Abstract: A method, program, and system for checking the availability of goods and services by means of the Internet are provided. The invention comprises compiling a customer profile, which may include information related to business affiliation as well as personal preferences. The customer uses a general search engine to submit a query regarding a desired good or service, and the search engine returns a list of suppliers that satisfy the search generic criteria. Special software on the client machine then sends more detailed queries, along with the customer profile, directly to certain suppliers selected from the list. These suppliers then return information, which corresponds to the customer profile. This information may include availability of specific accommodations, special discounts, as well as exclusive goods or services not offered to the general public.

Abstract: A software system efficiently procures operating resources within an enterprise. A requisition record generating module generates a requisition record for a requisition. The requisition record indicates at least an operating resource that a requestor desires to purchase. The requisition record generating module generates the requisition record responsive to a combination of input by a requestor and operating resource information in an operating resource information database. An approval path determining module. responsive to the requisition record and to approval rules in an approval rules database, determines an approval path for the requisition record, among various ones of a plurality of possible approvers, required to approve the requisition record. An approval path handling module guides the requisition record along the determined approval path, and the approval path handling module generates a global approval indication in response to the requisition record successfully traversing the approval path.

Abstract: A method is disclosed for allocating a portfolio investment among a population of securities held in an investment portfolio, wherein each security of the population of securities is issued by a company of a plurality of companies, and each security has at least one corresponding data element. The method includes the steps of assigning each security to a corresponding industry group, summing the industry total of each of the plurality of industry groups to provide the portfolio investment. One investment portion of the portfolio investment is distributed to at least one or more of the plurality of industry groups. The investment portion of the corresponding industry group is equal to a proportion of the industry total of the corresponding industry group to the portfolio investment. The investment portion may be distributed among a selected one or more of the securities of the corresponding industry group.

Abstract: A system and method for procuring non-production commodities for use by employees of a commercial enterprise includes associating the employee with a user profile comprising information relating a status of the employee within the enterprise, automatically generating a requisition for the employee indicating a desired commodity and quantity thereof, and, utilizing the user profile information and the desired commodity to enable employee searching of specific catalogs provided in a database storage device for indication of the desired commodity in a requisition. The system and method further provides for the automatic generation of a purchase order based on the requisition, the forwarding of the purchase order to the vendor for processing the order without a third party intervenor, and provides a mechanism for receiving vendor purchase order acknowledgments and approving vendor initiated changes to the purchase order without third party intervention.

Abstract: An automated print order system for institutional business cards and stationery products generally comprises a requestor interface for entry of a distributed user's print order and a processor interface for fulfillment of the user's print order. The requestor interface is adapted to enable the user to select a company tailored product according to a predeterminable profile and the processor interface is adapted to directly generate a pre-press product automatically incorporating the predeterminable profile into the tailored product. The pre-press product of the preferred embodiment of the present invention comprises a direct-to-plate command set or a printing plate generated therefrom.

Abstract: A shopping assistance method and service system is provided in which a shopper captures information about an item of interest (90) and sends it over a mobile radio infrastructure (10) to a service system (40). At the service system, the information is processed to identify at least the type of item of interest. A determination is also made of a location associated with the information, this location will generally be that of the store (92) where the shopper captured the information, but could also be the shopper's home location. The service system next carries out a specific task (72) relating to the identified item (90), such as obtaining comparative prices, and then provides a report back to the shopper, the contents and/or organisation of the report taking account of the location previously determined as being associated with the information.

Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention provides systems and methods, which allow a more efficient shopping experience. A cascading commerce menu provides access to a plurality of product, service, and/or content categories. In one embodiment, the cascading commerce menu is stored on a client computer, thereby providing quick access to the menu.

Abstract: The disclosed invention is a system and a method utilizing a web-based interactive database to automate the process for managing internal components of a plant. The system captures all essential information and provides on-line up-to-date information upon request. The system provides valuable information to a customer to analyze the plant specific problem and offers inspection methods, mitigation methods and processes to resolve the problem.

Abstract: The present invention provides a software facility for identifying the items most relevant to a current query based on items selected in connection with similar queries. In preferred embodiments of the invention, the facility receives a query specifying one or more query terms. In response, the facility generates a query result identifying a plurality of items that satisfy the query. The facility then produces a ranking value for at least a portion of the item identified in the query result by combining the relative frequencies with which users selected that item from the query results generated from queries specifying each of the terms specified by the query. The facility identifies as most relevant those items having the highest ranking values.

Abstract: Settlement systems and methods are provided wherein a buyer takes possession of a product at a retailer. In one embodiment, a purchasing system arranges through a communication network for a buyer to purchase a product from a seller at a first price. The purchasing system also arranges for the buyer to take possession of the product at a retailer that offers the product for sale at a second price. Payment of an amount based on the first price is received from the buyer, and the purchasing system arranges for the retailer to receive payment of an amount based on a settlement price in exchange for providing the product to the buyer.

Abstract: Using a preset, temporary ID, a user accesses an on-line shop where he is not registered. When the user buys a commodity, the on-line shop sends order data to a money gate. In response to a request from the money gate, a mall-operating company where the user is registered sends the money gate information necessary for settlement such as a credit number. The money gate generates final order data by combining the order data and the information necessary for settlement. Settlement processing with a card company is performed by using the final order data.

Abstract: A method, system, article of manufacture, and propagated signal which provides an easy and flexible way for consumers to print digital photographs received and processed from a variety of different sources and a variety of different ways. Image information, which represents a photographic image, is received from several different sources, order information is received from an external network, the order is processed based on the digital image and the order information, and the photographic images are then output or uploaded in order to produce a photographic print or merchandise with an image printed thereon. The ordering of products is also improved by maintaining the images to be uploaded in a local memory until the order is complete.

Abstract: An effective personnel valuation program permits an improved appropriateness valuation result to be obtained by adjusting deviation of valuation by individual valuators from a standard. Valuators at posts able to perform appropriate valuation are set as reference data valuators. Initial valuation data produced by valuators in a valuator group other than the reference data valuators are adjusted such that its mean data is identical with the mean data of the valuation data produced by the reference data valuators with the mean data and the standard deviation of the valuation data by the reference data valuators as references. Also, standard deviation fluctuations of the valuation data are adjusted such that the standard deviation is identical with the standard deviation of the valuation data produced by the reference data valuators.

Abstract: A method in a computer system for coordinating the delivery a gift given by a gift giver to a recipient when the gift giver did not provide sufficient delivery information. The gift delivery system initially receives an order from the gift giver. The order identifies a gift to be delivered to the recipient and has contact information describing the recipient. The gift delivery system stores the received order in an order database along with an order tracking number. The gift delivery system then determines whether sufficient delivery information has been provided by the recipient. If the delivery information is not sufficient, the gift delivery system sends a communications to the recipient based on the contact information. The communications requests delivery information for the gift. The communications preferably includes the order tracking number so that the recipient can include the order tracking number in a response to the communications.

Abstract: The invention provides a system and method for determining the winner or winners of an on-line auction accepting proxy bids. Proxy bids are bids that do not have a bid price, but instead have ceiling price that indicates the highest price a bidder is willing to bid for goods. The system and method according to the invention are able to sort the bids from highest to lowest and determine a winner or winners depending on the amount of goods being offered for sale. The system then generates a winning bid price by determining the lowest bid required to win the auction. The winning bidder or bidders pay this winning bid price.

Abstract: This computer-based Internet ticket auctioning method preregisters potential bidders and advises them that all bids are conditional offers to purchase tickets, and therefore cannot be lowered or canceled at will. The auction's organizer programs the computer that runs the auction with dates and locations of various events, and with auditoria layout and locations of seats to be auctioned. Each registered customer can view the layout of a particular auditorium and submit a bid for one or more seats. The bidder specifies whether a partially filled order and noncontiguous seat assignments are acceptable. The bidder is also provided with an option to engage a “proxy bid” that will increase the bid amount up to a limit set by the bidder, in order to ensure purchase of tickets. Each customer can also choose to bypass the auction process entirely, by submitting a purchase order at a high, preset price. This preset price is automatically accepted and purchase of tickets is guaranteed.

Abstract: A computer system and method that provides one or more visualizations to one or more users of a network application. The computer executes a sessionization process that receives one or more Web server logs from one or more online stores, and generates one session table for each session found from requests recorded in Web server logs. A shopping step finder process then receives one or more session tables and generates one micro-conversion table for each given session table. Finally, a visualization process receives one or more of the micro-conversion tables and generates one or more micro-conversion visualizations of one or more micro-conversions.

Abstract: One or more embodiments of the invention utilize a receiver as a terminal to enable commercial transactions to take place that may or may not be coupled with programming that is being broadcast and to provide customers with the option of having their pay-TV bills charged directly to a credit card. The pay-TV provider could allow the customer to activate their pay-TV systems, with the programming package of their choice, without having to call the pay-TV customer service. Utilizing the fact that receivers may have built in modems that are connected to phone lines, connections can be made through that phone line to initiate, transfer, and purchase services and merchandise. If the receiver can successfully establish a secure connection with the pay-TV service provider, vendor, or credit card provider and the billing information is successfully transferred, then the merchandise can be shipped or the appropriate signals can be sent to the receiver to activate the service that the customer has selected.

Abstract: A system of ordering and delivering merchandise by accepting order of merchandise from any customer through a home page or a virtual store concerning sales of merchandise and constructed on a network by a sales merchant and through the network and delivering the ordered merchandise to a delivery destination designated by the customer on the basis of map information. A map having a dealer of a neighborhood of the delivery destination is retrieved on the basis of the address information of the customer in response to customer's selection of the dealer as a delivery destination when order of the merchandise is accepted from the customer. The dealer is determined as a delivery destination of the merchandise by the customer while the retrieved map is displayed on the home page or the virtual store.
