  • Patent number: 6004020
Abstract: A medication dispensing and monitoring system includes an acknowledge-back pager, a carriage communicating with the pager, and a medication unit dispensing stored medication. The pager receives prescriptions and transmits messages back to a physician or health care organization. Prescriptions received by the pager are stored and processed by a pager processor. The pager processor communicates with a carriage controller via a series of electrical contacts. At a prescribed time, a motor in the carriage causes the medication unit to dispense the prescribed medication. Numerous medication units may be assembled to accommodate different forms of medication.

  • Patent number: 6003660
Abstract: Three tandem drive units are provided. Outward variable volume working chambers at one end of the drive units are connected via passageways in the piston rods with inward variable volume working chambers at the opposite end of the drive units. In similar fashion, inward variable volume working chambers at the first ends of the drive units are connected to outward variable volume working chambers at the second ends of the drive units, also via passageways in the piston rods. At each end of the assembly, the piston rods pass through piston rod receiving openings in a cylinder head forming member. Each cylinder head forming member includes a manifold passageway and spool valves for controlling a sequencing movement of the drive units. The piston rods provide the spools for the spool valves.

  • Patent number: 6000884
Abstract: An air conveyor system has a blower in communication with a plenum. The blower provides air to the plenum to move the objects with respect to the plenum. The air conveyor system includes a plurality of dampers disposed at predetermined locations along the plenum with the dampers being normally open. A sensor device senses the location where the objects have accumulated with respect to the plenum. Furthermore, the air conveyor system includes a closing device for closing the damper which is at the location where the objects have accumulated with respect to the plenum. The closing of the damper is based upon the sensed accumulated location. The system includes a variable speed blower for providing air to move objects with respect to the plenum. • Patent number: 6000503
Abstract: A two door assembly (10) for an elevator car (11) includes a high speed door (12) and a low speed door (14) that move between an open and closed position to close the entrance (16) of the elevator car. The doors (12, 14) are retained slidably between a header (18) disposed along the top of the car entrance and a door guide (20) disposed along the bottom of the car entrance (16). A drive mechanism (22) moves the high speed and low speed doors (12, 14) between the open and closed positions. A drive arm (24) interconnects the doors to move the low speed door (14) at approximately one-half the speed of the high speed door (12) driven by the drive mechanism (22). One end (38) of the drive arm (24) is connected pivotally to the door guide (20) of the elevator car (11). Each door (12, 14) has a pin (32, 34) extending from a bracket (26, 28) connected to each respective door for sliding engagement with a pair of slots (42, 44) that extend longitudinally along the drive arm (24).

  • Patent number: 6000528
Abstract: A conveyor device for accelerating a series of products comprises a feed device for supplying products at a feed velocity, an acceleration device which is positioned downstream thereof, and a transfer device for taking up the accelerated products and delivering the products at regular intervals and at an accelerated velocity. The acceleration device comprises a transport path, with a belt of projections on either side thereof, which belt rotates at a lower velocity than the transport path. The transport path carries along the products at an accelerated velocity until they bear against the projections. After they have come to bear against the projections, the accelerated products are taken up by the transfer device. Due to the fact that the position of the projections is known at all times, an accurately determined position of the accelerated products is obtained in this way and shifts of the products which have occurred during acceleration are compensated for.

  • Patent number: 5996840
Abstract: A vending machine suitable for use for vending newspapers and the like, has an enclosure in which there is a magazine for retaining a stack of newspapers, and near the magazine is a chute at the lower end of which is a tray accessible to a customer seeking to purchase one of the items in the machine. A moveable inner arm with a pair of jaws at one end thereof is moveable from a first position to a second position. In one of the two positions the jaws are over the chute such that an item held in the jaws can be released and dropped through the chute. In the other of the two positions, the jaws are against an exposed face of a top item or an end item in the magazine. The inner arm is pivotally mounted on a shaft which extends through the enclosure and connects to a second arm on the exterior of the machine, such that movement of the inner arm may be controlled by moving the exterior arm. The movement of the jaws is controllable by an actuating lever arm on the handle at the end of the exterior arm.

  • Patent number: 5996771
Abstract: A high speed shuttle conveyor includes two motor-driven belts for moving two carriages forwardly to rapidly propel an article conveyor from a starting position to an ending position. The belt movements are reversed to return the carriages to the starting position. Each carriage has a retractable pusher element for imparting forward movement to the article conveyor, and a retractable retention element for preventing the article conveyor from moving forwardly at a faster speed than the pusher element. When each carriage reaches the limit of its forward stroke the retention elements exert snubber actions on the carrier; the carrier is safely decelerated to a motionless condition and released.
