  • Patent number: 8950855
Abstract: An inkjet printer and a method of operating an inkjet printer provide a luminescent background for facilitating viewing of indicia printed on porous media in no-light or low-light conditions. The printer and method apply a first enhancement material to a surface of porous media to which ink has been applied to form indicia and a second enhancement material to a back side of porous media. The two enhancement materials combine through the porous media to provide a luminescent background for the indicia printed on the media. The two surfaces of the porous media can be covered with laminating material to protect the enhancement materials.

  • Patent number: 8936360
Abstract: A nozzle surface (nozzle plate) of a printing head which ejects UV-curable ink from a nozzle is tilted with a predetermined inclination angle ? with respect to the recording surface of a recording sheet so as to face the opposite side to an ultraviolet irradiator. In this manner, it is difficult for the ultraviolet light which is radiated from the ultraviolet irradiator, and is reflected on the recording sheet to input to the nozzle plate, and it is possible to prevent ink in the nozzle from being thickened, or being cured due to the ultraviolet light.

  • Patent number: 8931865
Abstract: A printing system includes a plurality of imaging systems for capturing images of a receiver medium. An illumination system illuminates the receiver medium with an illumination pattern, thereby providing a reflected illumination pattern and a transmitted illumination pattern. A first imaging system is positioned to capture a first image of a first side of the receiver medium including the reflected illumination pattern, and a second imaging system is positioned to capture a second image of an opposing second side of the receiver medium including the transmitted illumination pattern. The first and second images are analyzed to determine a relative position of the reflected illumination pattern in the first image and the transmitted illumination pattern in the second image. Imaging system alignment parameters for use in aligning images captured with the first and second imaging systems are determined responsive to the determined relative position.

  • Patent number: 8894174
Abstract: In one example, a first swath is caused to be printed by a print unit on a media. The media is advanced with respect to the print unit. For a nominal second swath to be printed to beneath and adjacent to the first swath, a plurality of adjustment regions along the width of the nominal second swath are determined in accordance with a profile of non-constant advance errors for the media. An adjusted second swath is formed by, for each of the regions, adjusting the height of the nominal second swath in memory based on the determined amount of advancement error for the region. The print unit is caused to print the adjusted second swath on the media.

  • Patent number: 8876245
Abstract: Inkjet droplets having a vaporizable carrier fluid are jetted from a printhead according to image data. A heated condensation shield between the printhead and a target area at which the printhead directs drops protects against condensation of vaporized carrier fluid and creates heat. A heat shield between the printhead and a support structure for the printhead protects the printhead and support structure from heat and condensation. A heated zone exists between the heat shield and the condensation shield. The condensation shield is heated to a temperature above a condensation temperature of vaporized carrier fluid in the second region so that ink droplets that pass through the heated zone are heated in a manner that causes ink droplets having a first concentration to spread when printed onto a paper in the target area as if the ink droplets had a higher concentration of at least one percent.
