  • Patent number: 9993915
Abstract: A tool includes a housing; a handle having first and second ends mounted thereto via respective mountings, and a biasing mechanism connected between the housing and handle. At least one mounting comprises parts mounted on the housing and end of the handle respectively, one part comprising a support, the other comprising a pin having a longitudinal axis, located in the support and capable of moving linearly or being rotated therein so the handle may move accordingly. The pin is in a passage of the support having larger length than width, allowing free movement either rotationally about its axis or linearly along the length for rotational or linear movement of the end of the handle. The width size varies along the passage, providing a convex surface along at least part of the length, engageable by the pin's side to enable pivoting within the passage about an axis parallel to the length.

  • Patent number: 9993913
Abstract: A clenching adapter for use with automatic nailers tools is provided, which mounts to a nailer tool, and which extends behind a two-layer workpiece and curls the tip of a driven nail on the opposite side of the multiple-layer workpiece. The adapter includes a movable extension link that pivots on a proximal end, due to the action of an air cylinder actuator, and that pivoting motion causes an anvil mounted on its distal end to grasp the opposite (bottom) side of the workpiece, while also positioning the anvil to a location where it intercepts the nail that will be fired through the workpiece by the nailer tool. The anvil mechanism rotates from a “relaxed” position that fits within a gap in the boards of a workpiece, to an actuated “ready” position that receives and curls the nail, for clenching a multi-substrate workpiece. The actuations are automatically sequenced, in one embodiment.

  • Patent number: 9991069
Abstract: A switch assembly includes a switch housing, a first switch subassembly, and a second switch subassembly. The first switch subassembly includes a shaft and a toggle button. The shaft is disposed within the switch housing and has a proximal end portion and a distal end portion. The shaft is pivotable relative to the switch housing about at least one pivot axis to actuate at least one function of a surgical instrument. The proximal end portion of the shaft includes a magnet. The toggle button is non-rotatably connected to the distal end portion of the shaft. The second switch subassembly includes a safety bar and a post. The safety bar is axially movable within the switch housing. The post extends through the safety bar such that movement of the safety bar along a longitudinal axis thereof moves the post between a firing position and a non-firing position.

  • Patent number: 9943952
Abstract: An electro-pneumatic tool drives a fastener into a workpiece by energizing an electric motor to drive a first piston and generate compressed air in a first cylinder. The compressed air is then supplied to a second cylinder and causes a second piston to move and drive the fastener into the workpiece. After the first piston has passed through its top dead center, braking is applied to the first piston according to one or more braking parameters. Then, if a control unit determines that the first piston has come to a stop at a position that is outside a predetermined range about the bottom dead center of the first piston, one or more of the braking parameters is changed in a subsequent fastener driving cycle to cause the first piston to stop closer to its bottom dead center after conclusion of the subsequent fastener driving cycle.

  • Patent number: 9913646
Abstract: Devices and methods for forming an anastomosis between two body lumens are described herein. In one embodiment, an anastomosis can be formed by transecting a body lumen using a linear surgical stapler that delivers a plurality of sealing adjuncts in combination with a plurality of surgical staples along a staple line, where the plurality of sealing adjuncts are coupled to one another by a suture. A circular surgical stapler can be used to create an anastomosis with a second body lumen across the staple line. Before actuating the circular stapler, the proximal and distal ends of the staple line can be drawn into a central lumen of the circular stapler using the suture extending between the plurality of sealing adjuncts such that the staple line is resected when the circular stapler is actuated.

  • Patent number: 9890821
Abstract: Embodiments of clutches for electric tools, and related methods, are disclosed herein. An electric tool may include an electric motor, a drive shaft coupled between the electric motor and a cutting instrument, and a clutch coupled between the electric motor and the drive shaft. The clutch may include a motor portion having an exterior surface, a drive shaft portion having an exterior surface and forming a mated assembly when mated with the motor portion, and a spring around the motor and drive shaft portions. The spring may exert a holding force on the mated assembly, such that rotation of the motor portion in a first direction loosens the spring and reduces the friction holding force until a torque between the motor and drive shaft portions exceeds the holding force, causing rotation of the motor portion to be decoupled from rotation of the drive shaft portion.

  • Patent number: 9815188
Abstract: A handle for a work apparatus has an actuation member for controlling the rpm of a drive motor of the work apparatus. The actuation member is mounted in the handle and has a pressure surface for the fingers of a user hand. In an initial position, the actuation member protrudes with its pressure surface beyond the grip surface of the handle and, in a position for continuous operation of the motor, has dipped into the grip surface so that the pressure surface of the actuation member lies at the level of the grip surface. A recess extends in the longitudinal direction of the handle and is formed in the grip surface. The recess overlaps the pressure surface of the actuation member so that the actuation member is displaced into the handle via the recess to a boost position whereat the pressure surface lies within the grip surface.
