  • Patent number: 4201539
Abstract: A flame forming burner for simultaneously minimizing excess air consumption while suppressing NO.sub.x emissions. A dual zone air register is provided to supply primary air in substoichiometric quantity into mixture with fuel to produce a flame in a primary zone. Additional air is introduced around the flame and downstream of the initial combustion site in a secondary zone, in sufficient quantity to complete combustion. In the preferred embodiment, primary air is provided through a venturi throat, and secondary air is provided through an annular passage equipped with vanes which generate dual counter-rotating (DCR) air flow surrounding the primary zone. Dampers for each register control the primary to secondary air ratio. Preferably, a divergent, non-circular throat provides flame shaping.

  • Patent number: 4201538
Abstract: A burner for liquid fuels such as light, medium and heavy oil, in which a fuel supply pipe is concentrically located in an air supply pipe and partially enclosed by a sleeve carrying air. A spray diffuser and a twist-producing member encloses the fuel supply pipe upstream of the spray diffuser. The twist-producing member has a fixed blower wheel and receives combustion air from the periphery thereof. The combustion air quantity is regulatable upstream of the burner head as a function of the prevailing fuel flow. A space located between the twist-producing member and the air supply pipe, holds two additional air supply pipes. One of these additional air supply pipes, an innermost pipe, has an end cone directed towards the outside. Coaxially downstream from the twist-producing member enclosing the fuel supply pipe, there are two additional twist-producing members with opposite twist direction enclosing each other.

  • Patent number: 4200002
Abstract: A tooth formed on a brake pawl has, at a portion facing the outer peripheral surface of a brake gear coaxially mounted on the output shaft of the transmission, first and second inclined surfaces which are bounded by an intersectional line parallel to the axis of the output shaft. The inclination angle of each surface with respect to a tangent line passing through a point where the intersectional line is in contact with a circular path swept out by the outer peripheral surface of teeth formed on the brake gear is greater than zero degrees. With this, the brake pawl is pushed way from its engaged condition due to collisions between shoulder portions of the teeth and one of the first and second inclined surfaces above a predetermined vehicle speed.

  • Patent number: 4200087
Abstract: A kitchen exhaust system has an outside air supply blower and a hood exhaust blower discharging outside the building. Air is introduced from the supply blower into the area behind the cooking unit and the exhaust is taken through a removable flow director or guide secured to the typical exhaust hood. The flow guide has an inlet located toward the front of the cooking unit and relatively near the top of the cooking unit and has convenient release devices to facilitate removal of the guide from the hood to facilitate removal and replacement of filters or grease removing devices from their usual disposition in the hood assembly. The shape of the flow director is such as to provide a high velocity of the fluid flow adjacent the intake opening and thereby provide more effective scavenging action for combustion products and cooking fumes than is typically found with an exhaust unit unassisted by the flow director of the present invention.

  • Patent number: 4198952
Abstract: A stove having a combustion chamber surrounded by four sides and a top and having a warm air conduit extending between opposite sides and opening outwardly of at least one of the sides. Where the stove is to utilize natural convection, the conduits open outwardly of both the sides of the enclosure. An opening is provided in the top or bottom of the warm air conduit remote from its outlet or outlets for effecting draft thereto. A preferred embodiment has two such heating conduits at right angles to each other and with an opening therebetween to further increase draft through the conduits. In the case of forced convection, the conduits need only open from one of the sides.

  • Patent number: 4198878
Abstract: A rotary energy storage device includes a core in which a multiplicity of anisotropic filaments are embedded in a resin matrix. Extending through the core is an axis about which the core is rotatable. At least a portion of the filaments in the core are oriented transversely of each other, but not circumferentially of the axis of rotation. The transverse orientation of the filaments relative to each other produces resistance along at least two axes to radial and tangential stresses imposed on the core when it is rotated. The outer peripheral surface of the core is enclosed and snugly fitted by a shell. The shell includes a filamentary structure that provides a plurality of substantially parallel and juxtaposed filament portions oriented to circumscribe the peripheral surface of the core. The filament portions of the shell are encased in a matrix material that bonds adjacent filament portions to one another.

  • Patent number: 4194408
Abstract: A bicycle transmission with one or two driving sprockets on a pedal shaft, selectively connectable with any one of several driven sprockets of progressively varying diameters on a rear-wheel axle, is controlled by a gear-shifting lever rigid with one or two cam disks each coacting with a cam follower on an associated rocker arm. Each rocker arm is tied to a flexible link, such as a Bowden cable, serving for the relative axial shifting of the chains and a respective sprocket set to let the chain jump from one driven (or driving) sprocket to an adjoining one. Each cam disk has a plurality of peripheral lands whose distances from the disk axis determine the engagement of the chain with one of the sprockets of the associated group.

  • Patent number: 4191238
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and mould for the production of a connecting rod or similar object having a body of cast metal, expecially a non-ferrous metal such as a zinc or aluminum alloy, the body comprising a connecting rod shank and of which at least one connecting rod end is provided with a bearing race element of hardened steel, typically an outer race for a roller or needle bearing. The invention particularly pertains to connecting rods having bearing surfaces subject to high loads and which are characterized by the absence of "pockets" in which contaminated lubricant might accumulate. Such connecting rods are, for instance, used in two-stroke combustion engines as for instance outboard motors for boats or the like, with rollers or needles disposed between the said outer race and the journal of the crank shaft throw.

  • Patent number: 4189958
Abstract: A linear type of compressor wherein a housing section, for enclosing a crankshaft and pinions of a counterbalancing synchronizer, has axially extending support means for the pinions formed integrally therewith through an inner flange also integral with the housing section, so that the holes for the pinion shafts may be formed in the support means when the hole in the housing for the crankshaft is formed. This assures the making of all of the holes exactly parallel and avoids time-consuming assembly work, experienced in prior art compressor manufacturing, when the housing sections are put together. By providing a large opening through the upper portion of the support means or through the bottom of the housing an axial bore may be made to receive a piston type of crosshead.
