  • Patent number: 4407603
Abstract: The invention refers to a device for producing a friction joint incorporating two members (1,2) having concentric opposite and mainly tapering surfaces, which are squeezed against each other at a relative axial displacement in one direction. The joint preferably incorporates a sleeve, on which one of said surfaces is arranged and for obtaining a minimum radial extension are the joint surfaces in longitudinal section provided with a saw tooth contour, which can be formed by a number of taper portions arranged in a row or by a helical ramp (6), which forms an angle to the center axes of the members.

  • Patent number: 4407511
Abstract: A seal and scraper assembly for a nut and screw actuator has an elastomeric member bonded to a metal ring. The elastomeric member has an annular lip outer portion and a helical thread form inner portion. The inner portion has a plurality of scraper or wiper surfaces interrupting the thread form at an oblique angle and cooperating with a lubricant return surface to direct lubricant, scraped from the screw thread surface, into the housing enclosing the nut and screw actuator. A web portion extends between the outer lip and the inner thread form along the same angle as each scraper surface so that a component of the assembly forces on the outer lip portion are transmitted to the scraper surface so as to increase the thread sealing and scraping forces.

  • Patent number: 4406560
Abstract: A pipe connector for connection to a pipe having a plain end comprises a body having a profile matching that of the pipe, and a pair of jaws extending outwardly for insertion within the end of the pipe. The jaws are formed with oppositely directed clamping surfaces for engaging the inner wall surface of the pipe end. One of the jaws is fixed and integral with the body. The other jaw is pivotally mounted on the fixed jaw and is extended inwardly of the body where it is threadedly engaged by a screw which connects the pivoted jaw with the body so that by rotating the screw in the appropriate direction the pivoted jaw pivots away from or towards the fixed jaw to clamp or unclamp the jaws from the pipe. The screw thus provides a positive clamping force which greatly assists the dismantling of the connector from a pipe end when desired. The screw also retains the pivoted jaw in place and there are no loose parts to become lost.

  • Patent number: 4405253
Abstract: A connection between two elements (10, 11) in furniture or the like.A straight rod (15) extends with the two end portions thereof into a bore in one element and the other, respectively. It is locked, by means of a cross-pin (24) in a transverse bore (18) in one element (10) against withdrawal from this element, and it is locked, by means of a cross-rod (20) which has a considerably greater length than the cross-dimension of the straight rod (15) and is received in a transverse bore (19) in the other element (11), against withdrawal from this element. The cross-rod forms one arm of a rigid angle fitting, the other arm of which is formed by the part of the straight rod, extending into said one element (10). The cross-pin (24) is constructed as an eccentric, rendering possible tightening of the elements (10, 11) against one another by means of the straight rod (15).

The tenons are in substantially play-free mating engaging with the mortise and are substantially of the same volume as the mortise. In one embodiment the tenons are right trapezoidal in contact along their inclined surfaces of equal slope. In another embodiment there are two pairs of tenons for each mortise which comprises a pair of cylindrical cavities. Threaded fasteners extending through appropriate hole with internally threaded bushes and apertures in the tenons and through the mortise secure the assembled joints.

  • Patent number: 4403895
Abstract: A floor mat retainer for securing a floor mat to mass backed carpeting of the type having an upper carpet layer bonded to a lower carpet layer. The retainer includes a self-piercing shank having a high lead tapered thread terminating at a lower partial radial shoulder. An upper radial shoulder is spaced from the lower shoulder by a distance less than the distance of the carpet layer. The retainer is self-piercingly threaded into the carpeting until the lower shoulder moves through the carpet layer to thereby press the carpet layer between both shoulders. The length of the shank is less than the distance between the vehicle floor and compressed carpet layer to avoid bulging. A headed portion extends from the upper shoulder and is received through an opening in the floor mat to retain the floor mat in place. The retainer is of one piece molded plastic construction to eliminate rust and corrosion problems.

  • Patent number: 4403884
Abstract: Multi-wire steel strand for use under repetitive cyclic load conditions, such as in mechanically pumped wells, is provided with end connecting pieces which are swaged into gripping engagement with the strand in a manner to avoid fatigue failure of the wire at the end connecting pieces, by avoiding abrupt load transitions in the wire. The swaging is such as to gradually and progressively transfer load from the wire strand to the end connecting pieces, preferably by virtue of a gradual and progressive increase of the grip between the wire strand and an end piece, considered in the direction of the terminal end of the strand on which the end piece is mounted, in order to gradually reduce the load in the end portion of the strand and avoid abrupt load transitions therein, which can act as stress risers. A lubricating sleeve insert prevents galling and abrading in the area of relatively slight grip where relative movement may occur, so as to avoid creating stress risers.

  • Patent number: 4396310
Abstract: The invention relates to a clamping arrangement to connect a hub with an inner structural part, in particular a shaft, including at least one outer taper ring having an inner conical surface tapered at a self-returning angle. The tapered ring cooperating with a tapered outer circumferential surface of a tub. Axially acting lock bolts, tension the tapered ring against the hub locking the assembly to the shaft. Wedge segments, distributed circumferentially and arranged axially between the taper ring and a counter-support on the hub, are provided. The wedges are displaced radially by means of radial release bolts and pressure the tapered ring axially off the conical surface of one hub releasing the same from the shaft.

  • Patent number: 4395173
Abstract: A drill screw having protective burrs on the cutting edges. These burrs preserve the sharpness of the cutting edges against heavy plating buildup which can have detrimental effects on performance. Further, whereas conventional burrs on the drag surfaces can be reinforced and serve to thicken the dimension of the point across the chisel, the burrs of the present invention are formed on the cutting edge in such a way that they are spaced from the chisel. Drilling can, therefore, begin immediately and continued penetration of the workpiece pushes the burrs into the material being drilled causing them to break off.
