  • Patent number: 10019253
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for updating hot-pluggable devices of an information handling system using dynamic EFI System Resource Table (ESRT) entries to implement an ESRT entry update procedure for hot-pluggable devices. Extended configuration space (e.g., such as PCIe Extended Config Space) of a hot-pluggable device may be utilized to store firmware update version information such as firmware version details, which is used in the OS space to update the ESRT table, and the system OS may read and apply the updated firmware version information and apply the firmware update immediately without additional OS reboots.

  • Patent number: 10019275
Abstract: In a virtualized computer system operable in more than two hierarchical privilege levels, components of a hypervisor, which include a virtual machine kernel and virtual machine monitors (VMMs), are assigned to different privilege levels. The virtual machine kernel operates at a low privilege level to be able to exploit certain features provided by the low privilege level, and the VMMs operate at a high privilege level to support execution of virtual machines. Upon determining that a context switch from the virtual machine kernel to a VMM is to be performed, the computer system exits the low privilege level, and enters the high privilege level to execute a trampoline that supports context switches to VMMs, such as state changes, and then the VMM. The trampoline is deactivated after execution control is switched to the VMM.

  • Patent number: 10007782
Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention provides system for facilitating replacement of a system function in an application with a customized function. During operation, the system shifts an existing load command in a file of an application to accommodate an additional load command. The system also adds the additional load command to the file. The additional load command identifies additional instructions that change a pointer of the application from a value that points to a system function to another value that points to a customized function.

  • Patent number: 10001987
Abstract: A method is for updating an original firmware file of an I/O module which communicates with multiple host-end devices and stores the original firmware file. The method includes: receiving a current-received data packet from one host-end device; when it is determined that the current-received data packet is a first data packet constituting an update file, and that the original firmware file is not undergoing an update process, setting a status flag to indicate that the original firmware file is undergoing an update process, storing the current-received data packet; and repeating the previous steps when it is determined that the current-received data packet is not a last one data packet constituting the update file.

  • Patent number: 9996374
Abstract: An update is deployed to a guest virtual machine of a hypervisor during runtime of the guest virtual machine. An executing thread of the guest virtual machine is identified and execution of the thread is redirected to a function to open a handle to a file, of the guest virtual machine, to which data of the update is to be written. The data is provided to a component of the guest virtual machine, and then execution of the thread is redirected to a function to write the data provided to the component to the file.

  • Patent number: 9990186
Abstract: A method of compiling a sequence of program instructions, a method of parallel execution of a sequence of program instructions and apparatuses and software supporting such methods are disclosed. The sequence of program instructions is analyzed in terms of basic blocks forming a control flow graph and execution paths through that control flow graph are identified. When more than one execution path leads to a given basic block, or when a loop path is found leading from a given basic block back to the same basic block, a potential convergence point may be identified. A convergence marker is added to the computer program associated with the basic blocks identified in this way and then when the program is executed, the convergence markers found are used to trigger a determination of a subset of the multiple execution threads which are executed following that convergence marker.

  • Patent number: 9940226
Abstract: A system and method synchronizes heterogeneous agents in a computer system with a software synchronization mechanism. Agents of the computer system connected to a common memory, including agents lacking a hardware synchronization system, can be synchronized with the software synchronization mechanism. The synchronized agents can cause collisions on the same cache line in order to stress test the memory of the system. Each agent updates a first array to indicate it has arrived at the synchronization. After all the agents have arrived, each agent then updates a second array to announce its exit.
