  • Patent number: 10270890
Abstract: A wireless station of a wireless network generates a single layer-2 frame containing multiple layer-3 packets in its payload. Each of the multiple layer-3 packets is destined to a corresponding different destination. The wireless station transmits the layer-2 frame to an access point (AP) of the wireless network. The AP receives the layer-2 frame, disassembles the payload into individual layer-3 packets, and transmits each of the individual layer-3 packets separately towards the corresponding destinations. In an embodiment, the wireless network is according to IEEE 802.11 standards, each layer-3 packet is an IP packet, and the layer-2 frame is a MAC frame.

  • Patent number: 10158463
Abstract: A method and system to manage coordinated transmission of data in a wireless communication system. When a serving base station receives data of a particular class for transmission to a user equipment device (UE), the serving base station transmits the received data to the UE and sends a proper subset of the received data to a neighboring base station for the neighboring base station to also transmit to the UE optimally concurrently with the serving base station's transmission of the proper subset. To help comply with a policy in place at the neighboring base station, the serving base station decides how much of the received data to send to the neighboring base station as the proper subset by (i) determining what scheduling weight the neighboring base station is set to apply for data of the particular class and (ii) applying that determined scheduling weight to the received data.

  • Patent number: 9955387
Abstract: A method of managing modulation for transmission of data in anticipation of handover. When a source base station is serving a UE and determines that the UE is going to hand over to a target base station, the source base station automatically transitions to transmit data to the UE with a low-order MCS selected without regard to CQIs reported by the UE, or at least to apply an MCS corresponding with a CQI lower than that reported by the UE. By applying a low-order MCS to transmit data to the UE, the source base station may increase the likelihood that the data will arrive successfully at the UE, as the low-order MCS may be more tolerant to noise than higher-order MCSs.

  • Patent number: 9681325
Abstract: Channel and interference measurement in long term evolution (LTE)/LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) networks including unlicensed spectrum is discussed in which a user equipment (UE) detects a reference signal from a serving base station over a carrier of a shared spectrum for measurement. The reference signal may be a channel usage beacon signal (CUBS) transmitted by the serving base station prior to transmission or may be a specific channel state information (CSI) reference signal transmitted in the first subframe of a transmission frame. The UE generates a fast CSI feedback report based on the measured reference signal and transmits it to the serving base station. The fast CSI feedback report is received quickly enough by the serving base station such that the base station may apply the CSI feedback to additional transmissions in subsequent subframes within the same transmission frame.

  • Patent number: 9503285
Abstract: Various aspects disclosed are directed to improvements to channel estimation through more efficient cancelation of neighboring common reference signals (CRS). Cancelation of CRS from other cells allows the user equipment (UE) a better opportunity for accurately detecting the reference signal of the current cell. Alternative aspects have a recursive element that uses previous estimates as the basis for the current channel estimate. The various aspects of the present disclosure generally have two alternative embodiments: (1) initializing the channel estimation for all cells with a previous channel estimate and cancellation of reference signals of non-target cells to accurately update channel estimate of the target cell; and (2) initializing the channel estimate for all cells with a previous channel estimate and cancelation of reference signals of all cells to accurately estimate residual channel estimate of the target cell and update its channel estimate.

  • Patent number: 8588086
Abstract: Reverse link data rate indications in wireless communication systems are defined with low identification overhead. Existence of a pilot signal is leveraged in order to reduce the overhead for identifying and selecting the reverse link data rate. At least two distinguishable pilot signals are defined, in which, based on the particular pilot signal present in the transmitted frame, at least one rate set from the multiple available rate sets can be determined. Reverse rate information in the transmitted frame is then used to identify which specific data rate within the determined rate set is used. Based on the identified data rate, the receiver may then decode the payload data in the transmitted frame.

  • Patent number: 8542579
Abstract: User cooperation in wireless networks implemented on the Network Protocol layer level attains a higher stable throughput and improved transmission delay. The cooperation is designed between a set of source user nodes transmitting to a common destination, where users with channels providing a higher successful delivery probability, in addition to their own traffic, relay packets of other source users whose transmissions to the destination fails. Each source user node is provided with an ample queue buffer having capacity to accumulate packets inadvertently received from other users in the system in addition to its own packets. Ranking mechanism facilitates in determining the “quality” of wireless channels, and the Acknowledgement mechanism facilitates in coordination of the transmissions in the system. The nodes exchange information on the queues status, and decision is made by a scheduling controller on the priority of transmission.

  • Patent number: 8363535
Abstract: A cancellation system is disclosed for processing incoming and outgoing signals in a transform domain to create a cancellation signal for reducing or removing unwanted interference. Data is ordered based on Good-Thomas indexing into a two dimensional array in a buffer. The two dimensional array may have lr rows and lw columns. From the buffer, the columns of data undergo a Winograd small transform. The rows of data undergo a Cooley-Tukey operation to complete the transform operation into the frequency domain. Multipliers scale the transformed data to generate a cancellation signal in the frequency domain. Inverse (Cooley-Tukey) and Winograd transforms perform inverse processing on the cancellation signal to return the cancellation signal or data to the time domain. Re-ordering the data and combination of the cancellation signal or data with incoming or outgoing signals achieve interference cancellation.

  • Patent number: 8089909
Abstract: Provided is a method of transmitting/receiving data in a sensor node for reducing overhearing of sensor nodes, and a sensor network which implements the method. A sender node having transmission data from among a plurality of nodes which perform a low power listening (LPL) operation in an asynchronous manner at predetermined time intervals, generates a long preamble including short preambles, each having information including a destination address of the transmission data, a remainder of the long preamble, and a length of the transmission data, and sequentially transmits the second preamble and the transmission data. A receiver node from among the plurality of nodes determines whether a valid signal is sensed during an active state in the LPL operation. If it is determined that the valid signal is sensed, the receiver node receives the short preamble transmitted from the sender node.

  • Patent number: 7626971
Abstract: By separating a function responsible for a control plane and a function responsible for a user plane into physically independent devices, a radio access network system, in which expandability and flexibility of a network is enhanced, is obtained. In the radio access network (RAN) system, the RAN is so designed that a server responsible for the control plane (CPS) and a server responsible for the user plane (UPS) are physically separated from each other. In response to an external request, a logical connection is set between the CPS and the UPS. For identification of the logical connection, mapping between a mobile unit or a radio bearer and the logical connection is managed using a logical connection ID. Thus, the CPS and UPS can independently be added or removed in a system configuration, thus enhancing the scalability of a mobile communication system.
