  • Patent number: 9077750
Abstract: A forum service that is hosted by a server in an enterprise service bus receives a message from a client, the message being directed to a service in the enterprise service bus. The forum service acts as a message transport in the enterprise service bus. A thread is generated in a forum managed by the forum service for communications between the client and the service. The message is stored in the thread. The service is notified of the message, wherein the service to receive the message, process the message and post a response message to the thread.

  • Patent number: 9037685
Abstract: A system (and method) discloses migrating data of a first client device to a second client device. A second client device transmits configuration information of the second client device to a remote server. The remote server compares this data to data from the first client device that was previously sent to the remote server from the first client device. The remote server prepares data that is in a format that is compatible with hardware or software configuration of the second client device and that corresponds to the data from the first client device. Thereafter, the remote server transmits this data to the second client device, which uses it to initialize (e.g., restore or reinitialize) the second client device.

  • Patent number: 8898284
Abstract: A method for continually controlling the collective behavior of a set of computing devices in a distributed data processing system. A gateway node disseminates a specification request comprising a set of parameters to a set of computing devices. The gateway node may be unaware of the number and identity of individual computing devices. Each computing node receiving the request determines whether its attributes satisfy the predicates expressed in the specification request. If so, the node processes the parameters in the specification request and modifies its own behavior based on the values in the parameters of the specification request. Subsequently, the gateway node may also observe the quality of information (QoI) values communicated from the set of computing devices. The gateway node iteratively modifies the parameters disseminated in subsequent specification requests based on a divergence between a computed quality of information value and a desired quality of information value.

  • Patent number: 8886831
Abstract: A method and apparatus that promote expedited fast link failover decisions by and end station with redundant multilayer switching paths to a network are disclosed. In response to detecting a change in connectivity with an upstream link to a network, an upstream switch may send a notification to an intermediate switch with a downstream link to the end station. In response to the notification, the intermediate switch may disable (“bring down”) the downstream link to the end station. Bringing the downstream link down in this manner may cause the end station to switch (“failover”) to a different downstream link, for example, allowing the end station to establish connectivity to the network via a redundant path.

  • Patent number: 8854463
Abstract: An obstacle detecting unit detects whether an obstacle exists in an area surrounding a vehicle in the direction a camera installed on the vehicle is pointed. If the obstacle is determined to have a portion at a predetermined height above a road surface with which the vehicle may make initial contact when the vehicle moves toward the obstacle, a virtual projection surface is set to the height of the predicted contact portion and viewpoint conversion processing is performed so as to project pixels of an image captured by the camera onto the virtual projection plane. In this way, the height of the projection plane and the height of the predicted contact portion match each other and the distance between the predicted contact portion and the vehicle is accurately expressed on a bird's-eye view image resulting from the viewpoint conversion.

  • Patent number: 8832273
Abstract: Procedures and systems may be used for assigning data partitions to data-processing host computers, for example, to initially assign data partitions at the outset of a large data-processing job or during failover measures taken in response to a failed host in a share-nothing database management system (SN-DBMS). In one implementation, a method of managing exclusive access to a data partition within a database system assesses a first host and a second host that have exclusive access to a first and second data partition, respectively, within a database system. The method assigns exclusive access of the data partition to one of the first and second hosts based on factors that may include the processing powers of first and second the hosts, and on processing requirements (such as data quantity and data criticalness) for data on the first and second data partitions.

  • Patent number: 8832173
Abstract: In one embodiment the present invention includes a computer implemented system and method of multithreaded processing on multiple servers. Jobs may be received in a jobs table for execution. Each of a plurality of servers may associate a thread for executing a particular job type. As a job is received in the job table, the associated thread on each server may access the jobs table and pick up the job if the job type for the job is associated with the thread. Jobs may include sequential and parallel tasks to be performed. Sequential job tasks may be performed by one associated thread on one server, while parallel job tasks may be performed by each associated thread on each server. In one embodiment, a metadata table is used to coordinate multithreaded processing across multiple servers.

  • Patent number: 8803975
Abstract: A method of identifying an object captured in a video image in a multi-camera video surveillance system is disclosed. Sets of identifying information are stored in profiles, each profile being associated with one object. The disclosed method of identifying an object includes comparing identifying information extracted from images captured by the video surveillance system to one or more stored profiles. A confidence score is calculated for each comparison and used to determine a best match between the extracted set of identifying information and an object. In one embodiment, the method is used as part of a facial recognition system incorporated into a video surveillance system.

  • Patent number: 8799515
Abstract: A network device implements an SSL VPN gateway for client devices. The network device may receive a script destined for a client device. The script may include at least one later binding uniform resource locator (URL)-based link entity. The network device may rewrite the script to include additional script associated with the later binding URL-based link entity. The additional script is configured to execute at the client device to rewrite the later binding URL-based link entity with substitute links that refer to the network device. In this manner, the network device allows the external client devices to access back-end servers in a proprietary network without requiring the installation of custom software on the client devices.

  • Patent number: 8793303
Abstract: A media server in a home entertainment network coordinates with a media receiver connected with the network to provide a media representation with a combined user interface on an attached display device. The media server receives compositing information from the media receiver over the network regarding the placemement of UI components generated by the media receiver. In response, the media server may adjust the positioning of graphics, media control information, metadata, media presentation windows, and other UI components for presentation by the media receiver such that the UI components generated by the media server do not interfere with the UI generated by the media receiver when rendered to the display device. Alternately, the media receiver may adjust the position of UI components such that the UI components generated by the media receiver do not interfere with the UI generated by the media server upon presentation.
