  • Patent number: 4317441
Abstract: A compact broiler for cooking slabs of meat includes generally vertical infrared and preferably gas fired heating elements spaced apart within a housing to define a cooking zone between them. A mouth through the upper surface of the housing provides access to the cooking zone. A special rack suspends a slab of meat within the cooking zone when in one position and when turned 180.degree. to another position suspends the meat in a warming zone above the mouth. The rack retaining mechanism cooperates with the rack to both center the meat within the cooking zone and retain the rack in place. The housing also defines a dripping collecting zone below the heating zone into which a gutter is positioned for capturing drippings from the meat. A liner including a heat shield positioned above the gutter and generally within the dripping collecting zone deflects heat from the heating members away from the gutter to prevent burning of drippings therein.

  • Patent number: 4040312
Abstract: A reduction drive unit, such as a wheel hub of the type including a fluid motor operable to rotate a shaft, a sun gear engaging the shaft, a planetary gear set engaging the sun gear, and a ring gear driven by the planetary gears to drive a rotating hub. The rotating hub includes a secondary hub portion surrounding the housing of the fluid motor, with a bearing set and an oil seal disposed between the motor housing and second hub portion. The oil seal has a large enough diameter, relative to the bearing set and adjacent portions of the motor housing and hub portion, that the motor housing may be removed from within the hub without damaging the oil seal.

  • Patent number: 4036067
Abstract: An integral revolution clutch is provided wherein a motor rotates a drive pulley which continuously drives an idler pulley through a belt. A drive shaft is provided with a segment of a circle thereon connectable to the idler pulley by means of the belt. A spring means urges the segment into contact with the belt and a stop means normally prevents contact. When the stop means is deactivated, the segment is drawn between the belt and the pulley, causing the shaft on which the segment is located to make an integral number of revolutions until the stop means is restored. In a similar manner, power can be taken directly from the drive pulley.

  • Patent number: 4028951
Abstract: A motion transforming mechanism which comprises a sliding member, a rack lever supported rotatably on the sliding member and engageable with a driving gear, a trigger lever supported rotatably on said sliding member and engaged with said rack lever and a fixed pin engageable with the rack lever so that the rotation of the driving gear may be positively and accurately transformed to a linear motion of a fixed stroke, the sliding member being utilized to intermittently rotate a ratchet wheel.

  • Patent number: 4011763
Abstract: A linkage arrangement for connecting two parallel spaced shafts such that bilateral rotation of one shaft produces unilateral rotation of the other shaft. The linkage arrangement includes a substantially u-shaped member attached to one shaft and an elongated member attached to the other shaft and situated within the u-shaped member such that one leg of the u-shaped member will engage one end of the elongated member upon rotation of the u-shaped member in a first direction. Upon rotation of the u-shaped member in a second direction, the other leg of the u-shaped member will engage an opposite side and end of the elongated member such that the second shaft is caused to rotated in a unilateral direction.

  • Patent number: 4011764
Abstract: A nut on a helically threaded steering shaft, held against rotation, carries a first set of involute teeth meshing with a second set of involute teeth on an adjoining gear sector which pivots on an axis skew to that of the shaft. The two sets of teeth have centers of curvature offset from the sector axis but aligned with that axis in a midposition in which they engage each other without play; upon a shift of the nut to either side, the tooth clearance or backlash increases progressively while the transmission ratio either increases or decreases, depending upon the relative positions of the two centers of curvature and the sector axis. In a limiting case, the radius of curvature of one set of teeth is infinite.

  • Patent number: 3938633
Abstract: A motor chain saw in which serially arranged clutches are interposed between the motor output shaft and the chain of the saw. The clutches include a centrifugal clutch and a mechanically controlled clutch. The mechanically controlled clutch has at least one drive element having an engaged position and a disengaged position and is acted on by centrifugal force urging it toward the position which it occupies. A spring urges the device element toward engaged position with a force less than the centrifugal force which acts on the drive element above a certain speed. The mechanically controlled clutch includes at least one control operable to move the drive element in at least disengaging direction during rotation of the clutch.
