threaded at least in its end regions, and the pair of spindles is externally threaded. A plurality of planet spindles are dispoed circumferentially around the spindle are spindles. The planet spindles are also threaded and intermesh with one another as well as with the spindle or spindles. Furthermore, the internal wall of the housing is threaded and intermeshes with the threaded planet spindles. A treatment chamber is defined within the housing and the planet spindles define a wall surface of such chamber. The intermeshing components produce thin layers of the molten material which is carried, by the planet spindles, into the treatment chamber.

  • Patent number: 5102326
Abstract: An apparatus for processing thermoplastic synthetic plastic material includes a receptacle in which a rotating tool circulates around an axis. The axis of rotation may be offset with respect to the axis of the receptacle by a predetermined amount. From the receptacle, the comminuted material is conveyed by the rotating tool into the inlet opening of a screw-type extruder which has an axis that is offset relative to a parallel radius of the receptacle. The offset arrangement allows the rotating tool improves the flow of the processed material into the screw-type extruder.

  • Patent number: 5100311
Abstract: A mold locator is adapted to support and position a wound electromagnetic coil within a mold for encapsulation of the coil by dielectric media. In one preferred form, the locator includes an annular central body having arms extending radially from the central body. In addition to having a pair of stiffening ribs extending along the sides thereof, each arm incorporates a channel for carrying a wire lead. The central body is annular in shape and defines an interior wall having a plurality of radially extending detents adapted to make point contacts with a centering arbor in the mold. Similarly, each radially extending arm of the mold locator incorporates at least one detent adapted to make a point contact with the floor or bottom of the mold cavity. Collectively, the detents operate to limit surface contact between the locator and the internal surfaces of the mold.

  • Patent number: 5098273
Abstract: An improved apparatus for cutting and shaping a spherical material, which is composed of an assembly consisting of a number of rotary polygonal members for forming an opening at their center to cut and shape the material passing through the opening. Each of the members with curved side surfaces that are opposite each other is associated with each other such that when the members make a pivotal movement, the curved surface of each member slides over the curved surface of an adjacent member, and each of the members has a uniform thickness except for the area near the tip, where the thickness nonequiangularly decreases toward the tip so that substantially spherical products completely covered by an outer cover of a uniform thickness can be produced.

  • Patent number: 5098278
Abstract: A vertical-edge concrete-finishing tool having an elongated concrete former of small generally right triangular cross-sectional shape the hypotenuse side of which is a concave forming-surface extending longitudinally of the former and the legs of which are flat and intersect opposite the bottom of the concavity of said forming-surface. A shank member extends upwardly from one end of the former in supporting relation, and a handle member extends upwardly from the upper end of the shank member in supporting relation thereto.

  • Patent number: 5094601
Abstract: An apparatus for molding a plastic cap onto a pre-formed metallic shank includes a shank insertion device for inserting the shank onto a carrier member such that a head of the shank is elevated above the carrier member. A molding device, having an open mold cavity engages the carrier member such that the carrier member acts as a portion of the mold. A contour forming device can be used to form raised contours in said carrier member prior to the insertion of said shanks at said shank insertion device. A feeder mechanism is provided for drawing the carrier member through the contour forming device, the shank insertion device, and the molding device.

  • Patent number: 5094600
Abstract: An apparatus for measuring eccentricities of a rod of plastic material extruded from an extruder includes an optical sensor arrangement having a central axis, the arrangement including a pair of optical sensor devices circumferentially spaced at 90 degrees to one another about the central axis and a pair of light sources disposed on sides of the central axis opposite to the respective optical sensor devices for providing shadows of the rod on the optical sensor devices. A mounting fixture supports the sensor arrangement with its central axis aligned with the nozzle axis of the extruder so that the extruded rod will travel along the central axis of the sensor arrangement. An output device is connected to the sensor devices for measuring deviations of the shadows from predetermined positions indicating concentricity of the rod.

  • Patent number: 5094605
Abstract: A device for the removal of a solidified mineral melt, termed flash, from the discharge end of a spout (3) of a transport channel (1) that is used to carry liquid mineral melt (2) to a mineral wool fiber producing unit (4). The device has a finger (9) made of a heat resistant material which is mounted to be quickly moved by a motor (10, 11) past and through liquid mineral melt (5) below and adjacent the spout (3) on the melt channel (1) in order to scrape off existing flash material from the discharge end of the melt channel (1). The device optionally may have a thermosensor, that emits an alarm signal, in case the temperature of the mineral melt at any point falls below a predetermined temperature, and/or a sensor designed to immediatley actuate the flash removal finger (9) as soon as a tendency to flash formation appears.

  • Patent number: 5066213
Abstract: A mold-forming cup has a frustoconical interior tapering in cross-sectional size from the top of the cup to the bottom. A metal master model is mounted generally centrally of the interior of the cup, whereupon the cup is packed with rubber mold material. The mold material is vulcanized and the resulting mold is cut into top and bottom sections such that the master model can be removed. The mold sections are placed back together and inserted into a retaining ring having a frustoconical interior of a size slightly smaller than the size of the interior of the mold-forming cup to accommodate for shrinkage of the mold during vulcanization. The mold is held in the retaining ring under pressure so as to be restrained on all sides during injection of wax into the central cavity of the mold to form a wax pattern of the same shape as the master model.
