Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatuses for content deliver, buffer management and synchronization are described herein. Content being played back on a playback platform is analyzed and based on the analysis, asynchronous playback of the content may be determined. A source buffer flush may be performed to correct the asynchronous playback. After the source buffer flush is performed, content segments may be written to the source buffer so that playback of the content on the playback platform resumes with synchronized audio and video.

Abstract: A method for adaptive streaming of media content with bitrate switching is described, wherein the media content comprising a plurality of consecutive media segments. The method comprising, at a media streaming server: transmitting a segment of the media content encoded in a first coding mode having a first bitrate; receiving an indication for a coding mode switch to a second coding mode having a second bitrate and in response transmitting a transition segment for transitioning between the first coding mode and the second coding mode; and transmitting another segment of the media content encoded in the second coding mode.

Abstract: A channel hiatus correction method for an HDMI device is provided. A recovery code from scrambled data of the stream is obtained. A liner feedback shift register (LFSR) value of channels of the HDMI port is obtained based on the recovery code and the scrambled data of the stream. The stream is de-scrambled according to the LFSR value of the channels of the HDMI port. Video data is displayed according to the de-scrambled stream.

Abstract: A novel, pervasive approach to disseminating live streaming content combines secure distributed systems, WiFi multicast, erasure coding, source coding and opportunistic offloading using hyperlocal mobile edge clouds. The solution disclosed to the technical problem of disseminating live streaming content without requiring a substantial equipment, planning and deployment of appropriate network infrastructure points offers an 11 fold reduction on the infrastructural WiFi bandwidth usage without having to modify any existing software or firmware stacks while ensuring stream integrity, authorization and authentication.

Abstract: The present disclosure includes adjusting the QoE measurement obtained from a testing Content Delivery Network (CDN) entity to reflect accurately the QoE that would have been obtained from a reference video source from a content provider. A method includes performing a Quality of Experience, QoE, measurement from a first content source and adjusting the QoE measurement to reflect an estimate of a QoE measurement to a second content source. In this manner, it is possible to perform QoE measurements for an Over-the-Top, OTT, content provider without violating user policies that prohibit repeated requests.

Abstract: High frame rate image data having backward compatibility is favorably transmitted. Image data of each picture of a base layer included in a base stream sent from a transmission side has been subjected to a mixing process in a linear space or a non-linear space. On a reception side, the inverse mixing process can be performed appropriately by performing in a corresponding space on the basis of processing space information indicating whether or not the mixing process is performed in the linear space or the non-linear space.

Abstract: A nonvolatile memory is coupled to a processor in a set top box. On the timing sequence set within the system, set top box data is transferred from the processor to the nonvolatile memory. Set top box system data includes user data and set top box specific data. The current data is maintained in the nonvolatile memory. The system data can be transferred to second memory by a wireless connection even when the set top box is not coupled to a power supply. The system data can then be provided from the second memory to any selected device, computer or location, such as another set top box, a diagnostic tool, a repair facility or other selected location.

Abstract: Systems and methods are presented herein for selectively preventing display of brand and business identifiers in content that is considered offensive, objectionable, disturbing, and/or unsettling, to prevent an unintended association by viewers of the content between the content and the brand or business. A request to display media content, comprising at least one frame with objectionable subject matter, is received. In response to determining the at least one frame comprises objectionable subject matter, a determination is made as to whether an entity identifier is visible in the at least one frame. In response to determining at least one entity identifier is visible in the at least one frame, a first context of the objectionable subject matter and a second context of the entity identifier are determined. The first context is compared to the second context and, based on the comparing, a masking action is determined to be required for the entity identifier.

Abstract: A system and method for automatically analyzing and managing a media huh software update. The system and method each utilize available media hub system and diagnostic information to aid in the analysis and installation of a software update. If the installation of the update is determined to require memory capacity in excess of what is currently available within the media hub, an archive and off-loading process is automatically initiated to free the required memory space during the installation process. Any off-loaded information and/or applications are then restored after the installation is complete.

Abstract: Methods and set-top boxes are disclosed for automated error detection. The method includes detecting, on an electronic device, a display device connected to the electronic device via a cable; identifying, on the electronic device, a type of display device connected to the electronic device via the cable; classifying, on the electronic device, the type of display device connected to the electronic device via the cable as one of a specific television model or a regular television model; and executing, on the electronic device, a fix for the specific television model. The method can include detecting, on an electronic device, a HDMI cable-related error from a HDMI transmitter of the electronic device; classifying, on the electronic device, a cause of the HDMI cable-related error from the HDMI transmitter; and communicating, by the electronic device, a recommendation to a user to remedy the HDMI cable-related error detected by the HDMI transmitter.

Abstract: Methods, apparatus, systems and articles of manufacture (e.g., physical storage media) to credit commercial broadcasts are disclosed. Example commercial crediting apparatus disclosed herein compare first identification information and first timing information obtained from a first monitored data feed with second identification information and second timing information in a second monitored data feed to identify a first final distributor code represented in the second monitoring data feed, the first identification information and the first timing information corresponding to a first commercial represented in the first monitored data feed. Disclosed example apparatus also access data that maps a first original distributor code to the first final distributor code, identify the first commercial in lineup data based on the first original distributor code, and adjust, based on a duration of the first commercial, a duration obtained for a first media program listed in the lineup data.

Abstract: Various embodiments disclosed herein provide for a caller identification (ID) method and system that can provide caller ID information to display on devices other than the wireless equipment device that is receiving the phone call. This can include televisions and other streaming devices associated with the user receiving the phone call. The mobile wireless network associated with the user's wireless user equipment can determine whether the user has an additional device on which caller ID is to be displayed, and then identify a media server associated with the additional device. Once identified, the mobile wireless network can provide the media server with the caller ID information so that it can be displayed on the television or other streaming device.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and media for presenting media content in response to a channel change request are provided. In some implementations, methods for presenting media content in response to a channel change request are provided, the methods comprising: causing media content provided on a first channel to be presented in a first display area on a first screen; receiving, at a hardware processor, a request to switch to a second channel; in response to receiving the request to switch to the second channel, causing thumbnail content corresponding to the second channel to be presented in the first display area; determining whether media content provided on the second channel is ready for presentation; and in response to determining that the media content provided on the second channel is ready for presentation, causing the media content provided on the second channel to be presented in the first display area.

Abstract: A computerized system for targeted ad insertion receives a program content stream and detects images in the content stream. The system recognizes at least one visual object within the images and matches the recognized visual object to an advertisement that correlates with the recognized visual object. The system may then select an advertisement that advertises, correlates to, is directed to or is otherwise relevant to products or services falling under the theme, topic, category of interest and/or relevant viewer demographic and inserts an identifier of the matched advertisement at an insertion point into the program content stream. This enables playback of the matched advertisement during playback of the program content stream at a time that correlates to the insertion point into the program content stream of the identifier of the matched advertisement.

Abstract: A system can be utilized to determine media clips for media content based on a comparison between subtitles of the media content and information associated with a third-party system. The comparisons can be utilized to identify subtitles based on the comparison and determine the media clips based on portions of the media content associated with the identified subtitles. A smoothing algorithm can be applied to the media clips to modify start times and end times of the media clips. The system can cause the media clips or the corresponding media content to be output by an external device.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed including techniques for rendering a 360-degree media content. Techniques disclosed include receiving a 360-degree media content and associated metadata that include a classification of a first spatial region from the received content. Techniques disclosed further include determining that a detected user movement is associated with a rendering of the first spatial region and determining whether the classification associated with the first spatial region complies with a stored user preference. If the classification violates the user preference, a path for gradually shifting the content rendering from a currently rendered spatial region to a spatial region that complies with the user preference is determined, and the received content is rendered according to the determined path.
